I did this conversion a few months ago on our '10 LR4 , I don't miss the air suspension all that much. The piece of mind of less components to fail on my 120K+ mile 11 year old vehicle is nice.
When he struggles at 15:01, I found the trick to to have someone put their weight on the wheel hub, to push the suspension assembly down. Then the coil will go in easily.
2006 LR3 : Spent most of my first day trying to get the shock up into the sway arm -- Pro Tip: Don't raise just one side of the vehicle, I did, and it actually works against you by loading the sway arm with tremendous energy, do front and then back. Stay tuned for my next update. What a difference doing the front (or rear) first makes, the passenger side took me literally 8 hrs this morning, while the drivers side was just under an hour. First impression of the lift is....Wow, the front is noticeably higher, almost to the point that you need to pay attention of the finished height as you might not make it out of the garage especially if you have a roof rack. Tomorrow is the rear...stay tuned
Did you have any issue getting the HD spring onto the shocks, currently have the rear on but cannot get the spring compressed enough to get the top bolt on.
I know you posted this a year ago, but I think what you're describing may be my problem. I am using a floor jack and two jack stands, and performing the conversion a single corner at a time. I've managed to complete the rear wheels, stepping on the break rotor to lower the wheel assembly enough to slip the strut up into the upper strut bracket. But on the front, with just the driver's side front wheel raised, I have a whopping 2.5 inches to cover to line up the hole on the strut hangin below the hole on the wheel assembly. Is it as simple as equally raising the front passenger side of the vehicle? 2006 Range Rover Sport. Thank you in advance for your feedback.
Just finished this after 8 hours on my LR3 a couple days ago. The rear struts seemed impossible to get into position, but then I realized you can drop the bottom in, align the top where you won’t bend a bolt when you kick it past the housing, and kick the rear strut into place. The rear housing has enough give that it will bend out of the way for a split second and pop right back. Yes, you’ll scratch the black paint on the pretty new strut just a little, but oh well. It made getting the rear struts into place to be bolted in like a 1 minute job, instead of a 20 minute wrestling match. Also, PB B’laster spray and a 2-foot breaker bar plus a 2-foot metal pipe helped with the nearly 400 ft-pounds I needed to release the bottom rear nut on each side! When you retorque them in the end, they only need around 221 ft-lbs however. And yeah, the smooth air ride has been downgraded a little to a regular SUV ride now, but nothing bad or unusual. The body has a little more sway in the turns, but this isn’t a sports car anyway. And it still goes through the rough cow pastures now just like any SUV or pickup. I did 80 down the Interstate, and it felt perfectly stable and boring as well. And your video helped my confidence a lot, so thank you!
Parts are of highest quality, very pleased with parts. If you think this is a one person job, you are completely out of your mind. Front struts, PIA, but doable. Rear strut removal no fun, but doable. I came in to watch this video again and again to see how he managed to install those new rear springs, and he conveniently cuts out, then comes back with the spring installed, saying it can be a "wrestling match" I have been "wrestling" with the first rear spring for 3 hours until my arms simply gave out. 3 people, two crow bars, and a ton of swear words, I could not maneuver rear spring in place. Any hints appreciated
This all happened last Friday. Friday evening I made this comment, and sent a "help" request to Atlantic British. By Monday, I had not one, but TWO people from AB call me to help, and it all boils down to - I needed a bigger crowbar. A 3 or 4 foot crowbar, and your LR3 will just laugh at you. Seriously. I went to Ace, asked them for the biggest crowbar ever created by humankind, and was sold a 5 foot solid steel bar. My LR3 cried uncle, And Life was good again. Thank you AB!
@@mks_95al_ghamdi91 WITH a 5-6 foot crowbar and a helper, count on 6 hours. Without helper, figure 9-10 hours, without 5-6 foot crowbar, not until the earth crashes back into the sun. The design & workmanship on the parts by Atlantic British is OUTSTANDING, their support is top notch, but you are working with heavy springs and a suspension that does not like change.

@@mks_95al_ghamdi91 In my humble opinion, your best bet would be to purchase an LR Discovery Series II for your trip, & re-sell it when you are done. The only off-roading I would trust my LRIII for would be pulling into my driveway or a parking lot. I never felt that way about the LRII
This is perfect and easy. 2007 Range Rover sport. The wiring wasn’t explain clearly for the ground wire. It is used the ground wire from the white plug towards the engine and connection with the wires with the harness towards the rear of the vehicle. The rear shock was a pain the butt.
Took me 6 hours in 2 afternoons sessions in the drive way. This is the standard on how to complete thus task. The only thing I will add to anyone starting is you need to be patient with the bottom bolt alignment. Get creative and you will get it aligned and done. I am going to knock out the flash tomorrow and will update after the flash.
I have a 2008 LR3 with DSC. Should I disconnect the height sensors during the conversion? You mentioned it in passing and i need to make sure I don't create any issues for myself if I disconnect them. I purchased the AB Part L319SRK/L320SRK last year (just now getting to it this Xmas break) and the instructions state to "disconnect the electrical connectors from all four height sensors and wire tie them to prevent contact with any moving components". Here's to hoping you get to this during the Xmas break!

Hi Nicholas, Our EAS Flash devices are programmed specifically for our air-to-coil kits to help reset the programming for moving from EAS to Coil. The re-flash device will not work with engine conversions.

Great job. I do have an L322 Range Rover Vogue 4.4, its a 2005 model. It came with coil suspension from the previous owner except the rear is too low as compared to the front. What would you recommend?
I’m installing but the rear coils are not lining up at the base plate. Base plate flat side with hole is facing to the back corner of the vehicle. Only one way the top bolts align.
My mechanic advised against the spring shocks. All he said was they’re bad. Can some please advise whether to stay with air or go to springs? Help please

I have a 2008 HSE Sport that was converted to coil springs several years ago and I do not know what kit was used. Can the reflash be used to clear the suspension warning light? Also, the car has recently started acting crazy. After driving from 5 to 15 minutes it will shut down the Nav system, the radio, the info screen, the blinkers but turn on the emergency flashers all by itself. The battery is new, when I crank it up the battery has 14.4 volts and will eventually draw down to 9.7 but keeps running. If I shut it down it will not crank or even make a sound but if I let it sit for 15 minutes the battery will be back to 14 volts and it will crank right up. Nobody that I have taken it to has a clue but they want to keep it for several days to run tests
Have you taken it to a shop that specializes in Land Rovers? If not, we might be able to recommend one if there is one in your area. What city/state/zip are you?
It sounds like you're having alternator issues...while the vehicle is running it's not charging and allowing the battery to drain trying to keep the systems running. As it drains, it starts prioritizing the engine over ancillary components, and will eventually shut down. As for the recharge, a strong wet-cell battery will recharge on its own.
Yes, I took it to the RR dealer in Birmingham, AL and also to a private RR shop, Road Britannia Ltd, in Atlanta. We have Eagle Imports here in Auburn, AL that has been doing service work. The RR dealer and Road Britannia refuse to work on the car due to the coilover conversion. Eagle Imports said the alternator is good?
Is it possible for the alternator to charge when first cranked up and then shut down? When I first start the rr the battery shows 14.4v but when it starts shutting down systems it can drop to below 10v. After letting it sit a while I can crank it back up and the battery show 14.4v.

So I did this and no matter what I do, I get all the dash lights come on. I try to hook my icarsoft device into the obd2 port and it can't connect to the transmission and several other systems. Is there another device I can use to make this work??

I am running 285 50 20 after I finally get the front fully installed - can't seem to get the bolt installed on the bottom of the strut - any suggestions welcomed. I'm converting from air struts w/ 3" Johnson lift rods. The rear coil springs are installed, they were easier, and the height is magic.

After driving from 5 to 15 minutes it will shut down the Nav system, the radio, the info screen, the blinkers but turn on the emergency flashers all by itself. The battery is new, when I crank it up the battery has 14.4 volts and will eventually draw down to 9.7 but keeps running. If I shut it down it will not crank or even make a sound but if I let it sit for 15 minutes the battery will be back to 14 volts and it will crank right up. Nobody that I have taken it to has a clue but they want to keep it for several days to run tests
Have you taken it to a shop that specializes in Land Rovers? If not, we might be able to recommend one if there is one in your area. What city/state/zip are you?
It sounds like you're having alternator issues...while the vehicle is running it's not charging and allowing the battery to drain trying to keep the systems running. As it drains, it starts prioritizing the engine over ancillary components, and will eventually shut down. As for the recharge, a strong wet-cell battery will recharge on its own.
Yes, I took it to the RR dealer in Birmingham, AL and also to a private RR shop, Road Britannia Ltd, in Atlanta. We have Eagle Imports here in Auburn, AL that has been doing service work. The RR dealer and Road Britannia refuse to work on the car due to the coilover conversion. Eagle Imports said the alternator is good?

Is it possible for the alternator to charge when first cranked up and then shut down? When I first start the rr the battery shows 14.4v but when it starts shutting down systems it can drop to below 10v. After letting it sit a while I can crank it back up and the battery show 14.4v.

what do you do with the air compressor?

So I did this and no matter what I do, I get all the dash lights come on. I try to hook my icarsoft device into the obd2 port and it can't connect to the transmission and several other systems. Is there another device I can use to make this work??

I am running 285 50 20 after I finally get the front fully installed - can't seem to get the bolt installed on the bottom of the strut - any suggestions welcomed. I'm converting from air struts w/ 3" Johnson lift rods. The rear coil springs are installed, they were easier, and the height is magic.
