Getting caught by the wife is way worse than a student being caught by a teacher. Especially a ball-busting wife who will emasculate you like Carolyn did with Lester.
My goal is to one day have 1/4 of the amount of confidence that Ricky has in this movie. To be able to just introduce myself to my new middle-aged next door neighbor during a crowded business function and then asking them if they want to go get high outside.
I often cringe at the way movies portray weed, it’s always exaggerated and pretentious. This movie, however, did it PERFECTLY. As a stoner, I can relate to this so well. Even little details like the smile on Ricky’s face when Lester loses it. Ricky, being the experienced smoker, can just maintain composure while the other dude is just laughing his ass off. Brilliantly done

I remember watching this movie when it first came out, working in a video store when I was 17. It's still one of my all time favorites. It opened my mind to a whole new way of thinking. Absolutely fantastic flick.
The framing of the scene actually is a very strong metaphor. When the two guys are smoking pot outside, it shows the temporary escape for Lester from his own boring and stressed daily life represented by the building with a small door. He then reluctantly obliges to his wife's order to return to the building, showing his return to the routines that he resented so much. Just terrific.

Ethan Diffey you don't get it. He is saying Ghost Rider is a horrible movie and very forgettable, so when they see the Ricky Fits actor in another movie, no one will ever say that is the bad guy from Ghost Rider.

People used to say I looked like Wes Bentley when this movie came out. I was 19, in college and was blown away bybthe film. Now I am almost Lesters age and watching clips of this great flick on RUclips. I can sort of relate to both characters. Great scene.
I remember going to this movie and enjoying it thoroughly. To me Kevin Spacey is the best actor in the world and he absolutely nailed this role. An absolute classic film right down to the music score.
I love how Ricky was just trying to get it in good with their daughter. I mean that was his soul purpose. And his reasoning being that he was just curious about her and that he found her interesting. I think that (plus he's looks) is what's so appealing about him. Makes me wonder if when he no longer finds her interesting, would he just leave her? He seems to have a pretty cold side... though I think that side of him can be explained by his 18 year relationship with his father.
Poor Lester and poor Christy, they both seem so uncomfortable being there for similar reasons. She and Lester are keeping up appearances, while she is going through a divorce and Lester is just is sad at what his life has become. Such a deep and powerful scene filled with subtext we don't even find out till later in the film when it all makes sense. This is why its such an amazing film and ironically both actors were in L.A. Confidential.
This won 5 oscars including best picture and best actor and screenplay and director, and is frequently regarded as a classic, and it's an American movie so why wasn't this included in AFI's list of the 100 greatest American films?
Annette Benning, I forgot how talented she is. Just love to hate her character in this movie! The way she pops out of that door wearing that ridiculous hairstyle, and the way the director lighted her...amazing!

In my eyes, he was the hero of this movie, and seeing such a refreshing presentation of people with his psychology makes my day.
