1 1/2 inch counter top is nice and strong! Especially when made with Medium D and High D board. The bench behind you at the 8:50 mark, looks like my workshop everyday! I'm so glad you decided to insulate the shop and put in the heat pump! It has motivated you to rebuild just about everything and projects are good. Great to wake up in the morning with things to keep a guy busy. Quite frankly, with all the squirrel shampoos and grooming I don't know how you've found the time..but I'm glad you did!

But they better be good and clean before they set foot in the shop now baby!! That bench under the window is the next one I'm going to tackle. Hopefully this winter. So there's a heads up for ya. Looking good. My standard now is to double up some MDF for a top, stable and straight. A true craftsman can make a crooked cut to make things straight. Good job Mike. Stevo
Hello there Stevo! I like the 2 layers too. The ranger board top surface, I find, is really good to work off. It doesn't splinter or dent very easily either. I sure had to do some fitting with crooked cuts on this bench top!! LOL Thanks for the visit Stevo and take 'er easy!!

Hey Mike. Well bud, this is exactly how to get a nice, strong, resistant to dammage bench top. I do like to add a well aged hardwood edge/bull nose to help that HDF top from dings and opps moments. I had 4 year old birch available for mine and it has sood up well. I'm envious of all the different hardwoods available to you. I can get maple here but it is over $10 $ a foot 1x6 rough and a 10 sq ft min order, OUCH EH ? Will you be adding 2 sets of 3/4 inch holes for bench dog holes and a front and end wood faced vices ? A set across and along centered to both vices. Lee Valley has the best I have ever used. They come with hardware only. I have You should give this series to the local woodworking school if you have one. From A to Z you leave nothing out and it looks great too. They are incredibly strong. The screw handle boss has withstood a 6 ft snipe with all my weight on the end. I was 200 lbs before the leg came off. Great post once again old friend. Take care eh ole friend !
How's she goin'? Thansk Dean!! You're giving me way to much credit buddy!! Since I use this bench for far more than just wood working, I won't be putting any vise on it. I do have a little wood vise on the bench under the window and that does me for all I need. One time I was looking at Lee Valley vises, and quickly decided not to look too far because the prices were way above my pay grade. Some nice vises thoigh. If I were ever to be series about wood working, I would use Lee Valley as a source for tooling that's for sure. I do have some 1 X 6 rough cut maple. It came from some maple trees that were here by the camp and then Fiona blew them down. My son Derek milled up a couple of the logs for me and I have the wood in the lumber shed curing now. Maybe in a year or so I will have some really nice dry maple for a special project! Thanks for the comments old friend. God bless you and take 'er easy!!
@@GrampiesWorkshop Solid Maple cutting boards are a small fortune here.I made one that is 32 inches long by 14 inches deep. Just the right size for a full deer half. My knives loves it.
@@TomokosEnterprize Maple is a nice wood for sure. I like a wood with a bit more character/color than the maple but for hardness and ease to work with, you can't beat it with a spoon!!!

Hey Mike. Well bud, this is exactly how to get a nice, strong, resistant to dammage bench top. I do like to add a well aged hardwood edge/bull nose to help that HDF top from dings and opps moments. I had 4 year old birch available for mine and it has sood up well. I'm envious of all the different hardwoods available to you. I can get maple here but it is over $10 $ a foot 1x6 rough and a 10 sq ft min order, OUCH EH ?
Will you be adding 2 sets of 3/4 inch holes for bench dog holes and a front and end wood faced vices ? A set across and along centered to both vices. Lee Valley has the best I have ever used. They come with hardware only. I have You should give this series to the local woodworking school if you have one. From A to Z you leave nothing out and it looks great too. They are incredibly strong. The screw handle boss has withstood a 6 ft snipe with all my weight on the end. I was 200 lbs before the leg came off. Great post once again old friend. Take care eh ole friend !
How's she goin'? Thansk Dean!! You're giving me way to much credit buddy!! Since I use this bench for far more than just wood working, I won't be putting any vise on it. I do have a little wood vise on the bench under the window and that does me for all I need. One time I was looking at Lee Valley vises, and quickly decided not to look too far because the prices were way above my pay grade. Some nice vises thoigh. If I were ever to be series about wood working, I would use Lee Valley as a source for tooling that's for sure. I do have some 1 X 6 rough cut maple. It came from some maple trees that were here by the camp and then Fiona blew them down. My son Derek milled up a couple of the logs for me and I have the wood in the lumber shed curing now. Maybe in a year or so I will have some really nice dry maple for a special project! Thanks for the comments old friend. God bless you and take 'er easy!!
@@GrampiesWorkshop Solid Maple cutting boards are a small fortune here.I made one that is 32 inches long by 14 inches deep. Just the right size for a full deer half. My knives loves it.
@@TomokosEnterprize Maple is a nice wood for sure. I like a wood with a bit more character/color than the maple but for hardness and ease to work with, you can't beat it with a spoon!!!

I figure if one top is good, 2 has to be better!! LOL Plus it makes the bench top good and solid so I can hammer on it without hurting it too much. The fronts will be going on the drawers soon, but there is way too much other stiff I need to get done before that happens. Love ya!!
