You're exactly right! "You just don't get to see this stuff sitting in the recliner". I've hiked in the Shinning Rock Wilderness and it's beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
We hiked Shining Creek Path in April, from Shining Rock to the trailhead. I almost slid off the trail to my death in the creek below. Landslides from Fred. There was a sign at the trailhead saying the trail was unpassable and dangerous, but there was no sign on the other end. Glad you guys made it safely!
What a difference a few years makes. Shining Rick was our first backpacking and we had no training or advice on how to do it. You and I shared my 4 man, 14 lb Coleman tent and probably carried 50 lbs apiece for about an 8 mile one nighter. You guys did good and look good doing it. Seems like you might have edited out some whining or wind sucking but I would have as well. Brutal trails up there, steep climbs but always worth it. Great video
After that first backpacking trip to Shinning Rock, I swore I would never backpack again. Almost 20 years later, I am still out on the trail. Glad you liked it.
i just found you guys - watched the 100 mile wilderness first. I live in ME, and have hiked a bunch but not there yet, and still not Katahdin... (SOON!) However, i was wondering how you all navigate hiking in NC/down there with all the snakes!! I did live in TN for a summer while ago, hiked around there a bunch. Saw some bears, but never snakes luckily. Those things terrify me.
Carl has had a rough couple years dealing with an aging parent and some of his own health problems. Hopefully he will get back out on the trail sooner rather than later.
@oldmanhikingclub2310 do me a favor and tell him I miss him. I think you guys make a great team and I don't mean to take anything away from anyone else. all the guys have been really cool. Dwayne

We used to live in Ashevlle and hike all over Shining Rock. Beautiful country.

It was a pretty sketchy trail for sure.
You are right you can't see it from the recliner. Awesome.
Hike On.
Thanks for watching!
