This channel focuses on travel, both local travel and longer distance travel. It also includes bits and bobs of things that interest me, including small art projects.
Missoula to Portland Planes Trains and Automobiles
Another travelogue video, showing an airplane flight from Missoula to Portland, and then showing the Portland MAX line from the airport to Beaverton. I think the interesting thing about this trip was the mixture of fast and slow, and I hope this video helps show what the pacing of a trip like this is like.

View of the Bitterroot Mountains Time Lapse

This time lapse was taken from a fixed point in my front yard, every day, from May to October of 2024. I tried to get the same location, but it was hard, so it is not as smooth as I would like it to be. I also tried to get every day, but at times my picture was corrupted, or I was somewhere else. All of these pictures were taken around noon, with a few exceptions. This isn't a scientific thing,...
Building Construction Timelapse

This is a time lapse of a garage being built next to my house. Try as I might, I didn't quite get the angle and positioning consistent. I actually used more "frenetic" music (Trauma by N'Go) because it worked with the jerkiness more. Hopefully this teaches us a thing about construction, or is at least fun to watch. Each frame is 750 milliseconds long, and since this is 80 seconds, this took pla...

Skalkaho Highway: I Dont Go To a Forest Fire October 9 2024
Просмотров 663День назад
With time running out both in the season and in my time in Montana, I decided to check back in on the Skalkaho Highway... and found that despite it being well into October, the smoldering fire in the area has grown and was spreading! I actually do something stupid and bad in this video, which is second guess a "road closed" sign. I am not proud of that, but wanted to show what I did.

Skalkaho Bend Park and the Bitterroot River in Late Summer
I just drove through Beaverton last week on that same Hall Blvd., had no idea such a quiet oasis existed right there among the noisy urban clamor.
There is a lot of stuff here when we know how to look! A lot of my videos are about looking at hidden treasures!
So easy to fall in love with Autumn 🍂
It's a short love affair, and unrequited.
Like the Time Machine
It is an interesting idea for a video, I wish I would have pulled it off better...
@@glowingfish you did a good job
@@ilovetoexploreoregon206 Thank you, I try.
That was SO beautiful, amazing views of the colorful leaves and the creek!!! I've been meaning to get down there, lol, you saved me the trip, thanks. :)
Well, don't let my video discourage you from actually seeing it in person! It is nice!
@@glowingfish Thanks, I think I'm going to get down there next weekend, if it's decent weather!
Looks like a great hike
It was pretty good! Of course, I think all hikes are good hikes!
@@glowingfish me too
My guess is the Forest Service hasn't updated the Forest closure based on changing conditions yet. You can always check inciweb.wildfire.gov/ for the latest.
We have some fire 🔥 over here too
It's getting too late in the year for it.
Nice man, you are!!
I try to be!
You don’t want to bike to Pinesdale 😂 and yes, Corvallis has an actual pharmacy and it’s fantastic
I actually do want to bike to Pinesdale. Just not as much as I want to bike other places.
It's beautiful 😍
It really is! Sometimes things are most beautiful when they are a little sad.
XD only hearing snippets of our conversation you'd have no idea what we're talking about lol
That is the mystery!
@@glowingfish good luck to anyone who tries to figure it out.
@@Donika691 Maybe it will become a viral video as people try to figure out what is going on.

I live in Montes de Oca, 10 minutes from Capital, San Jose and the last time I visited Limon downtown I felt dehydrated, I had to return by bus at 3:00 pm, I was really feeling bad. High temperatures affected me.
I also lived in Montes de Oca when I was in Costa Rica, and since I am from a cool part of the United States, it was hard when I visited the coasts. I finally discovered that I preferred Cartago because it was much cooler.
I lived in Hamilton in the 1980s/1990s, never heard of this.
I worked at Apple Day in 2011, so I know it is at least a decade old. Don't know how much past then! It also might have been celebrated in a different place/different way before then. Since it is on the site of the farmer's market, it might have only started after the Hamilton Farmer's Market started.
Apple 🍎 day looks like a party 🎉
It was quite a party! It actually got a bit claustrophobic, so I headed out. But it was quite a party.
Happy Apple 🍎 Day
so dry and desolate
When I first came here from a background in the Willamette Valley, it did seem stark--- all those bare cobbles, when in the Willamette Valley they would be covered in a tangle of plants. But after a while, my perspective changed. Now when I go back to climes like that, everything seems neon green, especially in winter!
Nice! Thank you!
You are very welcome!
Lol, I live about 6 or 8 blocks from the entrance to River Park! Beautiful video! Enjoy Costa Rica! I wish you could make us a few videos from there. God bless.
I will be making lots of videos!
That’s Isabeau she was here in Oregon a few weeks ago I told her to fly over and say hi to you If you get the reference from her name the you get bonus points
Is that from the Bjork song? :)
@@glowingfish I don’t know that song It’s from a late 80’s fantasy movie called Ladyhawke About a woman who was a hawk by day and a woman by night She falls in love with a man who is a wolf at night and a man by day
@@ilovetoexploreoregon206 Ohhhhhh yeah I know that movie, and they have to wait for an eclipse to finally meet?

Ok 4th generation Bitterrooter here. We have no box stores as Kmart finally died a few years ago. That “impressive building you mentioned is the old Marcus Daly hospital. Marcus Daly was the Copper King and founded my hometown. My mother was born in that old hospital that now houses many of our local government agencies. This has to be one of the worst tours of Hamilton ever. We are more than a bunch of dumb hicks and just because many of us don’t live “in town” doesn’t mean we aren’t a community
I am trying to think of where I said the word "dumb hicks" in this video? Can you give me a time stamp for that?
Also, feel free to make your own videos and put them on RUclips. If you want to share your own experiences, it is really easy to make a video and put it on RUclips.
I am planning a trip to northern California but am concerned about the beaches. I know better than to get into the water because it's too cold, but lately I've been seeing videos that you shouldn't even walk along the shore because of surprise waves. Any feedback on this?
It is best to be cautious, but of course, many people walk on the shore...but when I am walking on the shore, I always keep one eye on the water. And I avoid letting the water even run up and touch my ankles. Like if the water is even getting close to my feet, that is too close for me! Of course, you can see from other videos that I've made in Northern California/Oregon that other people do get closer to the water...but I feel "better safe than sorry".
@@glowingfish Thank you for replying to me. I live in a state where there is no ocean, so I am not familiar period, much less with an ocean like this.
@@StaciPS Yeah the Pacific Ocean is pretty wild! But I am always careful around water.
@@glowingfish Thank you for your reply. I am so glad I got some feedback. I will be careful.
:( man, the bridge at that time was so messed up from dumb kids. they've been getting it cleaned up since this jamboree
You mean, when I made this video? I don't remember the bridge looking bad...maybe I should go back and rewatch it...
I just rewatched...looks like I didn't include any footage from inside the bridge! Huh, I don't remember what it looked like.
Hi 👋, nice capture!!!! Love it!
Thank you! Getting footage like this is a challenge, so it is fun when it turns out right.
Oh the bike rides I would take you on throughout the Bitterroot Valley, Hamilton & Ravalli County would blow both our minds I think. The stories I know (some scandalous) & the local goings-on I've detailed since the late 1970's could most definitely be a best seller Matthew. Living back in Hamilton through your lens has been a real treat today I can't wait to continue on through your catalog. I am blessed to have come across your page. Thank you!
That is one reason I started making videos---I had so many great memories of all the places I've lived and trips I've taken, and I loved looking at photos from a decade ago. Then I realized I might as well make videos and not just photos---there are so many places that I would have loved to have videos of. I've only been in the Bitterroot since March this time (lived here from 2009-2015), and if you look back it is Costa Rica and then the Pacific Coast. Pretty much weekly for the past four years.
When I was here in 2009-2015, I bicycled as far north as Lolo, as far south as Connor, and all the way to the top of Skalkaho Pass. I wish I had records of all those times!
❤
Love your videos Matthew. Please #KeepemComing & thank you for what you do. I greatly appreciate it on a personal level as I grew up in Hamilton & miss it deeply. It will ALWAYS be my home. God bless.
There will be a lot more videos! Of many different places.
What scratched that tree??
That is a great question! There are many bears here (I have a video of one) but I think this tree is just cracking after fire damage but I'm not sure.
Looks like a good place to look for pretty rocks 🪨
It probably is...I don't know what type of rocks are specifically in the Bitterroot River though.
Yes. Beautiful 😍
So beautiful 😻
Cool 😎
It was a good surprise!
Great 👍 move, Matthew ❤
I think so too!
Hi 👋, Matthew. Thanks for the views!
And thank you for watching! :)
Cool.
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for the video! Hamilton was started in 1890. Grantsdale was here before Hamilton. The house I live in was built in 1886 from what I could find out. The building at 9:35 was the hospital lots of years ago.
I would have liked to make a video that covered the history of the area more, but that of course is a lot more work! As I understand it, for example, Grantsdale and Hamilton were basically founded by rival barons and Hamilton eventually won out. But a lot of those things I "know" are actually legends that I learned over 20 years ago, so sifting out truth from fiction would take a long time. But anyway, I am glad you liked this video. I have others of different places in the Bitterroot Valley.
Thanks for the video!! I don't know if you know this but the 1894 brooks house is an old Sears and Roebucks house.
There are a lot of things I used to know but have probably forgotten about history here. Some of which are questionably true. For example, there is a house in Hamilton reputedly designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, but I don't know if that is true.
Guy needs to learn how to yoink.
I think that is new slang I don't know about. Is that anything like being yeeted?
I learned from my kids that "yeeted" means tossed, and "yoink" means yank or grab. 😊 @glowingfish
@@MarkEtnire Well, no yeeting or yoinking for this little guy!
Calling it “honey” is so wholesome 🥰

Thank you for this very nice nature tour!!❤
You are welcome!
Moved here 6 years ago. It’s progressively gotten worse. Crime, drugs, homelessness, the SAC-a-shit program, California liberals, and some of the most stuck beyotches who can’t drive for shit ever. Predatory policing for revenue vs. fighting crime and protect and serve. It’s a weird mix of Hawthorn Hippies, wanna be West Linn and Lake O knock offs, and Estacada in breeders. I know people up at the hospital and drug over doses are super common. Human shit up at the park in plain sight like crazy this year. Pollution, garbage, weird fucking neighbors. We are now looking to move even further out.
Good catch!
Yep, of course its not the best video, but most wildlife encounters are like that...I actually have a fox video from the same general location, and its basically like three seconds of bushy tail to let you know it is there!
@glowingfish The same happens to me. With wildlife they're gone so quick that by the time I can pull up my camera on my phone it's gone
Yeah, I was lucky to have my camera in my bag and be good at quick draw. But I think it actually works better, seeing a clip like this, then a perfectly narrated, steady shot.
Magnificent views!!! Thank you for sharing this.
Do you hear of hikers encountering bears in this area, or is that relatively rare?
Many hikers encounter bears in the mountains, but the only bear I've seen was on my street. If you haven't seen that video yet, you might find it interesting!
