Same I ain't raising any iPad kids, I want my kids to read books and develop any kinds of hobbies from outdoor to indoor activities. I don't want their brains to be polluted by the internet or social media.

I think the thing to remember is that iPad kids come from neglectful parenting. You can totally have kids be healthy and happy while still having them on the internet or gaming, you just have to make sure they're mentally stimulated and doing other things too, especially early on.

yup, and also letting them have unrestricted internet access is also neglectful and very harmful. 7 year olds are out here watching corn at school

This exactly. I had to explain to a parent not too long ago why allowing their kid to be completely unsupervised on the Internet + on their VR headset was a bad idea. They really didn't understand it till I started talking about the Free-to-play VR game "VRChat" and some of the stuff I've heard on there and then they were just like ??????. Turns out the kid (11 years old) had almost 200hrs in VRChat when the Mom finally decided to take an interest in the stuff her daughter did. Of course the daughter fought back and got mad about her Mom being "nosy" but had she guided her kid from the start and taken an interest in what her daughter was doing online, this wouldn't have happened.

@@Venoxium how can parents be so clueless?? boomer parents sucked but at least they were wary of the internet

Some parents out there depend too much on smart devices.

@@blaneyu exactly. Those are the ones who didn't think kids would involve effort, so now they just stick their kids in front of a screen to get away from actually parenting. It's sad lol

I agree with the "no smartphones until they're 13" thing. I just wouldn't want to take the risk that they find something inappropriate for their age before they're old enough to be exposed to things they may not be 100% ready for yet.

The whole topic of iPad kids reminds me of the fact my two half-sisters, and particularly the oldest sister, is already addicted to smartphones. She’s 6.
If you don’t give her my dad’s phone right away and he doesn’t unlock it for her, she makes a temper tantrum. Even in public. She relentlessly asks for his phone. It’s just… really sad.
Of course, my dad doesn’t let her have her way, and controls her phone use strictly, but it’s still concerning how quick she got latched to a phone.

it reminds me of my baby cousin, who's ONE and cries when a phone is taken out of her hands, regardless if its on or off. It scares me a bit that she's attached to tech this early :(

I didn’t get my phone until I was in high school, and I’m quite greatful for that since my life isn’t integrated to a phone that way.

Interesting to note that even Steve Jobs didn't want his kids to be iPad kids either.
