Arrowhead clearly had in mind to deliver a fun game at the sacrifice of cutting edge graphics due in part that focusing on graphics would take away from the quality of gameplay. When you're caught up in an intense gunfight, you're not going to stop and look at all the nuanced graphical fidelity. They allowed just enough for us marvel at the style but knew that gameplay was at its core--a sort of diminishing return.
funny thing is I actually love the graphics literally in the middle of the fights especially particles and bullets flying in every direction. their particle rendering and physics is top notch at high resolution
Given the fact that Helldiver's 1 was a bit of a forgotten sleeper, and that it released 7 years ago, with no other games from the developer in between and only a modest catalogue of other titles behind them, it's pretty incredible that the studio didn't shutter and actually produced something THIS good and popular. I can easily understand why they didn't think they would get this kind of reaction from players, and so were a little unprepared with their servers day 1, which unfortunately seemed to mar their first reviews, but they quickly got that under control and the game has been enormously enjoyable since then. This is a developer who rediscovered the formula for putting the "fun" aspect of videogames front and center, and I'm enormously thankful for them doing that. They earned the money I spent to play this game, and that's not something I've been able to say about a game since Elden Ring. Well done Arrowhead, well done.
Too bad the game runs like Hot Garbage on PS , been trying too login won’t let me , says servers are at capacity, this is total joke . When I do get in the game it crashes 50% of the time . This game is turning into Battlefield 2042 fast hope it doesn’t take a year or more too fix all the problems now on PlayStation.
I think the simulation in this game is just in sane. You can plant mines on one end of the map, and going to the other end, you can hear the mines go off as enemy patrols are walking over it. In MOST other games, such a distance away on the map wouldn't even be rendered or have any mobs spawning in. This game however, does, which is so fucking immersive.
out of all the reasons to love this game this is the weakest one I've heard of - the maps are relatively small, persistance across it for a 40 minute match is really not surprising
Battlefield was doing this in 2005 and in fallout 4 npc's and other dynamic items never despawn, you can see npc's walking to any objective or their home instead of teleporting there.
I am surprised by how heavily overlooked FSR is in the console space. Need upscaling? Just use FSR2. Hitting 60 fps? Add FSR3 and offer a "120 fps" mode. Waow.
I'm loving this game, but the PC performance is very poor. My 4090 + 5800x3d are struggling to keep 80-90fps at native high/ultra settings 3440x1440 on higher difficulties. The game's upscaler is frankly unusable and results in a blurry mess. Fingers crossed that actual DLSS is added soon.
I have a 4090 and at 4K max settings I’m always at 100fps but I use intel 14th gen and using the upscaler there’s multiple versions to play with I was hitting 160fps
You're cpu bound. I've done a benchmark of my 4090 with a 7800X3D at that same resolution. Should get around 130 and still I'm hitting some CPU limitations. Some planets can also be a bit more demanding as well like the forest mech planet
cpu bottleneck, im at ultra 3440x1440 on 4080+13700k and getting 90fps lol we have basically the same settings but your much faster gpu is limited by your slower cpu
yup, im on a very overclocked 7700xt (beating 3080 stock in benches) and im at 60 to 90 depending on mission, 1080p Ultra textures, medium everything else. 2077 runs better (with RT off) shame, maybe the new AMD driver today will do some work but i doubt it.
I've heard vehicles, mechs were planned, one can EASILY imagine them adding the third enemy type the "illuminate' from the first game if not more if they liked. The reason I say "were" planned is not because they're not happening. But that the Devs have said their roadmap for where they wanted to take the game is already massively outdated comared to their vision of what they want to do. Because neither they nor Sony had any idea it was going to blow up like it did, pun intended. So you might just get your wish. But they've said for now they're just focusing on getting everything that is there stable and working so that this weekend their servers will be up to the task 💪
As a Mass Effect 3 player, this game is exactly that game, but instead of narrative driven, it's player driven in real time, meaning we can win/lose territories which makes it more fun
FSR2, Xess, and DLSS are needed I also feel a stronger AO would fit the feel better. AO is older tech but it can give a gritty and grounded feeling to objects.

its heavily CPU bound, just like every PS5 port seems to be these days (more than likely due to nvme caching on PS5) while on PC we dont have game support for this yet so its all being thrown CPU side.
Sometimes when you are running to the next objective, you get a view with the nearby moon/planet in the sky, moon shining through the trees, green haze on the surface, smoke off in the distance. It's fucking beautiful. Art style over graphical fidelity any day IMO
This is by far the most fun I've had with any multiplayer shooter in at LEAST a decade, maybe ever. It's truly a gem! I'm loving it on PS5 (bought a physical copy), but it looks like it's a joy on PC as well.
I'm really disappointed that DF seemingly only tested at difficulty level 1-3. The higher level difficulties and automatons tank fps and cpu performance. My brother in law plays on a ps5 and that thing probably hovers in the low 40's.
Yea, came here to say the exact same thing, there are a lot about this game that i've recently been disappointed about, the recent "bait and switch" incident just made me all the more annoyed about the poor optimization.
@@Hyf5 What bait and switch? The psn linking? Don't just believe everything you hear. Arrowhead themselves said it was their fault, as it was they who asked Sony not to enable psn linking at launch as it wasn't working properly. The fact that it was sold on steam in those regions wasn't okay, but as this is Sonys first live service game on steam I'd say it can be chalked up to a mistake. Why would they sell it to people who can't play it? Thats obviously not going to end well so it doesn't take a genius to realise this was all a big mistake.
Framerate on pc is really not high enough for this level of visual quality. It desperately needs some proper upscaling. The built in resolution scaling looks so aliased and blurry with a lot of shimmering.
Its crazy how large the leap the dev made for this sequel from the genre change to graphical fidelity all from a 100 person team Then to top it off its a online shooter with a cheaper asking price then industry standard and isnt broken out of the gate..........good job Arrowhead
@@anthonytorres7235 I think the connection issues are more due to the demand then actual bad optimization, I think the player count is far higher than Arrowhead anticipated the best kind of problem to have for a dev ironically When I logged in earlier It said the game was full and had to retry twice before I could get in.......think they were going to have to expand their servers
People are so ridiculous lol, if you weren't told about it you'd probably rarely notice the frame rate in-game, otherwise why watch this video at all if you can tell yourself why the framerate is? Playing on ps5 performance mode I rarely notice dips, and I play exclusively on 7+ dif but I do hope there's a ps5pro coming soon
So the real joy of this game is the community. I joined a random group near the release of the game and we’ve now played until we are all mid to high level 20s. We’ve gotten close and even want to meet up in real life despite living in different countries!! I love this game!!!
I was hoping to see performance tested in higher difficulty, more enemy dense settings than MEDIUM difficulty. There are literally 6 difficulties higher than this. With 4 players online just on difficulty 4, the framerate tanked pretty badly for me on ps5 performance mode. I feel DF should have explored these variables more…..
Yeah I was really looking forward to the video of this game, but once I heard Oliver's voice I knew it would be like that. He easily does the worst job out of everyone at DF, doesn't really know what he's talking about most of the time either. Not trying to hate on him, his coverage is just not up to their usual standard in most videos.
I think we are starting to see the limitations of the PS5 console here.. There seems to big a big disparaging gap between performance mode and quality mode in visual clarity in both Helldivers 2 and FF7 Re'birth
In ff7 the developers already said that they would fix the resolution in performance mode, they would even include a certain improvement in the current demo and in helldiver 2 they are talking about an improvement patch for the graphics even in a balanced mode at 40fps as happens in other games ps5.
It’s a disappointing generation.. or decent graphics but 30 fps.. (hello ps3 days..) or not so great looking games on performance mode (with some exceptions) im quite disappointed this generation! I think they did a way better job on the ps4 knowing its limitations.
I LOOOOOVE this game! On top of everything here the planets/moons all have a day/night cycle on them that is global. From the mission terminal you can see each planets rotation relative to this and plan accordingly as well. It's quite awesome how 1 to 1 this is for everyone online. Which to me is crazy how well that syncs up with everyone. From a gameplay systems standpoint with stuff like that all working together is what makes this game so much damn fun to play. Matchmaking/joining people issues aside this is the most fun I've had in a game like this in a LONG time. The gameplay and procedurally generated planets/objectives make this game so great. No missions ever feel the same with different layouts and planet positions. Even when dropping to surfaces in the pods the planets in the background and other effects all match up. They went pretty hard on thinking of everything in regards to the details of the world they gave us for such an immersive experience. Then there's the planet/moon specific weather effects and events that move in and out of areas on planets as well. When on certain planets with the lighting, fog, effects, enemy created spores that cause more haze/fog as well I'll say that no other game has been this atmospheric in feel that's for sure. Then take into account that's only the places we've been so far. There's like 100 planets/moons to visit in the game at least if not more. Can't wait to see what else is in store for this game as it evolves. They're already adding player piloted mechs soon. They've just expanded their team quite a bit to ramp up what they have planned for the future beyond that. This will be a fun game for many years to come!
Damn this is the first time a df video seems to not get it all right or considered. Noticing the difficulty you're playing on when you did frame rate tests, you wouldn't know that there are definitely dips into 40-30 fps when things get crazy on max difficulty
I'm in the same boat - i9-13900k/RTX 4090. Can sometimes get through matches solo but crash almost every time I play with other people. It's sad seeing crashes being mentioned less and less - starting to feel like I've got some random weird outlier in my configuration that's not going to get fixed.
The game definitely would benefit from DLSS and framegen. Seems perfectly plausible for this engine seeing as how Warhammer 40K: Darktide has both, and ray tracing.
Frankly the game runs like shit. Mid range systems struggling to hit decent frame rates without that blurry ass upscaling tech. I play ultra at 1440p and thought the game looked like hot garbage and refunded it on steam.
Not sure how long it will be up, but an fyi for anyone playing that there is an event going on right now that boosts XP and Requisition totals by 50 percent.
I'm surprised Oliver missed the much higher quality ambient occlusion on the PC version at higher settings compared to the PS5 version. Other analysis on RUclips do show this.
fsr 1 should be banned from gaming, what a disgrace... they don't even try to go fsr2... and we have fsr3... omg. ue4 shaders on PC should be precompiled at start... all PC ue4 games stutter ffs
Why all these console vs PC comparisons are with a 4090?....2-3% of players have such a rig, I just don't get it. These comparisons should be with much more medium end rigs where the vast majority of players play. 4090....of course, 4k and 100fps, what a surprise...

@@blindfire3167that would be boring and to easy if you could just kill everything with your primary weapon, but i see what you mean
@@Jacob9815 Well I mean more situational, like how a shotgun should be good at killing one type of bug or machine, the AR would be good at another, and so on. It's not easy to do, but possible. I just hate that certain bugs like the heavy spitters and ESPECIALLY chargers it feels completely useless to even shoot at them instead of saving your strategems for those specifically. The chargers with less than 3 people feel like they require half the ammo given of the first shotgun to just kill one.
what makes it creative? compared to lets say GTA5 (2015), Division 2 (2019) and EDF 4.1 (2016)?

Arrowhead clearly had in mind to deliver a fun game at the sacrifice of cutting edge graphics due in part that focusing on graphics would take away from the quality of gameplay. When you're caught up in an intense gunfight, you're not going to stop and look at all the nuanced graphical fidelity. They allowed just enough for us marvel at the style but knew that gameplay was at its core--a sort of diminishing return.

@@BuckeyeBlood I'm not saying the game looks bad, not even close to it. The artists and art directors though are the real deal on Helldivers2 imo

This is the online multiplayer game that we needed
After playing the tutorial I knew I would rule in the game, the general loved me and showered me with compliments!! Feel so special!!! 😁😉
And he's not easily impressed either. Very impressive!
The physics interaction and enemy gibbing is beautiful
out of all the reasons to love this game this is the weakest one I've heard of - the maps are relatively small, persistance across it for a 40 minute match is really not surprising
Battlefield, hunt showdown and many other games have that. lol
That's not "simulation"
DLSS won't help if you are CPU-limited, which you are most likely. Framegen would help though.
"Get some, get sooooome!"
If this game starts adding even more things to do, this is going to probably be one of my favorite games of all time.
It's pretty barebones right now 😢
It's already one of my top 3 co-op games. I'm done with pvp and I would put this game ahead of most of those too.
As a Mass Effect 3 player, this game is exactly that game, but instead of narrative driven, it's player driven in real time, meaning we can win/lose territories which makes it more fun
FSR2, Xess, and DLSS are needed
I also feel a stronger AO would fit the feel better. AO is older tech but it can give a gritty and grounded feeling to objects.
It’s already there I’m running it at 4K 165

Really? I’ve got a Steam Deck.
@@citizen3000 yup dude, here are the settings for 30 fps with nice looking visuals:
Display: 1280x800, render scale ultra quality, full screen, vsync off
Graphics: texture quality medium, object detail low, render dist high, shadow low, particle medium, reflection lowest, space low, ambiant occlusion off, ssgi off, vegetation rubble density medium, terrain medium, fog lowest, cloud lowest, lighting low, AA on
Then just slap “gamepad with mouse trackpad” template in steam as a controller, go back into the game and set in the controller options, look sensitivity at 5.0 , vertical multiplier 0.60, aim 0.50, scope 0.50 and this should give you a pretty good base. From there on if you want more or less sensitivity set it up in the steam controller trackpad section.

Helldivers 2 is AWESOME!
not very good optimization to be honest
Game feels like early access, but a lot of potential
This game gives me some Red Faction Guerrilla / Armageddon vibes
Yes, it's like a co op awesome version of Red Faction
I really miss Red Faction, that environment destruction is sorely needed in today's gaming landscape. The Finals and Teardown have done admirably on that front, but they continue to be the exception. The power of these consoles is being squandered for graphics instead of gameplay
Such an awesome and addicting game
The 2 times a day you can actually get into a game😑
I have to ask for PC on a 4090 youd think it would be blown to shreads with a card like that, does one have to ask are PC games really shite ports for the power the hardware you can get on PC are clearly held back with consoles
Shoumd it have been delayed on PC fot a month to get it working on amd hardware better
its heavily CPU bound, just like every PS5 port seems to be these days (more than likely due to nvme caching on PS5) while on PC we dont have game support for this yet so its all being thrown CPU side.
Why do new games not come with the latest version of FSR? Is it harder to implement this tech than it seems?
Can we get an update review on this where you actually play the game at anything above level 5 difficulty? The performance is horrendously bad.
Sometimes when you are running to the next objective, you get a view with the nearby moon/planet in the sky, moon shining through the trees, green haze on the surface, smoke off in the distance. It's fucking beautiful. Art style over graphical fidelity any day IMO
I would argue that is graphical fidelity and not art style.
This is by far the most fun I've had with any multiplayer shooter in at LEAST a decade, maybe ever. It's truly a gem! I'm loving it on PS5 (bought a physical copy), but it looks like it's a joy on PC as well.

Democracy is not going to spread by itself. Do your part!
Framerate on pc is really not high enough for this level of visual quality. It desperately needs some proper upscaling. The built in resolution scaling looks so aliased and blurry with a lot of shimmering.

Performance mode is so gross. They’re lucky the game is fun otherwise I would’ve stopped playing just for that factor.
So nobody talks about the PC version getting a kernel-spyware cheap anti-cheat ?
Yeah, this needs more coverage.
aside some small fps drops it runs GREAT on ps5 and its beautiful great game
Tons of fun, but why isn't there a frame rate cap on PC?
I was hoping to see performance tested in higher difficulty, more enemy dense settings than MEDIUM difficulty. There are literally 6 difficulties higher than this. With 4 players online just on difficulty 4, the framerate tanked pretty badly for me on ps5 performance mode. I feel DF should have explored these variables more…..
Yeah I was really looking forward to the video of this game, but once I heard Oliver's voice I knew it would be like that. He easily does the worst job out of everyone at DF, doesn't really know what he's talking about most of the time either. Not trying to hate on him, his coverage is just not up to their usual standard in most videos.
they were extremely lazy this time, seems like nobody wanted to cover this
Why no discussion about the DRM/Anti-cheat nprotect gameguard? It's a root kit.

Nowadays, it is difficult to accept games that do not support DLSS/FSR2
