I'll never forget all the great times I had at Pontchartrain Beach in 1981, 1982, and 1983. Just being in the area emanates eternal nostalgia for me. It's forever a part of my childhood and my life. I was too small to ride the Zephyr Roller Coaster but I was allowed to ride the Ragin Cajun.
Wonderful memoires of a simpler and happier time.
I went in the 70's and early 80's. It was the best park ever. It got sold to some guy who wanted to make condominiums there which turned out to be a scam. It went undeveloped for ages until UNO built a building there. I also heard that rising admissions prices and the new popularity of home video games kept more kids at home rather than going out to the park. I'm just grateful that like many others i got to experience the magic of being there, and saw it for myself. I'll always miss it.
It's a damn shame they closed down this legendary amusement park. I loved going there whenever I visited my family in New Orleans and I made sure I got on rides like the Zephyr, the log ride and the bumper cars.

I miss the place. We went every year and had great times and many memories were made.ITs a shame it had to go
You really see some of the old rides in that last commercial, it was apparently made in 1966.

I remember going in 1962 to 1965. There was a version of the song that went Pontchartrain Beach, Pontchartrain Beach, bring your BB gun, watch all the...run, at Pontchartrain Beach.
I used to live in walking distance to that beach. It was even free to enter then.
I remembered this place from 1981
Does anyone remember the kiddy ride called " The Smokie Mary " ? .It was a train ride for kids .
I remember all of these but the last one. "Get it ALL together there."

I went there in 1981 or 82, but they didn't have hardly any of the rides shown in this film.

They closed because of pollution concerns in the lake & customer decrease after segregation ended. Ignore the race baiting comments by ignorant racists, who ironically never have anything to say when whites do mass-shootings.
The upcoming 1984 World's Fair (which ran from May to November) had a lot to do with the decision to close PB and sell the property.

@@rottenapples3 they tried to have a 6 Flags in the ghetto & marsh of New Orleans East. Well that brought the animals from both places. Hurricane Katrina finished off what was already doomed. I went a few times & it was ghetto . most rides didn't function & neither did the workers
