  • The house at Rose Hill has fascinated local people for many years. Demolished in the 1970s, its story has been researched and told many times. But there is always more to learn.

I can remember this house as a ruin in the early/mid seventies. It was burnt out and dangerous but did`nt stop a gang of lads playing inside. Rumour had it that a pair of witches lived inside, but they were just a couple of old ladies. I remember the garden was very overgrown and the house surrounded by trees - very spooky to look at!. One of the old ladies died and moved to a small cottage behind the main house. The main house had become unlivable as it was falling apart. I was an bird egg collector at the time and the remaining old lady gave me permission to look in her garden. Thanks for the video,it brought back many memories.

As someone who, born in ‘64, played in around the area as a child and a youth, I’m very grateful to you for this little film.
It took me back, and gave me further knowledge of it, even though I don’t really know why it fascinates me so.

I remember the ruins of the old house very well and could honestly say found it quite spooky especially when it got dark this was during the mid 1970s when me and my mates use too play around in the grove on our bikes, it was very nearby for me as I lived in briar road. Thanks for a very interesting video.

I was 11 when we moved from London to Sittingbourne in 1965. The house grounds were overgrown. Used to play in the groves a lot and there was a rumour amongst us kids that the house was occupied by an old woman who had a mad daughter that she kept locked up in it and that if you went to close she would brandish a shotgun at you.
