    I am new to your channel and LOVING it. You have a lot of great information and options for different plant growing styles. Im even picking up a thing or two for my outdoor gardening as well (I've only recently gotten into house plants). I really love your scientific approach because its much easier to adapt it to my own way of doing things that works for me and my plants. I'll definitely be binging your videos for a while. Lol

    Interesting. I’ve been looking into foliar feeding effectiveness the past couple weeks. I believe it can’t hurt, but wonder how much it helps.
    I wonder if you could do an experiment in your controlled environment? Since you showed Obliqua (one of my faves), maybe use two with your normal regimen, 2 with monthly foliar, and 2 with weekly and comparison their color and growth?
    I find plant science is real close to bro science in the gym. I get sucked in too, and the results “must be” from my new “X” (soil mix, moss pole, light, water regimen, aerated pot, mychros, beneficials, etc etc). Measurable results would be super helpful.

    • @prettyingreen
      @prettyingreen  Год назад +5

      This is a VERY valid critique of not only foliar, but almost any plant "supplement". A perfect analog is gym/workout supplements. Most of it is BS, and doesn't help. I've probably spent thousands on the ones that don't work. Now, I only use additives that I've read scientific papers on, and the proven causal effects for the same genus that I'm working with. The ones I use in this video, I stand behind the visual differences I see when using versus not.
      But I definitely want to put a few different items into A/B testing with/without use to see the effects!

    How long does the foliar feed last after its mixed? And do you think I can use this on moss? I am using moss around the base of my anthuriums and they seems to really like it and its encouraged some great extra rooting.

    I'm just starting an indoor project and plan to make use of a great myco soil + tea schedule combined with foliar feedings
    Instead of Silica, I'll be trying out some food-grade DE in an aerated tea which will hopefully also provide pest control benefits;
    Instead of B1, I'll be adding gel from one of my Aloe Vera plants (the gel can also act as a rooting agent when mixed with this tea for my cuttings around the house)
    Liq Seakelp, NEEM, Humic, lemon for pH; Everything else is identical to your setup. I have a few more smart pots scattered around and some DWC experiments with aerated pumps, but I'm glad I found someone on RUclips who is on the same trajectory. I thought I was going crazy, this stuff should be mandatory for every grower no matter what crop!

      Your plan sounds perfect! I’ve tried a bunch of supplements, but landed on these few as things that actually changed the way the plants grow 😄
      Good luck with the grow! Sounds great!

    Agree w/others, your channel is awesome. Awesome how much I learn w/your clips that are ~10 mins!
    Realized afterwards that a 1 gallon volume of foliar solution was too much for my collection. Think it's a bad idea to use the remaining solution for soil drench/regular hydro feeding?

    • @prettyingreen
      @prettyingreen  10 месяцев назад +2

      You’d probably be ok using it as a soil drench! Maybe dilute down by 1/2 to be safe depending what you put in! I appreciate the kind words 🤗

    Very well explained, thank you! I have always wondered how the folliage spray works. I got the Photo+ as a gift and have wondered if I should use it.
    So even when using foliage spray, you don't change your fertilizing schedule for fertilizing roots?

    • @prettyingreen
      @prettyingreen  Год назад +1

      Hey! I don’t know about Photo+ but I don’t changed my root fertilizer because I’m usually using supplements beyond our LECA A+B fert like Silica, kelp, root booster (which has humic acids). I hope this helps 😄

    Chris do you know about the PMM method? Professor monstera method - a semi-hydro system using coco-perlite and a ton of nutrients and beneficial bacteria. They say to add silica first and wait 20 mins, else if nutrients added immediately after silica they would interfere with the silica’s ability to bind (or something like that). Just wondering if the same would apply here.

    • @prettyingreen
      @prettyingreen  Год назад

      I have heard of the Professor Monstera Method recently! Yes this would be the same concept. Add the silica into plain water first. Allow it to mix well with the water (20 mins should be plenty)

    Thank you for another great video! Are the stomata always open? Or should you spray at a specific time of day for max absorption?

    • @prettyingreen
      @prettyingreen  Год назад

      The stomata open and close when the plant “sees” light. So spray when the light has been on / sun has been out for at least 15 minutes 😄

    I've had more success with cuttings when using foliage sprays than without. I was never great at it, but it has helped my odds a bit, I try not to over do it as I notice mold will grow if I do it frequently but I like to take the cover off my humidity dome daily and lightly mist.
    Every few days I'll use a foliage spray, it seems to help the plants maintain their leafs longer, and I'm sure some nutrition is better than none while trying to establish a root system.

    This is an interesting topic, but the video is rather useless as you are only doing undocumented claims without explaining things in details.
    What sort of nutrients do you think the Monstera are lacking since they are not deep green? Nitrogen or Iron or?
    Why can foliage feeding not replace root feeding?
    So kelp is high in Potassium. Is potassium normally a problem to get from the roots?
    Why/how does B1 help? Is it a micromicro nutrient or do you have any documentation?
