    Newcomer to RC here, and I'm days away from painting a Tamiya body. Already, within the first few minutes, you taught me something that I hadn't seen other videos discuss, so props.

    Found some very helpful tips. New to using liquid mask so didn’t realize the thicker coating would help better. Also love the clean cut lines with the razor knife. Things to try out on my next body paint

      @quietrc i started out with liquid mask and was having trouble. I switched to Tamiya tape and now have it about 90% complete except for white backing. Overall pretty good 1st time but my OCD has me noticing things here & there

    In my opinion Kyosho Fazer MK line has the best body's around hands down......Then Tamiya. Best body's I've seen in a long time. If I could I would get a line of Kyosho body's.

    • @quietrc
      @quietrc  Год назад +1

      The Kyosho ones are almost too good. I think they're better suited for drift cars since those don't get as destroyed as touring car racing.

    I like the liquid mask idea. If not using liquid mask how do you feel about using flat clear to seal masking tape lines before spraying the first color on the car. My understanding is it seals the tapes edges and if it did bleed it cannot be seen.

    • @quietrc
      @quietrc  3 месяца назад +1

      Yes! You can do that. It only needs a very light coat to achieve it. I’ve used this method before.

  • @Coilboii

    thanks for the video, i tried doing liquid mask yesterday and put 5 coats and did it to thin.

    • @quietrc
      @quietrc  Год назад +1

      Yeah, I don’t think you need to be shy on each coat. No real downside.

    Have you ever had issues with the Tamiya PS paints reacting with the liquid mask? I’m curious as it says on the bittydesigns not to use with spray cans but you look like you’ve had great results using the PS sprays and I’d like to follow your steps and do the same, cheers 🍻

    • @quietrc
      @quietrc  Год назад +1

      Stick to the light coats. You should be safe. I’ve never had issues with the Tamiya PS paints and the liquid mask. Good luck!

      Awesome! Thanks for the reply, it doesn’t specifically say on their website that it’s Tamiya paints they aren’t compatible with just says “spray paints” in general but good to know, thanks!

    • @quietrc
      @quietrc  11 месяцев назад

      If you’re asking what I cleaned it with, that was just water with a very tiny bit (like a couple drops in several cups of water) of dish soap.

    This was a very well put together tutorial. I’ve honestly always dreaded the painting part of the hobby. I simply am not very good at it. However, after watching what you just put together here, I am confident I can up my game significantly. There was a lot I was doing wrong, or simply didn’t even know. It’s funny, I am a luthier and woodworker, professionally, (amongst other fine skills…like being a watchmaker) and for some reason this particular skill has eluded me. I thrive on the minutiae. I just need to know what that is in this case, and now I do.
    Is it correct that you are up in Indy? I am down in Bloomington. I’d love to pick your brain sometime about good places to drive…that’s probably better for a direct message though rather than a public message board on a you tube channel.
    Anyway, thanks for making stuff like this. Makes me being a middle aged man that likes to STILL play with toys feel a lot better about it. Or, as one of my friends has once told me, they’re not toys, but, REFINED, HIGHLY ENGINEERED RACE CARS.
    Kits are the best for the hobby in my opinion.

    Ever tried Liquitex for the masking? Curious if it's the same product only cheaper..thanks

    • @quietrc
      @quietrc  Год назад +1

      I've never used Liquitex. However, the BittyDesign liquid mask is water-based vs. the Liquitex being latex based. If that matters to you.
      Just comparing the 4oz Liquitex on the Liquitex site and the 16oz BittyDesign on Amain, the BittyDesign is about 1/2 the cost on a per-ounce basis.

    How do you find spraying rattle cans on liquid mask ? I find they react with each other and ruins the liquid mask

    • @quietrc
      @quietrc  Год назад +1

      I have never had an issue with any of the paints I've used ruining the liquid mask. Rattle can or otherwise. I wonder if it is an issue with how thick the liquid mask is? As you can see in the video, I put on a pretty liberal amount!

    Why does proline paint not stick well. Come off super easy will not last long at all

      I have not experienced an issue with ProLine coming off. Not sure what your prep methods are.

    • @rworden96
      @rworden96 Год назад

      Great video ! And I’ve had same issue with proline. Wash the body in warm water and dish soap and then paint. The proline stuff scratches off inside very easy. Say it rubs against a part of car when putting body on/off, it will scratch the paint off with it.
