Your videos are always amazing -- easy to understand, very useful, and thorough. I love how you clearly explain things and then point out how to deal with possible hangups. Thank you so much!
You are absolutely brilliant! Thank you for taking the time to create such a thoughtful and helpful video! You have motivated me that I can create the video I want and don't need to spend more money!
Very nice! Can you explain how you got the nice audio? Notice that you are using a Samson mic. Also are you using some kind of audio compression software or hardware. Thanks.
For good sound quality tutorial video by iMovie like yours, please advise me on these: 1. Which Equalizer to select? 2. What % of volume to increase to? 3. What % of reduce background noise?
Usually use RODE NT-USB, but used Samson Q2U for this video. Needed a dynamic mic to block out unwanted air conditioning noise. When you say "volume set up" do you mean the input level I record at?
Mike, I love your stuff and use it all the time. Now that iMovie allows you to do a voice over, would you use the same technique for doing a slide show or would you chose another workflow?
GREAT VIDEO!! May I know what was the point of adding the build in order TWICE using the forward keys - once in normal mode & then again in presentation mode?
Super useful. Great work as usual Michael. I am finding out that by doing this, I speak more naturally; the flow is better but... I speak way too fast, and the speech has more errors. So, scripting, timing, testing needs to improve as well on my side.
First time I have see one of your videos Michael. New Subscriber Here! Great content and very well done video! I am a heavy user of screenflow and keynote for making courses. I have always done the voiceovers by playing presentation full screen while recording in screenflow and talking on the fly. This is a great way to do those more complex presentation voice overs that can't be done in a single shot! Great stuff.
Thanks for the helpful and crystal clear video tutorial! I was wondering if it's possible to show a highlighted cursor while Keynote is recording the presentation? I need to point to the words as my audio is playing.
Dear Michael, HELP! I cannot insert a video clip into KNote, tried all the settings changes the .mp4 to MOV no go. just will not start automatically. Jerzy UK🥰
To avoid the need to redo the whole presentation recording after the slide that needs editing, especially when doing a particularly long video, wouldn't it make sense to create presentation segments, then export them to iMovie and assemble them there?
Hello I need some help. First of all thank you so much for this great video!! It is very clear. I watched your video several times over the course of few months, my first video was great but having problem with the second video editing as it gives me a slightly delayed voice over on top of my voice over. I tried sooo many different things, like duplicating my slide and images trying again, same thing, starting completely different on a new slide, recoding a new voice over, but each slide recording does that double voiceover. Has it happened to you? What should I do, hope you can answer. Thank you!
Can you record this way over multiple slides - ie. one voice recording over several slides, as opposed to one slide with several builds? Or do you have to use the standard way ?
Hi Michael, Thanks a lot for these wonderful videos. These videos are really helpful!! But I am struggling with the audio. I am trying to record a tutorial for a software. My tutorial has some keynote slides, followed by some actions that I perform within that software. I am using Quicktime screen recording to record the screen, and using iMovie to edit these movies. But I don't know how I can use Audacity in this workflow to improve my voice quality. Can you share a video showing the workflow involving Quicktime, Audacity and iMovie to record a tutorial. I love your videos and you are great!! Thanks for sharing this knowledge...
I started recording my course through the document-audio route that you describe in another video on my first 3 slides. I then watched this video and switched to the as it's a big course and I was hitting stumbling blocks recording the other way. My question - can I mix these 2 types of recording when I go to turn it into a movie?
How can you improve the audio in your Keynote recordings? Or should I record in Audio Hijack and drag and drop it in Keynote? I would prefer to use Keynote, because of the editing feature that you can just clip and re-record where you left off again. Any input would be great. Thank you.
This video came out just in time for a project I am working on.My questions is if I do voice over to my slide show and set it to auto, and if I have embedded videos in the slide will these videos open when the slide show gets to them? pretty sure I know your answer but thought I would ask. great job with all your videos, thank you
The videos should play. But I would have to try it out to confirm. Is the plan to play your voice-over automatically, then trigger the videos on the slide manually on-click?
@@MacVideoMagic before I watched your video, I was going to be reading my slide notes and starting the video on-click, But this presentation interested me and I was going to try voice over on a few chapters to see how it went, but I have video in most of my chapters and didn't know how well they would play after the presentation was made into a movie
Just did a quick test using a video and a voice-over set to play automatically. The embedded video played in the exported movie exactly as it did in the recorded slideshow when I triggered it manually on-click. Just make sure you're using the latest version of Keynote. There was a bug in one of the previous versions that prevented embedded videos from playing back in exported movies. I would test a slide or two to see if it works, before going too far down the road with your project. Hope that helps.
hi Michael great video as always. suppose one wanted to edit in their talking head from time to time in the video-a sort of cut scene to give the video another dimension. how might you go about that with the audio all embedded w/in keynote? thnx so much.
@@MacVideoMagic thnx for the reply Michael. that's one option, you're right. though i was thinking more along the lines of screen flow's style. it's for a university lecture/lesson, and i really like the idea of popping in and out of the slideshow to offer more detail for a given idea. i'll be using iMovie and will use the picture in picture effect though am unsure of where/how to use the audio track (whether or not it should come from keynote so i can sync my talking head). it'll take a bit of sorting but i'm sure there's a solution. thnx again.
Thank you, but I'm having trouble advancing the slides to record. The Navigator doesn't respond, and I'm recording on the blank screen that appears before the builds.
abit overwhelming as I am neither a techie nor do I know how to translate your tutorial into my video. I have macbook pro M1 so don't know how different keynote is. Plus I created the video using canva and now need to record and sync the audio file with video. While canva does have audio record feature, I understand you can't do much editing or tweaking to sync 2 files. if you have any words of wisdom I welcome it. also could keynote maybe be not best audio record option for a video from canva?
Mike, I accidentally pressed the wrong button when I went to record audio on my keynote presentation and now when I try to record it only records from the internal mic. It won’t let me use my external mic? I’ve looked everywhere but can’t see how I can get the choice again. Have you got anyway of fixing this? Thanks 🙏
So realistically, you could use Keynote to create brand logo animations? Record the piecing together of different no-background images to make a logo, export as 4:4:4 with alpha channel, and you've done yourself an after effects logo for free?
Yup. You can import graphics with transparency into Keynote from Photoshop, etc. You can even draw vector shapes in Keynote, or use Keynote's built in library of vector shapes as a starting point and edit them. Then there's its Build animations and Magic Move transition. And you can export in 4K. This is why I often refer to Keynote as "After Effects Lite." It's one of the best-kept secrets in video creation. 🙂
It's 2022 and I still can't figure out why Apple didn't add this feature: to record in Keynote through GarageBand audio mixer. I know I can record with the built-in audio recorder but the sound it's not as good as that mixed in Garageband. Does anybody know to figure out this? Thanks a lot!
I would save the video from Keynote (knowing what you're going to say in the audio recording), record audio in garageband and put it all together in iMovie. I've never done it by that's where my mind went while reading your comment! It must be rehearsed, of course.

Yet another amazing treat for those of us in the secret Keynote fan club!

In general what microphone do you use to record your voice? What is the volume set up please?

You pick your mic for recording in Keynote in Mac System Settings/Preferences, under Sound - Input.

But it doesn't have some of the cool build stuff- images floating in etc... that makes Keynote more creative.
