Banter, Injuries and Mistakes - Ceiling Panel Fabrication -- Episode 169
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 июл 2024
- This week we are erasing the last big scar that our boat received from her previous life. Having ceiling panels will bring her interior back from the depths and help her look like a proper yacht.... and a home. Of course we can't get the project done without the typical banter, injuries and mistakes!

Sailing Dauntless family hi from Alberta, Canada ( directly north of Glacier National Park Montana)..
The ceiling panels look absolutely amazing, but I've come to expect that quality of wok from you. That kitchen and salon area are outstanding. It's always such a pleasure to watch you work. The correct materials, tools and knowledge to take on a project of this size and complexity. The new ceiling panels are proof of that. Bonus you are a great family to watch the humor and kidding around are awesome. Cant wait for next week.
Thanks for including us in your journey.
Thank you for watching and the support!

Salon Looking Great almost ready for a Party 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
The panels look great! You have been missed!
15:30 As someone who is prone to making these kinds of mistakes. I have found that a good practice especially in things that you LITERALLY get one shot at is to fully install this onto a piece of scrap plywood or card board or just anything that you can find that matches the surface somewhat to figure out if you have it right before committing to a permanent installation like this. 😅😁
17:40 Another tip for 3d printing is to print stuff like this on an angle even if it means more ugly supports and difficulty printing it'll make the part much more durable making the layer lines on an angle. That way when you are drilling and side loading those teeth the loading force won't be perfectly in line with a layer line and letting it snap off like that. 👍😁
good tip
Yay a new video! What vinyl did you guys use for the ceiling panels?
its the same that the factory uses, it has a felt backing on it. I can't find the invoice for it but I did purchase it locally in Florida.
We have a saying here at our home: "It's not a home improvement project unless somebody's bleeding." And we are always doing home improvement projects. Starting to buy bandages by the gross! Haha! Good job Dauntless crew. It's coming together nicely.
4:09 ... Someone's got a lil bit of an attitude.
That looks amazing guys! Hey, are you planning on attending Annapolis again this year? If so, i would love to meet up and chat about your refit.
Possibly!
Thumbs up on the ceiling panels.
I missed you guys! How is the energy consumption of the Air conditioning units?
Pretty good so far. We will be putting energy meters on and reporting back.
Thanks! I'm sure you both are happy with your daughter's help.
A paper towel and electrical tape my go to for band aid too!
Great video, as always!
We have a Leopard 45 with just Velcro on the ceiling panels… can you share the link for the vendor of the clips? Also, I assume you used Southco locking latches? Was there a specific vendor there you’d recommend?
Love your videos!
Thank you! The clips are from fastmount and yes the latches are from southco but we purchased them from another owner so unfortunately I don’t have a vendor recommendation.
check McMaster Carr part # 4921N11
When does the sailing happen?
When the fixing is done happening 😉
Curious what 3d printer you use and if you have written a blog or post about it and the materials you have found best to use in a marine environment?
I have a Bambu X1 Carbon. I use PLA for most interior and ASA for exterior. Keeping them dry is the key. I may do an episode in the future on it, it is very easy to use the printer, the steep learning curve is 3d modeling software. For that I use Fusion 360, they have a free personal use version.
@@SailingDauntless thank you for your reply
Almost as beautiful as you pretty lady.
Where did you buy the ceiling panel clips / studs? What is the company called that makes them?
Fastmount
Where did you get the clips you used?
various online retailers. Fastmount is the brand
So does sid have a significant other just asking I know a guy !
What no led lighting?
It’s daytime, we put the lights in in a previous episode
Ceiling absolutely looks amazing.
Time to give your video editor a rai$e per episode
I absolutely would not use 3m rattle can adhesive. You should have purchased a gallon of glue from an upholstery supply along with a $18 harbor freight paint gun. With the real upholstery adhesive you can let the adhesive completely set before applying the vinyl to the substrate and they you use a steamer to reactive the adhesive as you work everything into place.
The easy way to make replacement ceiling panels would have been to get the cad drawings of the roof panels from Leopard/Robertson & Cane and cut out new panels in minutes using a cnc router.and a gerber textile cutter to precut the vinyl.
I know this boat WAS wrecked, but that was years ago now. Are you ever going to sail it?
absolutely, when its ready
No more holes in Kim's boat.....OK?
Like to ask. What exactly does an American flag with a red stripe mean? Is that being disrespectful? Just like to know because I support democracy. You have it visible, so I would think you have a reason. Thanks
It represents patriotism and support for firefighters.
The USA is not a democracy it is a Republic
