Yes. Some scanning electron microscopes come with a nanomanipulator (a needle essentially that can be moved precisely) that could be used to poke graphene. At the same time you scan the images with SEM and watch almost in real time what happens to graphene as you stretch it.
It’s been in the food and water supply for decades. It won’t hurt you. It’s the intentions behind something that should be concerning. So, figure out the intentions. Graphene is pretty awesome. For graphene? I think the most interesting application is possibly a nerve-sensor interface at a prosthetic eye. But then again I've not been developing it myself so I don't know if it is just hype or something real. Anyhow, that application benefits from the chemical resistance and conductivity of graphene.
love the videos and would be great to see some wholefoods under the scope, like avocado, strawberry , berries etc, organic samples would be best, we could look at the difference between commercial and organic, thats what people would love to see, can you do foods guys ?
Hello and thank you for the question. This certainly sounds like a topic for the future but organic samples can be troublesome for studying under a scanning electron microscope. They have to be dried to be suitable for vacuum and also made conductive by applying a thin platinum film on them. If the samples don't change their appearance during this process, then they might be interesting to study. Meanwhile you can check out our older video about salt and sugar under the scanning electron microscope ;)

It depends on the size of graphene particles and how it entered into the body. Small particles (less than 10 nm in diameter) would be removed rather quickly on their own when you go to the toilet.
@@John-ek5bq Well, graphene is chemically resistant and this makes it a bioinert material as it doesn't interact with the body. So it may simply accumulate like other bioinert materials and if the quantities are low, then it hardly matters. But then again, the long-term effect of graphene on the body is being certainly studied to minimize risks. Currently, the biggest danger lies in daily working with graphene like substances and inhaling it, which causes it to accumulate in the lungs and cause problems like with other fine dust like materials. But then again this isn't really comparable with short term exposure to a small quantity.
@@CaptainCorrosion Hi! Thanks for your opinion, however, this material is toxic to the cells. ruclips.net/video/_kAevCpFNW0/видео.html Do you know chemistry? Does it have a negative charge or a positive charge? Can it be taken out with a binder maybe?
@@John-ek5bq The thing is that there are countless versions of graphene-like compounds, that are developed for various applications, where the properties of graphene are modified accordingly. There are lots of scientific papers on that topic and I highly recommend reading those. Videos on RUclips are often biased and can mislead one in a really bad way, especially in the case of sensitive topics. Surely it is possible to give graphene toxic properties, which may be great for instance when developing antibacterial coatings. However, it is also possible to give graphene other beneficial properties and take advantage of its bioinert nature. Such research is done intensively on a daily basis, which results in countless of papers. Only ones specialized in the field can dig through the data and have necessary expertise and infrastructure to put it to good use. One of the main issues with graphene is the fact that its name is used to describe a very broad range of materials which may differ dramatically from each other. In any case, if you modify the chemically inert graphene-like substance with something else to make it more active in a specific process, then that modifier ultimately gets depleted or contaminated, which renders the particle again bioinert.

@@bartoszbarejko1585 Figured you were talking about graphite xD That material has been studied and used in many applications for a long time already. Graphene on the other hand is a completely different story as the technology to study and manipulate it didn't even exist few decades ago. Therefore, the most recent and advanced developments on graphene-based technologies have been possible only in the last decade or so.
