Yeah man. They need to put something on the top of those bags, all it would take is a bag to block the pressure port and kabam they made a steam bomb in their kitchen. Super dangerous.
It's to kill every bacteria and fungi already present in the sawdust mixture. The pressure cooker can raise the temperature above "normal" 100°C to cook, at 15PSI the temperature will be around 121°C
I'm thinking of taking a large tank an filling it with steam to treat a larger quantity of sawdust. The Pan in the video looks too small for any serious quantity of mushrooms. In
We had great results! We have expanded with king, snow, gray and pink oysters. My favorite is lions mane, but seems to be harder to get the right conditions.
You just made a BOMB...OMG.
awesome video. Thank you
be careful with bags potentially blocking the vent/ports. I place another rack on the top of bags before placing the lid on. happy mushrooming!

Thanks, we will do that. Btw, we have been using the lime cold sterilization technique, don't use the pressure cooker any more.
@@ramblingrosebudfarm2744 did you make a video on that?
Why do all those sterilizing steps and then use a unsterile measuring cup to measure your spawn?
We corrected that, thanks!
Why the plastic bags ? Couldn't the steam pan just be filled with sawdust ?
And the bagging done later ?
What chemicals make up the disinfectant ?
I don't get the pressure cooker bit...
Is this to fully moisturise the sawdust ?
Or is there some other reason ?

Why does the sawdust have to be subjected to 15psi steam pressure for 2 hours ?
Can you use aspen?
Did you put something on top of the top bags?
Why wheat bran ? What function does it serve please ?

Can you use rye instead of wheat bran?

Any problems with contamination yet? Or have you been lucky in that regard?
Yes we get contamination, but it's pretty random. We are using the cold lime technique, and get about the same amount of contamination.
Any videos with all steps till we can eat/sell the Shitakis?
We get better results using shitaki logs, check out our video from last fall.
Hi, I realy loved your video, I would like to know how the mushrooms turned out? How much does one bag yield?
We had great results! We have expanded with king, snow, gray and pink oysters. My favorite is lions mane, but seems to be harder to get the right conditions.
Any chance you shared the videos through to the progress?
If you sterilized the spawn bag "...the other day" it's not sterile. It's just not.
YOUR PRESSURE COOKER IS DANGEROUSLY OVER FULL, IF THE TOP BAGS COVER THE VENT YOU WILL HAVE A BOMB.
Yes, next batch, we put fewer bags in there and put a porous metal plate on top. Thanks!
Why not just use a stelie spoon to stir?
your going to blow your house up,you need to put plate over bags,so vents don't get plugged with plastic bags
Yes, we corrected that. We now use mostly the cold alkaline pasteurizing method now.
This video is what not to do
We have decided to do cold sterilization with lime. A lot easier and efficient.
Some hand sanitizers can cause cancer
We use 95% isopropyl alcohol to sterilize gloves and equipment.
