Ill say this Sabarro has a place in my heart but nothing beats those chinese fast food mall joints that stuff the hell outta the takeout plate.
As someone from Wisconsin, Josh and Nicole saying there is such a thing as too much cheese is blasphemy. And their Wisco accents killed me! I 100% agree with everything Josh said about our offense.
Agree! I have a specific drawer in my fridge for cheese(and summer sausage .)
There are people who don't have a cheese drawer?!?! How do they live?! 😂
@monicalee82 it's called eating a normal, healthy diet. It would probably help with your obvious mental health issues.
I wonder what Josh and Nicole would think of Culver’s? 🧀
Wisconite here and I agree 100% their is no such thing as too much cheese lol❤
I worked at Spencers in the 80s. I've pierced more baby ears and stocked more plastic vomit than I care to remember.
I managed a Spencers in the 2000's and had to clean up lube on a daily basis. Not exactly the easiest cleanup
What an experience!
From 2006-2012, my son celebrated every birthday at a local, non-chain Mongolian grill place. When they closed down, he switched to hibachi dinner lol.
I agree about the fine dining at the mall. I live within a 10 minute drive of the Mall of America, and the food courts are an EXPERIENCE there. I would recommend it, just for how wild it is.
To me only Twin City Grill is fine dining now. Crave is just a fancy Applebee's. I live about 40 minutes south of MOA.
The way Josh said he "popped his cervix" was so unnecesarially funny 😂 got some looks while i listened to this at work because of how loud i laughed
My malls were also Irvine Spectrum and Laguna Hills Mall sometimes, lived closer to the Marketplace and Mainplace Mall! Loved hearing the shoutout from Josh.
Irvine Spectrum was amazing to me bc they had Suncoast
I literally never thought I would hear HIM mentioned on this podcast. Amazing.
Totally.
HIM?
@devynkumar1997 The band HIM was mentioned.
Same! I was like did she just say Ville Valo?? I was obsessed with him when I was 13 😂
Ok but the bourbon chicken was always my go to mall food. Maybe it’s a Midwest thing? If we wanted to get fancy we made it over to PF Changs and got the lettuce wraps lol
This reaches kids who grew up in texas and canada (some regions) too. I feel like that first bourbon chicken sample started a new chapter of my life
I would go to the mall just for bourbon chicken. I grew up in the south. It was everywhere at every mall.
Dude same!!
The early 2000's mall food court was the best!
Now, the late 80s to Mid 90s
Agreed
I think we all remember the same mall food because a single company owns or has bought most of the malls in the US and contracts food with the same companies.
Rather than Chopped I'd actually prefer to see Josh on Cutthroat Kitchen because the energy of Alton Brown punishing Josh by making him cook with BDSM equipment sounds exquisitely entertaining and Josh is the most equipment to survive Alton's sinister mind.
Yeah new Kittie single is 🔥 and KoRn absolutely could fairly be credited amongst the grandfathers of nu metal
I used to manage a "mall chicken" spot. The bourbon chicken sauce is basically brown sugar, soy sauce, gsrlic and ginger.
There is a Kura Revolving Sushi Bar in Pittsburgh that more or less stands on its own. It’s great! Amazing place to go with friends and has Amazing Taiyaki
Sarku Japan teriyaki chicken is the absolute best
you just unlocked a core memory for me.
it's absolute trash

I was a regional development chef for Whole Foods, and one of the projects I worked on was a Mongolian BBQ venue for a store at a strip mall in New Jersey. We cooked with two steel swords that had to weigh several pounds each and on opening day I worked the line for 12 hours and we cooked over 200 bowls. When I got home my wrists and elbows were so sore that I had to soak my arms in 5 gallon buckets of ice water like a pitcher who just finished a complete game!
Awesome job Josh with the podcast see you on Tuesday
I am not a cheese steak sandwich person but Charlie's is working to change my mind! Everything Josh said, it must be because you're all out in California where no one wants to work! Of course, paying $30 dollars for a sandwich might change my position as well.
But down here in Texas, it's legit good!
My mom and I loved Hot Topic lol
I've eaten Mongolian BBQ many times but never at a mall. There was one right next door to my comic shop in Fountain Valley on Garfield and Brookhurst. Sadly it's gone now as the strip mall partly burned down and they rebuilt it without any of its original tenants. Shout out to Two Brothers Pizza and their kimchi bacon pie.
😮 I used to live in FV and only ate their once. So sad to hear 😢
The band with that heart/pentagram-logo is the Finnish band HIM.
I was yelling this at the screen, lol. Also it's Ville Valo. I had a friend who was obsessed- I really liked them, but wasn't obsessed (obsessed with man other things, but not that particular band, haha).
11:45 I uncontrollably spontaneously clapped and exclaimed “YES” it’s so true
Pretzel bites and cheese sauce entrée, mall sugar chicken main dish, slice of cookie cake from the Great American Cookie Company for dessert, and a raspberry lemonade. Younger me’s perfect mall meal.
As a Wisconsinite, 'Opinions Are Like Casseroles' was extremely good for me this week.
2:09 as if I couldn’t love Josh anymore and now to find out he’s a Kittie fan??? 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Bourbon, chicken is really common here in Minnesota at at Chinese restaurants, my favorite is Leann chins
I miss their house special chicken. It was fried like sesame chicken but the sauce was more of a sweet soy and not spicy. I do love sesame chicken too, but sometimes I don't want spice.
I love sugar chickennn. My mall had a Kojo of Japan- teriyaki chicken (thats cooked on a giant skillet top) with white rice, and some of that extra ooey gooey sweet ass teriyaki sludge sauce
I also prefer fake syrup, specially the one with fake butter flavor. It’s mostly because of the fake syrup having a thicker consitency.
The family owned Greek spot is always bangin
I have very fond memories of my mom and I going to the Mall and we would share an order of mall chicken with extra chicken.
if y'all ever visit the south shore plaza, they've got all the fixins of Old Mall Vibe. they actually brought back an FYE.
The Sherman Oaks Kura is honestly really good. Especially for a mall.
I’m from FL & it Sbarro closed in the early 80’s. 😢 I worked around the corner from our local mall & my friends & I loved going to Taco Viva for burritos every time we’d work!! ❤❤❤
If I was at the mall with my mom, we always shared a ranch 1 chicken tenders and fries. With friends, it was almost always Panda Express.
Auntie Anne's, Hot Dog on a Stick, and Mrs. Fields.
Hard on auntie Anne’s
lmao I recently went to a new fancy mall...first time since I was a teen....insane the flash backs! (especially trying to find a bathroom haha!) lmao you guys dropping some awesome memory bombs...kittie, korn, spencers, and pizza, etc. I love you guys
Opening AHDIAS with a nu metal discussion is something I wasn’t expecting and I am happy
Bourbon Chicken was the first iteration of mall chicken I ever had. 90s, toothpicks, Roosevelt Field Mall in Long Island, NY.
I am 44. I remember things 😅
(On LI). Cmon bud 😂😂😂
The Bangor ME mall has maybe 1 starbucks/quick cafe bakery place now. No other food places. Used to have a Sbarro, a Chinese place, a Dairy Queen Grill (I remember they did a surprisingly good fried shrimp basket for a fast food!), a pretzel place (not Annies or Wetzels), and a Ruby Tuesday (a looooong time ago and far inferior to the standalone restaurant), and maybe a couple other small ones. Also the mall has been taken over by churches and two different community theatre companies, which good for them but totally not worth it to go to the mall anymore.
Congrats to Josh on the Jimmy Fallon appearance with R&L. I just skipped through their part to watch the Josh part tbh
Crying - I went to Brea Mall about 2 months ago just for Kura and during the 30 min wait, my friend and I snagged pretzel bites and the pretzel dog from Wetzel 😂. Of course had to get the quintessential lemonade from Hot Dog on a Stick too!
Would have to agree with Nicole, my mom and I worked but were mall rats on the weekend and would religously eat Mongolian grill.
The whole mall experience is definitely a trip. Been in malls since I was a literal tot to basically when I was 25 and especially after working there fresh out of high school, the mall is something important to me. I don't miss the memories of how it was but it still brings me happiness to go.
I also don't regret working there but it definitely was the weirdest & best choice I could've made for 3 years since I was piss poor, needed new clothes all the time, and can eat like sh*t & cheap from all the food court friends I made.
Also shout out to Lee's Sandwhiches at the mall - I wouldn't have been able to survive without their Viet Coffee
Next time you're in Chicago, you need to go to Woodfield Mall! They are still super busy and not many stores are vacant
Bourbon chicken and Charlie’s Cheesesteaks are awesome but nothing beats Sarku Japan double chicken!
His infernal majesty ** 🤘🤘
Sarku Japan for me.
I grew up in a small town. Our weekend outings were going to the Walmart and eating at the subway there. When we would take an hour drive to go to a mall and eat Sbarro, that was high life.
I wish i had listened to this yesterday! cause i cleaned out the fridge since garbage pick up is 7am today
I just got over the pain of sbarro leaving our mall food court when I was a child, and now I'm being reminded of what I'm missing...
JOSH. NICOLE. YOU DID NOT GIVE MALL CHICKEN ENOUGH CREDIT! Chicken teriyaki is literally the best thing ever. I need you both to eat it again immediately and possibly do a mall version of fancy fast foods 👀
Metal is definitely becoming more widely accepted in the public's eye. Bands like Lorna Shore (w/ Ramos) and Slaughter to Prevail are RAKING in streams and views. Not to mention the meteoric rise of Sleep Token.
Josh turned into a South Park character at the end 🤣
Twisted Transistor is their best song, kind of made it ok to empathize with people who feel different, in an age where mainstream slammed it.
as someone in south Carolina, the mall experience is totally different
The answer is always Cinnabon. Everything else is a waste of money.😅
Laguna Hills mall has been demolished and the Irvine Spectrum has gotten even fancier.
I’m a big Lotus Express fan. I will make a special trip to the mall specifically to get Lotus Express and nothing else. lol
The entire time I'm screaming Mongolian BBQ and then... Nicole finally said it.
As someone who lived in WV through their teens, we always had Spencer’s but didn’t get hot topic until WAY later.
We have bourbon chicken in south Texas. Don't know how authentic it is, since I've only seen it at Golden Corral.
I believe the best mall food is Cinnabon.
When Josh said "Massis chicken koobideh" I yelled "yes!" at the screen. My favorite mall food of all time that everyone else is sleeping on.
Auntie Ann’s,Mrs. Fields, Cinnabon , One potato, two potato , were some of my favorites.
Literally went to the mall today and didn't see this until I got back
Nicole your favorite arabic song is a solid pic. I immediately started hearing it in my head. Im arab! Arabic and english are both my first languages
14:57 replace the Mongolian Noodle Barbecue with the absolute weirdest and best Teriyaki you will ever have in your life and that is every Midwestern mall.
Onami at the Laguna Hills Mall feels like a fever dream of a bygone era but also I miss those little silver muffin cups filled with white chocolate and raspberry sauce.
Anyone remember corn dog 7? That was my favorite back in the 80s. We had one at the Baytown mall in Texas
The answer is Sakio/Sarku.
Chicken teriyaki, double meat, fried rice, no vegetables, add mushrooms, two scoops of sauce, and a drizzle of Sriracha.
double meat?? there's already tons of low quality rubbery chicken on a standard plate, doubling up on that is unhinged
There is only one correct itinerary here. Getting a milkshake , an auntie Anne pretzel and some Mall popcorn and then going to the brookstone and sitting down in the top of the line massage chair and watching a full length movie on the glasses that plug into the portable DVD player.
That was the move.
I had a slice and some breadsticks from the Sbarro’s in the “basement” of Bally’s in Las Vegas. They’re really playing into the dying mall motif there, even after the Horseshoe takeover.
There was a place at my mall called 1 Potato 2. I absolutely loved it. Gravy fries, cheese fries, baked potatoes 🥔🤤
Literally the most standout moment in this whole episode for me was that Jude the Boisean didn't say Boise right but Josh did
Don't get Nicoles discussion with family about where to go in the mall for food. We're getting Panda ... Isn't that the point of a food court? you can have 4 family members and everyone goes to their own place. Bourbon chicken is more sugary than teriaki, both good, switch it up a bit.
Bourbon Chicken is THE mall food for me still to this day lol
Torch burnt marshmallows are different than campfire ones. But you actually have to roast em nice & slow & even for a min or two and then burn em to get char outside, ooey gooey innards.
As someone tall and with long narrow feet, I have to opposite experience with buying clothes online. Regular "brick & mortar" stores would be less likely to have great fitting clothes a variety of designs if your fit isn't in high demand. It would be impractical to have such merchandise in stock at any time, so I find it better to purchase through the stores' respective sites. Where it's more warehouse emporium design that fills and ships orders.
In terms of Spencer-type stores, South Shore Plaza (in Braintree, MA) had a DAPY.
A less common store chain was That's Entertainment. The Wrentham Outlets had one for a while, and the place was dedicated to (often off-beat) and very kitschy pop culture merch.
I could watch Josh be a contestant on Chopped, but he’d play a good villain contestant. He’s got that pretentious thing going for him.
Firstly, I love Sbarro 😅 2nd, my mom much preferred hot topic over hollister/american eagle any day!
Hhhm Chick-fil-A , bao dumpling, Charley's at our local. 💜
Honey over maple all the way
I always get an Auntie Anne's pretzel bites when I go to the mall once a year! Yummy!
Bring back swearing and drinking. Watched the episode with Burt and it was fire.
In my experience alot of Chinese restaurants in Kentucky call their teriyaki chicken bourbon chicken
I still love Sbarro and now I need to eat it. Damn you.
Malls stopped being used when high schoolers were getting kicked out for using as a hangout. Then no one wanted to go, parents wouldnt bring the kids because they didn't want to support the place that kept them out. That and the VID restrictions that never recovered from using online buying.
I wish I could remember the mall food at the Millcreek mall in Erie, back in 1975.
I remember we had two Arcade places.
How you know a Sabotage episode will be good is if Lily shows up with a blowtorch. Lily will terrify you. See the Thanksgiving Sabotage episode.
Spoke in tongues for the last five minutes, idk what to think
Honey is food gold. I wish more insects made delicious condiments.
I have had some decent Coffee at a mall from an Indian coffee shop called “AZ Café Coffee”.
Sorry Josh, as someone who grew up in the late 70’s and 80’s, we never thought Sabbaro was good. 😂 It was always highly mediocre. It was just fast and easy to eat while walking. The Century City Mall was the best! I lived within walking distance of 3rd Street and Santa Monica place and I would always drive to Century City instead. 😂 The parking was easy and I loved walking outside. My favorite mall adjacent restaurant was Island’s at the Manhattan Beach mall. I miss Island Burgers and onion rings something fierce. Thank you for taking me down memory lane.
I would love to see a Best Ever Food Review Show colab!! Josh check out Sheperds Reign the best Polynesian metal youll ever hear!!!
When I go back to California, I get off the plane, get my rental car and my first stop is the closest mall for Hot Dog on a Stick.
Steve Madden does make men’s shoes 😂
The BEST THING we had in our Mall was a Vans Skate park n the mall was right across the street from the Garfield Senior Highschool in VA. ERY'BODY went there everyday especially on Fridays ! Skip school ya goin to the mall lol.
You can go skate n buy clothes/ skate gear it was HEAVEN.
The food at Denver International Airport is pretty good, if you actually go to a restaurant.
I love those hot dog water cups. Are they going to be on your merch site? I would love to buy one.
My mall doesn't have a single one of these...
josh’s pronunciation of guaraná was insane
