  • I have made many videos where I passed through Albany, Oregon, but it has been two years since I made a video about Albany. This video makes up for that, exhaustively.
The focus of this video is how downtown Albany has a walkable downtown, with lots of historic building, small local businesses, and also good natural access to the river. But that the rest of the Albany is car-centric, hard to navigate, and generally...not very pretty. Of course, not every part of every city can be a twee wonderland, but walking around Albany got pretty difficult!
This is a long video, but hopefully it lets people see and judge for themselves.

Thanks for the nostalgia...lived here 12 years, and 2 of my kids were born here.

The first time I visited Albany was probably...1989? Or so? I have been around it a long time, but don't have any particular attachments to it, compared to other cities nearby.

@@glowingfish Was there for 12 years and also went to OSU back in the early 2000's and lived in Corvallis. Love that area.

Good tip in Albany.. we don’t always use cross walks and we just walk across the railroad tracks. Lol

That is something that doesn't cause problems, except when it does.

Also the arcade you are remembering from the 90’s was called “tilt” (you probably know that though) 😃

I do remember the Tilt chain, but didn't specifically remember if that was the Heritage Mall one.

I lived in Corvallis at the time, so it was next to being my hometown.

1:14 burgerville has the best of you like them thicker. But they still do have great shakes. Fries aren’t as good as they used to but that might just be me.

1:43 is the best time because makes it harder to film with people around. But I used to live about the furniture store for a few months and across is where they had the old pizza king which we used to go for all birthdays

The Hasty Freeze has some pretty thick milkshakes! Sometimes too thick, it won't get through the straw. I have eaten a lot of Burgerville food over the years. Funnily enough, when I was a child, it was the cheapest fast food. The modern Burgerville is great...but it is more expensive than a lot of sit-down restaurants.

Nice walk through Albany. I like the downtown and I just love to go into the old libraries in communities. They have a homey comforting feeling to them. Yes I agree much of Albany is really only accessible by vehicle, but thankfully one can walk to some of its business areas. When you go to the various communities to film, has there ever been a time when the bus or train didn't show up? That would worry me especially if it was the last bus or train of the day.

I am often a little bit worried about it! I usually schedule it so that I am not taking the last transportation of the day. But yes, I do worry about it---but at worst, I would have to get a motel.

I have lived in Albany for 11 years now. I lived in different cities in Oregon most of my life. I love love love Oregon and I love Albany. The bus system isn’t good, because it’s a smaller town but if your a senior call a ride works ok on till around 5 or 6 pm on the week days.

@@janetlanders8220 This might be a different perspective for me, but I don't think Albany is a "smaller town", to me Albany is a city, just a small city. I have lived on the Oregon Coast and in Montana, so to me a "small town" is less than 1000 people.

We need to meet up one day and chat in person about RUclips. Maybe ever work together once to see if it works.

Yeah, Albany is actually pretty big and diverse. One thing about my videos is that I want to give a general overview of what a town is like, but sometimes while doing that I have to generalize. Hopefully I am not generalizing too much.
