Dude you have no idea how helpful this is back when I used to live in Reno I did a lot of road biking and more times than I can count I came home with road rash didn’t know how to deal with it and it really really hurts so thank you for this.
Got out of the ER two months ago, and after about 12 bandages failing or sucking, this was my tried and tested method. Glad you posted it so others can see
I still have an obvious road rash scar from when I was 14 (23 now). I was bombing a hill on my longboard, going ~40mph and a pebble jumped out in front of me. I slid for a while on my left side and ended up under a parked car. I had to longboard 2 miles home after that.
I’ve had good luck with clear wound cover film (Tegaderm Transparent Dressing). It lasts about a week, and the bonus is, everyone can see your wound, and you won’t ooze all over your clothes😜👍‼️
Evan thanks for combining your nursing experience and biking, I think that’s a pretty cool combination of your skill set! Love the videos keep ‘em coming.
Dude, this is a seriously awesome niece you could populate in the mountain biking world, having genuine healthcare advice from someone who also loves the sport. If you want to seriously blow up on RUclips, I'd recommend continuing with this! I don't know of a single mountain biker that hasn't been in an accident, nothing usually too serious, but being able to give specific medical advice. Keep it up dude!
I remember in highschool when I had light wounds like that. I was proud to show them off because I didn't want people to think that all I do on my free time was to watch TV or play video games.
agreed, If you want to go over the top I would apply hydrogel with regular cleaning. If it gets infected, then go for ATB. Excesive antibiotics use is a major health issue.
Lol. I got some hectic road rash on a trail about a week and a half ago... Still busy dealing with large scabs exactly where yours are. Will look at something similar. What I do though is use Bepanthen in the first few days, but I must say this looks promising.
As a nurse myself, that's how we did it in our home country, and the result proved it is effective. Though we use different from neosporin. I also did that similar dressing with my bigger motorcycle road rash at around 90kph but without the neosporin, just washed it daily, and it was already dry in less than a week with 0 signs of infection.
I should have seen this short earlier. At the start of this year I had a really bad fall, luckily my head did not experience any injuries(I was not wearing a helmet) but in trade I had a road rash that covered half of my arm. Every night I had to peel of the normal bandage while screaming before I discovered the non stick ones at my local pharmacy.
I had a nasty crash at the last DH race my wife and I were in. No broken bones luckily but tons of road rash all over my left side. Did this everywhere and was healed up in 7 days, no joke! The hip is the worst part lol.
I first real road rash wasn't from mountain biking sadly, I was driving a mini motorcycle and my uncle didn't tell me how to turn, so I let off the clutch, and turned like a mountain bike, got a big road rash and a massive rock was stuck, I just carried the bike home, put some alcohol on it (not like alcohol alcohol) and wrapped it, uncle gave me one of my first beers and I went on again. I didn't know I had a rock stuck inside at the time, but I was playing video games and a rock just fell out. There is still one inside. I never had a big crash, just a couple minor fuck ups. They are pretty cool, in my opinion. Comment if you want me to tell.
This is so true! When I broke my collarbone I got some pretty bad road rash in my shoulder and arm and used something similar and it healed up way faster than my scraped up knee.
This is some pretty good information, just recently I did a huge jump off of a dirt hill and I landed pretty weirdly and my bike slipped out from in front of me and my elbows and knees got road rash real bad, it took forever for it to heal, I wish I knew this before that happened
Ok bro I just crashed and got my whole leg covered in road rash; I was biking on my way home from a park and I wanted to get on the sidewalk so I tried and my mountain bike slipped on gravel and now my left leg feels like the sun rn 😂 loveee the vid ❤
I play baseball and cut up my knee sliding earlier this season now every week I slide and reopen because it never fully heals. I’ll try this tomorrow morning and let you know how it went!
Good work! The day my 10 year old son causally walked into the house (bleeding), cleaned out a wound, bandaged himself, and then jetted back outside into his bike was a good day for this mountain biker dad. :)
Yeah been waiting like three and a half week for mine to fully heal up. Most of it has.. at least it’s not open anymore. Just a spot on my shoulder is red and my elbow is finishing healing up.
I got road rash from my ankle to my knee a couple years back, wiped out on a turn because there was gravel on top of the concrete. Tore up my leg pretty good and have a pretty decent scar on my knee from it
I remember once when I got road rash and I forgot to take my gauze off… my skin grew in the holes a bit and I had to reopen the wound a bit to take it off. Most painful road rash experience yet
Wish I knew this last year. I got bad road rash all on my back and side, was a pain to deal with for the amount of time I had it. Still have some sick scars tho
I just clean it and use some of that Grandma old Mexican recipe and it heals faster. I recently healed from 3. One on the elbow, forearm and side of my leg.
Kept treating my skin damage from boxing with 10% propolis in ethanol tinctures - worked wonders to close off the surface and preventing inflammation. Disadvantage is that yellow coloration for some time . Good luck!
bro i got some road rash all the way down my chest once, it stuck to my blanket every night and i couldn’t walk properly for weeks. i think i would rather break something that go through that again 😂
Actually, this use of antibiotic ointment is entirely appropriate. A friend's husband is just recovering from a medical crisis caused by a severe infection of a bike-caused road rash that went septic on him. Nipping this sort of infection in the bud is precisely what antibiotics are good at. I want to know...where do you get that mesh material??
Dude you have no idea how helpful this is back when I used to live in Reno I did a lot of road biking and more times than I can count I came home with road rash didn’t know how to deal with it and it really really hurts so thank you for this.
It would help but mine heals in like 4 days
Hi
I just clean it and let it breathe. heals really quick.
This is myth. The idea that giving your wound air by way of letting it be open is so stupid my god.
Bro got healing factor 💀
letting it breath is a myth - moist wounds heal quicker.
Same
Wrong. Wet dressing is 100x better than dry.
Cool tip, I’ll definitely get the stuff from the pharmacy so next time i have this type of injury i can use this method for treating it
Got out of the ER two months ago, and after about 12 bandages failing or sucking, this was my tried and tested method. Glad you posted it so others can see
Yeah man the ER just knows generic stuff. I bet it was just a gauze wrap from them

Exactly the same thing happened to me except I had to head back home with not just road rash all over my body but with a fractured wrist
Try coming off a motorbike bike at 60mph. Ended up 60foot down the road and had to push my bike 11 miles home while seriously injured 😂
Well, I saw this about a month too late.
That netting, instead of the bandage tape, is the key component that would have been awesome to have lol
I’ve had good luck with clear wound cover film (Tegaderm Transparent Dressing). It lasts about a week, and the bonus is, everyone can see your wound, and you won’t ooze all over your clothes😜👍‼️
What a life you’ve lived, nursing and bmx!

I just pick off the Scab of mine every day and it takes like a month to heal
Scabs are fun to pick for sure. I don't mind scars. But the worst part about having a scab that long is if you crash again and reopen it
I remember in highschool when I had light wounds like that. I was proud to show them off because I didn't want people to think that all I do on my free time was to watch TV or play video games.
Evan has the skillset everyone needs lol
Exactly what I did today, except mine was on a technical steep mountain bike track. Front wheel over the berm.
As a BMXER i can approve this is very helpful
thank you for this it help me i crashed pretty hard when i was racing BMX
Antibiotics for a rash is a bit overkill in my opinion
agreed, If you want to go over the top I would apply hydrogel with regular cleaning. If it gets infected, then go for ATB. Excesive antibiotics use is a major health issue.
Its not tho
Yup soapy water and tegaderm gives even better results without misuse of antibiotics
@@poppa4352 Have you ever heard of antibiotic resistance..?
@@Bozza36 yes ofc. Idk when I commented on this

I just wash it off and let it dry out lol
Yeah but that’s letting it naturally heal he’s showing how to speed up the process greatly.
yeah after a day or so the pain goes away once you have done it enough
wouldn't it scar?

damn. genuinely good advice.
This is BRILLIANT, thanks - needed it about 6 months’ ago 😂
The main trick is to keep the abrasion moist and covered with vasoline or ointment to prevent a scab from forming.
The non stick gauze is a life saver let me tell ya. Without it everytime you change it out. It’s like waxing your hair off

Him when rubbing in the cream AHHHH FEEL THE BURN!!
Just crashed and got road rash everywhere, deep tears on my leg, rips on both arms and hands. sitting wrapped up right now lol
I wish I knew this after getting road rash on all of my limbs after nose diving a OneWheel at 18 mph on the road
My forearm be lookin like patrick on heels 💅
This is so true! When I broke my collarbone I got some pretty bad road rash in my shoulder and arm and used something similar and it healed up way faster than my scraped up knee.
I had to get one of those when i got my knees opened up and rashed up as a kid. It was a massive wound but it healed in 9 days!
Permeated gauze works even better, the Antibiotic is soaked into the gauze so it sticks to the wound less
Neosporin has never hurt me whatsoever
I've needed this sooooo many times
This is some pretty good information, just recently I did a huge jump off of a dirt hill and I landed pretty weirdly and my bike slipped out from in front of me and my elbows and knees got road rash real bad, it took forever for it to heal, I wish I knew this before that happened
Had to do something similar when my entire right forearm gained a partial thickness burn, used the non adhesive pad on the blister
as a current BMX racer who got into a very very severe wreck with TONSSSSSS of road rash recently, thank you!
As someone who literally just got my first mountain bike, I'm sure this is going to be very helpful for me. Thank you 🙏
I really enjoy the sticky pads!! Lol
Really helpful man thankyouu

Glad you saw this and it crossed over into another sport!
The sleeve reminds me of the hardy brothers on wwe lmao
Nah ice on 🔝

Thats awesome! Great to hear. Nothing is stopping him now! haha
Mine heal in 7 days or less without any kind of treatment. Just let it air out and do its thing. I thought that was normal 😂
Honestly some Eucerin cream would be enough for scraping like that, great suggestion on the jersey tubing though, great stuff
Thanks needed this cus I hit a tree yesterday while riding a black jump line
My wifes gonna be mad when all her fishnets are cut shorter.
I fell off this morning so thanks this might help
Yeah been waiting like three and a half week for mine to fully heal up. Most of it has.. at least it’s not open anymore. Just a spot on my shoulder is red and my elbow is finishing healing up.
Thanks I ride a bike too an e bike it's awsome
If I get it bad enough I'll probably use this but normally I just let air dry and then I freak people out at my work 😂
"I got some road rash"😃😃😄
Dude thank you!
I got road rash from my ankle to my knee a couple years back, wiped out on a turn because there was gravel on top of the concrete. Tore up my leg pretty good and have a pretty decent scar on my knee from it
Nice track
Also if available, power flex should be good too, possibly stretchy tape I’m not sure. Very flexible and bendable
Thank u for that useful hack
Xeroform on top of the Neosporin can help as well, great video and advice !
Battery acid
thanks nurse!
I do bmx to 😊thanks for the tip
Cool! I race bmx right now!
That is my worst fear. Most of the berms around here aren't stable, and I'm always afraid of sliding over the berm. Sketchy.
Yeah man stay safe! Ride to live
Of course this shows up a week after I fully heal from bad road rash
I remember once when I got road rash and I forgot to take my gauze off… my skin grew in the holes a bit and I had to reopen the wound a bit to take it off. Most painful road rash experience yet
The fact that you have to blur a goddamm graze is insane. I have found that Cuticerin or similar acetate weave is great for burns and grazes.
as a bmx racer thanks for the tip
Wish I knew this last year. I got bad road rash all on my back and side, was a pain to deal with for the amount of time I had it. Still have some sick scars tho
As a son of a doctor this is correct✅
Same here buddy I got a road rash 2 days ago and it’s still there
I just clean it and use some of that Grandma old Mexican recipe and it heals faster. I recently healed from 3. One on the elbow, forearm and side of my leg.
Last time I got roadrash I had non stick pads but they still stuck to the blood
I would recommend Polysporin because Neosporin could have the chance to cause it to blister
giga chad: *uses water and continue riding*
Matt and Jeff Hardy Approved
I like the idea of no adhesive.
That's a lot of work for a scratch but it dose look pretty sweet👌
Took that corner like squidly
Let's race
Another tip: always shave your arm and leg jair to heal road rashes faster
Hope to have more nursing tips from you . Looks like it came in handy eh lol
Thanks man!!
Beautiful
Im in bentonville till sunday! Half a mile from coler and was wondering if your gonna be riding around there soon?
I once felt from bike, I had huge part of my hand stripped. It took me 3 months to heal that shit.
Wait til you hear about elbow guards! 😉
can you give advice about broken bone health what to eat for efficient repair process??
Nice chase
Just get the hydro bandaids. They work in jus a couple of days.
I hate going over berms like that. I ended up on top of the bike once and took a pedal the kidney hard!
Kept treating my skin damage from boxing with 10% propolis in ethanol tinctures - worked wonders to close off the surface and preventing inflammation. Disadvantage is that yellow coloration for some time . Good luck!
Propolis is a resin, extracted from bee hives. Bees seem to use it to enclose everything suspicious to them within their hives.
bro i got some road rash all the way down my chest once, it stuck to my blanket every night and i couldn’t walk properly for weeks. i think i would rather break something that go through that again 😂
Yo man is that bentonville? Thats my fav place to ride
I went over the top of a berm too and I had a giant bruise that looked like a bullet wound
I got one too but in the another arm
Do u think u could use those netting things which come on apples sometimes in replacement of the netted stocking 😂
Wait how did u...how did u get that bruise if ur wearing a sweatshirt was it?
