I found Son House's music after I saw the movie ' Crossroads', and then bought the complete recordings of Robert Johnson, leaned to play like him ( best I could,) then reading the letter inside the CD case I read that Mr. House was one of the older guys Robert always went to to listen and learn . Johnson being so much a part of my playing I thought " if Son House was an influence, I gotta hear him." It wasn't easy back then before everyone had a computer, the Internet for public still in infancy, no Google, no RUclips, to find stuff like this, I bought a 64 Stratocaster from an older cat, we got to talking musicians and he was well versed in all that I wanted to be, actually had. Vinyl of most artists, not Son House , but we travelled to his friends home, who was trying to amass a record setting library of blues, r and b, soul, funk, anything that was artists that were fastly becoming lost and unknown then, he had everything from CDs to the old tubes for phonographs 72's, big 10" ers, he let me take a reel to reel of Son House, said if I brought it back properly, he'd let me take something else, and that's how I learned of 99% of my influences and since then I've acquired a 1934 National , plus a few wooden resonator guitars and dobros, he, and others from his era , delta blues, chitlin circuit, completely changed my understanding, likes, view of music.

This is actually a very difficult piece to play on the guitar, compare Son's version to Johnny Winter's version, you'll see Son glides through it while Johnny has some difficulty with it, House was a superb guitar player.
Thank you for saying that. I've always wondered why more people don't notice how good he was as a guitarist or even that he was a guitarist. It seems like everyone raves about him, but this might be the first time that I have heard any real appraisal or discussion of his playing. Even people that make their living from the blues don't talk about it. It's kind of mystifying.

OMG, this was fantastic! I've never heard of son house before. I absolutely love the blues and this was terrific! That's delta blues no doubt.
He's one of the pillars of the blues, imo... he was one of the mentors to my all-time favorite, Howlin' Wolf.
