Variac is used for when turning on old tube electronics' You lower the voltage on you powerline to about half the power first & slowly upping the voltage as the old electronics warm up, If you use full power on old electronics that have been sitting around for years at full power they can burn up Capacitors & even the transformers, Those Variac's are worth a lot to repair guys & Hi Fi Geeks
I stripped 3000 hard drives down to bear aluminum over the weekend , Because its mainly what I get dropped off , Have another 400 coming today , I.m disabled so cant get around to go pick things up .
Awesome video Ben, you know, we do love these random scrapping vids of yours. I myself really enjoy, when you do repetative scraps, it is just kinna satisfing to watch you achive a difference. I also enjoyed your cutting plugs video :D I kinna wish, you could use something like a foot powered cutter for it, some sort of mechanism, that would transfer your step power (like a kick drum paddle) to some sort of cutters, one static and one moving :D IDK, i far far away even to imagine your inventory, but loving the content!
I went out streetscrapping the other day. Stopped at a place and there was a ton of audio cable and stereo stuff. Probably 60lbs of wire, half of it strippable and some other saleable stuff.
If I ever go to Australia, I’ll volunteer for the $0.50/hour scrapping to help lighten your load with the piles of stuff you can’t get to😊 Thanks for sharing all the oddball stuff though!

Quit depopulating boards, you never gonna melt those small parts (chips, fingers, gold banks, mlcc...) Just throw them in your orange bins. Takes to much time, use your time to scrap...
i buy this week for me and resell 325 ibm pentium pro . ibm pentium 1 , vectra pentium 1 and lot of mouses and ibm stuff , keyboard and mouse , ( scsi isa cards , and one board pc cards isa pentium 2-3 i think and AMD geode from scrap for 50 euro :) i resell pentium one , not scrap
isn't that your job is to scrap e-waste, so if you get 200 of something, are you not signing up to scrap all those items. Oh wait, that is why you have a junk yard of a garage.

The name of this game is to collect the stuff when one can and where one can, with all processing not necessarily done within the first ten minutes thereafter.
