Pet Food Review - The BEST Food For Dogs & Cats...And What To Avoid!

- Опубликовано: 2 июн 2024
- Finally, here is my long awaited pet food review for dogs and cats! It's kind of scary that our pets are coming down with the same health issues as us, but that is because there is so much garbage in dog and cat food. Simple and starchy carbs, processed oils, and mystery meat should not be in pet food, the diet should be made of high quality protein, good fats, and some complex carbs. I hit the pet food aisle of the grocery store to show you what to look for and avoid when buying pet food. Hope you enjoyed...and I miss Josh the bichon!

Thank you, Bobby for doing this video. I was one of the people who asked for this. I appreciate you listening to us!
Thank you SO MUCH for this video!!!! I get so frustrated by the low quality ingredients in pet food and I’m constantly reviewing the ingredients list before purchasing. It can be so overwhelming but your video has really helped me to better understand what to look for a what to avoid. I would 100% LOVE a deeper dive into this! It’s something that people aren’t talking about and need to be aware of so that our babies can be healthy, happy and thriving and a part of our family for many, many, many years!!!
Also, a list in the description box of the recommended brands/products and ones to avoid would be super helpful too!
Your reviews are so in depth with excellent knowledge based guidance. Awesome! Thank you Bobby!
My little dog has experienced horrendous skin problems with huge amounts of veterinarian intervention to no avail. Then I looked at the label for a can of Science Diet that she had been "prescribed". It's nothing but chemicals! Not only that, she is allergic to chicken and the food had chicken in it. I was told it was micro encapsulated and therefore would not make her break out! Finally, a month ago, I began to cook for her. She eats ground turkey sauteed in coconut oil combined with cooked sweet potatoes, carrots and beets. Just in the past few days her skin is completely clear for the first time since March 4th. Honestly it is cheaper and I know what my baby is getting - no chemicals, no crap.
That's awesome!!!! Just make sure she's getting all the vitamins and minerals she needs. Many people cook for their pets but don't think about things like that. People end up hurting their pets more because of it.
Yes Bobby please could you do several videos regard various places like PetSmart; Petco, Costco etc., store brand pet foods. Thank you. This video was extremely educational and very helpful. Again thank you!
SuperLadyVictory only if he becomes educated on what pets require.
Anything you buy at those stores is garbage
Would love to see a review on the Costco items for dogs!!
This.
Careful Costco just had a recall a couple weeks ago for dog products. Do not trust processed always check ingredients. Raw is best with treats that are 100% meat nothing else.
@@alexajablonski446 can’t afford the premium top of line organic dog food but for dog treats, I just use organic ground beef from Costco with a dehydrater and give them jerky strips more or less
I’m drinking a sugar bomb while watching this😅
So happy you did this. As others said I'd love a Costco Pet review and Petco.
I really appreciate that you did this. I was so worried about my 2 cats once I started to change my diet.
The best dog food at whole foods is steve's real food in the freezer session (usually by Amy's frozen meals). Frozen raw. Grass fed meat. No fillers. I am not sure if other whole foods have it, but every Seattle whole foods has it.
Thank you so much for doing this video!!! All of our furbabies deserve just as good a diet as we get!
I have asked for this two times. So I am really glad you did this. Thank you so much. ❤️💐
Thank you for this video.
That said, I used to feed my dog grain-free but then I read there were reports by vets that they saw dogs having heart problems with such a diet. Last I recall, the FDA was still researching it, but it was some ingredient (I believe related to legumes/peas protein) in the grain-free causing the issues since they were eating it daily vs in moderation.
Apparently it is called canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM).
Also, don't feed your pet any chicken from China.
Thank you for finally doing this video!! More pet food and treat videos!
You came through with the pet food bobby!!! Love your channel thank you so much.
Bobby! you read my mind! Can't wait to watch the video! Thank you so much for keeping healthy! :)
Ommmmmmmg I’ve been patiently waiting for this video!🙌 Thank you so much for doing this😊
MUCH NEEDED VIDEO! Thank you Bobby.
Great content as always. MORE Pets food videos please!!!
So happy for this info! Thanks Bobby 🎉
Thank you for doing this. I thought i was aware what I fed my fur baby but im now going to pay even more attention.
😊found this very helpful, thanks for all you do for us!
Appreciate the time you took to make this video. We will be switching from Halo to Organix on my next kibble dog food purchase!
My dogs are raw fed. I won't give them anything else. They are in the best of health and have never been ill. They are now 8 and 6. Xx
People need to really listen to this and make that change
@@itsfig5872 the only problem is that people think it's too much hassle feeding raw as well as the bacterial infections one can get!! But if you chop and cook raw meat for yourself then it's the same hygiene practices that you use when feeding your pets raw food!!
But it's convenience isn't it? That's what people think when feeding their pets.
Also we need to stop our vets from extolling the virtues of kibble. And to definitely stop the kibble companies from sponsoring veterinary schools!! Xx
@@toniroche-simmons2238 It is a huge burden preparing food for dogs with everybody's busy lives. Especially if you have larger dogs. And it costs more. I don't feed raw because my dogs were poisoned and now older but I have so much respect for people who care enough to make the change off commercial food.
@@itsfig5872 I buy mine already packed and frozen. All I have to do is thaw it and feed them. I get it from a reputable supplier that have rigorous checks in place xx
@@toniroche-simmons2238 Thanks my next dog I might try raw from the onset.
Thanks for this Bobby! I needed this
Thanks Bobby great review 🥰🌹🌞
Love ❤️ this video I have two cats and this 🙏 HELPS a lot. Ouhhh💡 IDEA: Supplements and vitamins review👀....??
Thank you Bobby for this video!
Hey Bobby. Love your videos. Lots of great information. I appreciate the way that you have integrated that info into your own life. Really love your Friday videos. Why not talk to an independent pet store in your area. They tend to carry non grocery store brands. Thank you.
Thank you Bobby!!!! Great video!
My favorite haul yet thank you Bobby. My Chi It’s now a senior and I need to Stay on top of things now as much and more than ever. Needing to keep the Protein on the lower side. I think that’s for kidney reasons. Need to watch her heart as well. Also has been exposed to mold and Lyme. been a tough ride the last three years.
I have been waiting for this Forever!🐶🐶❤️
Hi Bobby, love that you did this video. I’m a pet professional for just about 17 years. Just a heads up the 4 proteins that cause the most issues in dogs ie allergies, skin issues, and stomach issues are Beef, chicken, turkey, and lamb. These are important for people to avoid if their dogs have these issues. Stick with proteins that dogs would normally get in the wild. Best is fish, bison, rabbit...stuff like that. Again thanks for the details and vid on the rest of the ingredients.
What’s your recommendation?
jody thomas just make sure they the protein is one of the wild options. I use Nutri Source pure vita salmon and pea limiter ingredient grain free food. However just for dogs white fish formula is really good.
Most dogs that are fit a raw diet have no issue with those proteins. The key to any dogs diet is to very the proteins, don’t just feed fish or just feed chicken etc. Mix it up and change protein sources often.
qtmelina, thank you so much!!!!
qtmelina, do you have recommendations for cats?
My older dog started health issues not to long ago. Losing his hair and other things. I got him on a better diet and he's turning around. This was super helpful. Thank you!!!!
what are you feeding him? my older dog has hair thinning and lost it in other places.
Thank you so much for this video! It has been so hard to figure out which brand is best! Also, is it OK to give my dog chicken jerky?
Yes please make a video finding the good food for dog from petsmart , petco and cosco . Thank you!
waiting for this. Thank you.
You need to research people who know dog food. Like Dr. Karen Becker and Susan Thixton. Those are the people you should research on pet foods. Kibble is just extruded. There is nothing left but the sprayed on vitamin.
Can you PLEASE tell me what you feed your dog... Thank You VERY much 😊🐾
Great content! Thank you
Awesome! Thank you so much! If you go to PetCo would please look at WHOLE hearted brand and meal topper! Thanks!
We would like to see more videos in dollar general, Walmart, family dollar thank you for what you do!
So glad you’re helping us feed all the members of the family!! Also do you respond to DMs on Instagram?
Thanks for the pet info!
OMG THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!
Bobby, I would like your opinion about the Costco brand dog/cat foods as well. This was a great episode.
Donna Brockmiller I’ll save you some time and tell you it is TRASH.
At it's price point, it's much better than Old Roy or most anything you'll find at Walmart or Target. The Kirkland brand is manufactured by Diamond who in the past has had some faulty quality controls. Carb heavy with fillers, but certainly not the worst you can feed.
What about their Kirkland Signature Nature's Domain Organic dog food? (www.costco.com/kirkland-signature-nature's-domain-organic-chicken-%2526-pea-dog-food-30-lb..product.100155729.html) Other than organic canola oil, what other ingredients would Bobby not approve?
We heard great things about it, so that's what we switched to but someone on here who was very knowledgeable told me: "its comparable to other kibble brands. most of the protein comes from a meal. The grain free Kirkland kibble did show up on the DCM report. It wasn't a super high number and most dogs on there were are ready genetically predisposition for dcm"
Donna, you can’t look at the ingredient list and predict the answer?
No one should be avoiding grains for dogs. Search heart issue grain dog. Huge issue that no one should be ignoring.
Just watched your video about dog and cat food. I have to honest, I was surprised that you thought pea protein in food is ok. Look it up...it can be toxic, and many animals are allergic to it. It’s a cheap way to substitute protein that’s not from meat. There is no way this should be in pet food. Even the organic scare hiding junk ingredients!
I’ve noticed pea protein in a lot of vegan foods. My teens just decided to be vegan, and I’m seeing a lot of fillers or whatever in vegan products they are wanting to buy. Thanks
wildesfam that’s exactly why I cook my furbaby’ s food.
Is pea protein OK for humans?
Thank you! I’m bringing home a puppy in a few weeks and am having a hard time trying to figure out what food I want to feed!
Good information thanks
Thank you for this video!
Bobby, don’t forget about the laundry list of Chinese imported synthetic vitamins and minerals they throw into all of those processed foods. There are some brands that don’t have them!
Can you PLEASE tell me what you feed your dog... Thank You VERY much 😊🐾
I am glad you did this video, i was always wondering that as i see many of friends dog getting sick as you mentioned. My Vet & many others recommend Royal Canin. I just check the ingredient & it's awful from what i can see (are they getting kickback?). I would like if you would go to Pet Smart.
Castor and Pollux dog food the excellent one is unfortunately not making it anymore I use to feed my maltese that brand what a bummer, great video Bobby!
I found a study and it mentions that, lentils, including peas as well as potatoes and corn causes cancer tumors in dogs. Idk about cats though.
Just got a new puppy and I want her to have a great life with me. This was a great video for me. Keep it up!
Watch The Dog Doc on Amazon if u can... start giving ur puppy the best chances of a healthy life!
If you want her to have a great life with you, feed raw all the way. Never, ever kibble!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for posting. I'm going to share this on my RUclips channel. I make my own dog food, but I know that's not for everyone
I add pure 100 % pumpkin in my buddy's food
Thanks Bobby for the video. I've been looking for another premium dog food brand for my 13 year-old dachshund.
Finally!!! Thank you❤😊😊
Thanks Bobby, please do more videos on pet foods and treats. My budget is limited, so I don't shop at Whole Foods. Would like to find other resources for ped food purchases. Thx.
THANK YOU!! SO, SO HELPFUL!
(Totally off subject, but how do the vital protein collagen waters have such a long shelf life? And, come of them have natural flavors. Still approved?) Thank you again for the pet food video, switching things up in my house to see if it will help with our dogs allergies! Thank you!!
Thank you very much Bobby🐶
I love this channel ❤️
Thank you Bobby. I’ve been buying different brands of dog food..... thank you for this.
Thank you so much for this video thank you
Bobby I would like more than your opinion on commercial brands, your version of Barf meal prep with the delicious Bobby touch
My beloved dog was diabetic and I learned so much about canine nutrition. Unfortunately, I learned this too late but wanted to pass it on and share it with my dog and cat owners! Some of the best brand dog foods are Orijen and Open Farm! Their ingredients list is amazing. I highly recommend and I hope Bobby includes those brands in his future videos!
I'm seriously considering open farm for my new puppy, I also had a dog die from dcm from grain free food so I'm super paranoid about anything that will be going into my new puppys mouth. Do you like the open farm?
Dogs like humans do not need carbs. A wolf in the wild does not crave a carb fix. Ridiculous to give a dog carbs that's why they are as fat as their owners
Evangers organics is now available through Chewy
How did you know your dog is diabetic?
Open Farm is the best. Organic, sustainable, and outstanding customer service, I can't recommend enough!
Thank you, Bobby!❤
Hi Bobby! Could you please do a video on raw vs dry vs fresh dog food?
I have four rescue dogs and they take turns having upset tummies. I have tried grain-free and expensive brands not knowing what to look for on the labels. It would be nice to have a video on pet foods sold at Petco, PetSmart and Costco-stores most frequented by pet owners.
Have you tried grain free Diamond Brand?
Thank you. I have a 11 year old cat with IBD... I am going to WF tomorrow.
Thank leaving work to go buy this for my aging dog
Can you make a video on easily digested food, or something focused on IBS
More videos like this 🙏 PLEASE
Yay my dog will be very thankful 🐶 😃
Thank you for the review on dog food.
P great comments in good information everybody needs
I feed my dogs and cats Raw. Will never go back to kibble. I feed canned sometimes. But even feeding a raw diet you have to do it right or you will make your dog very sick.
Do you have recipes? I have cats and a dog. 6fatanimals@gmail.com
I would love to do this with my cats, where did you learn?
Galletti Guitar Tones A friend of mine got it started with my dog, then I decided I would also do it with my cats. Cats take longer to get used to it but it can be done.
Same here. All three of my dogs are thriving on raw food. My 7 year old rescue Aussie had bad pancreatitis, he's great now.
@@lauraclark4542 Check out the The Barf Diet
Book by Ian Billinghurst. That helped me a lot when I was switching my dogs over to raw. I also follow a raw feeder on youtube 1st508th Airborne. His videos actually got me off the fence.
Oh i spoke to soon yup some of them do have Ceragennan.
As far as a commercially available food, Weruva is the best. Carrageenan free printed right on the can.
Yes Please make more videos on Cat Food!!! I'm the Mama to Six Kitties and I want them to eat as healthy as I do, Thank You Bobby!!! =-)
Feed Raw. Cats are carnivores. No veggies, no carbs. Pure meat and bone and organ meat.
@@tinaleighton6390 Thanks!
@@tinaleighton6390feed raw like what exactly ? Chicken breast or what do u recommend?
Thank you for the video...great info! Im going to have my dogs try the organix ..they are picky eaters ..so good nutrition is important.. I wish they had sample packet foods for dog and cat food..that way you dont have to buy a bunch and if they dont like it...get rid of it...
Most stores will let you return it if your dogs don’t like it. Grain free food is not necessary good for dogs. It can cause heart issues
You should do a video of the pet food/treats from Costco!
Cool video idea but I think this is spreading misinformation. Dog food is so much more than organic, non-gmo, or inflammatory oils. Please disclaimer to see a Veterinary Nutritionist to see what’s best for your pet. I would hate to see someone take your advice and that not be the best option for their pet. And generally, if you want your pet to be healthy I would NOT even look at kibble. Kibble is cooked at such high temps that it can make the food carcinogenic. So even the best kibble on the market will still be cooked at dangerous temperatures. The best diet is a balanced homemade diet or raw diet depending on what works for the pup of course!
Oh totally. Raw food is the way with my lot. Won't feed them anything else. Xx
Yes. All kibble is contaminated with high levels of toxins too. I do balanced homemade after losing one dog and stopping right away with the other
It's Fig I’m so sorry 😭😭 I also do balanced homemade and it’s been the best thing for my little guy. I can’t stress enough how awful kibble is. Very few on the market actually cook at low temps sadly
@@camilapanzarini3200 Thank you and thank you for commenting and letting people know
Excellent comments on a balanced homemade diet or raw diet. You obviously took the time to look up what type of nutrition is best for your pet. Sounds like you are an excellent pet parent. You might want to check out Karen Becker if you don’t follow her already as she has a lot of information on this topic.
Thanks Bobby!
Thank you Bobby your the best
How did you learn SO much about ingredients?????? You are amazing. I have used IAMS for my Boston Terrier for years, I hope that one is not bad, I need to go look.
Bobby, You walked passed The Honest Kitchen. I heard good things about this, planning on trying it for my dogs. It's dehydrated food, can add to cooked food.
I feed my dogs and cats Raw. Honest kitchen is a pretty decent brand. Not Raw as in my definition of it but still good stuff.
Great video! What are your thoughts about the Dogs Royal Canin line of foods? I have a yorkie 6pds and doctor suggested to feed him Royal Canin Gastrointestinal low fat dry. Can you let me know if the ingredients are legit? I saw it had copper sulfate, copper proteinate and wondered?
Thanks for the recommendations.
90% of my paycheck goes to dog food. I'm starving and in debt, but at least my dog has a good diet.
Thank you! 🐾
There is a big controversy with grain or grain free dog food, some vets tell you not to get grain free and others to get with grains.
Thanks for your reviews from this video and maybe more including pet stores.👏🏻
That study was flawed per my Vet. Just make sure the grain free food has Taurine added. Bobby is right, corn, wheat and soy are bad for your dog.
OhSoCler my vet has had young dogs coming in with heart problems and even dying. I won’t feed grain free. He thinks it is something that’s missing in the food not necessarily that it’s grain free...just missing ingredients that they need. Maybe like the other person mentioned. Needs taurine. I will stick to my regular food. My pets have never had heart issues except for the one I was feeding way too much and once I put him on a diet the heart issue went away...never needed meds.
My dog ended up on vetmedin heart medication with an enlarged heart due to my feeding her grain free thinking it was better for her. I should have been feeding corn free, soy free & wheat free possibly but I didn't know. My daughter has now worked for a vet for 4 yrs & is in vet school. She gets our dog prescription canned royal canin now because she is older with digestive issues.
@@pamelapati1219 So is pea just because it is labeled organic does not mean it is good for our Beloveds, ugh, please follow Dr Judy Morgan and Dr Dr Karen Becker.
Sheila Sandoval poor baby. I’m so sorry to hear about this. So glad yours didn’t pass away like the ones my vet has been seeing. Grain free scares the crap out of me.
Thank you! Would love to see a review at pet smart or Walmart... we don’t have a Whole Foods in our area
Yes, please!
Great video, don't forget to feed grain free treats. You are absolutely 💯 correct on cheap dog food. So many vets will never recommend grain free.
Another video for dog food and treats, please!
Rodney Habib channel has a detailed review of dog foods also.
Thank you!!!
Thank you!
That picture of you and your dog was gorgeous.
Where was the pic?
Love this video but there has been some controversy the past couple of years surrounding grain free dog food and causing cardio myopathy. Maybe you can recommend some options with grain given that information from the FDA? Thank you!
The best person to ask this question would be to your veterinarian.
The problem with asking your vet is they are going to tell you what they are selling at the time is the best food. Mine sells science diet which I would never give to my dog.
@@justine9980 Any good vet will always recommend what is best for the patient, and that is the majority of us. I am a veterinarian and I stay pretty on top of the recent surrounding diet. The fact is, around 1% of canines have a true grain allergy. There is no benefit to feeding a grain-free diet. Will every dog that is fed a GF diet going to come down with heart disease? Not by a long shot. But what we do know, is that there is a link to Heart Disease (most commonly Dilated Cardiomyopathy) in patients who are on these diets. Recent studies have linked the culprit to legumes, more specifically pea protein that many GF diets are filled with. There are still ongoing studies happening now. But while we are figuring it out exactly, and since there is no BENEFIT, we don't recommend them. Now I don't shame or come down hard on my clients who do choose these diets, I just make them aware of the risks. Most vets do not recommend only what food we are selling. Food sales are our lowest profit margins actually. Hill's is a great company. Do I suggest every patient of mine is fed Hill's? No. I recommend Costco brand (grain-inclusive) to many of my pet parents. We recommend what is best for our patients. The reason we tend to recommend the "evil empire foods" as I like to call them (Hill's, Royal Canin, Eukanuba, Purina ProPlan, Iams) is that these companies have been around forever (for a reason) and they have veterinary nutritionists on staff and do very extensive food trials) That is it. We go where the science is, that's how we were trained. But it is not to get a kickback from any certain food company. Obviously, I cannot speak for every single practicing veterinarian out there, but I can speak to MOST of us.
Thanks Bobby for sharing this video. I have 2 Shih Tzu, and one of them now has to take insulin shots 2x a day, and her vision left all at once. Now her whole diet had to change and imagine the cost. So the other one will be having organic food from now one...great Video
Go raw! You might be able to drop those insulin shots.
@@AmyAndrews19 I have to make some research about what type of raw food can I give her. Thank you for your advise.
Sandra O there are many raw feeding companies out there that make an awesome complete and balanced meal. I fed my girls Darwin’s for the first several months of their life. I am now making it myself.
i love this!!! spent a little more on pet food save huge on vet bill
Bobby do you have a Walmart or HEB pet food video? I usually pick up my pet food at the same grocery store I shop for myself.
