This is just my opinion, but I think Rahsaan Paterson is one of those individuals who never got the shine that they truly deserved. Regardless of this, Patterson is still singing, performing, & grinding. I don't feel he's reached the level of notoriety that his talent deserves. But, he is still a phenom that has yet to hit the peak of his career! Everyone stay safe & in peace!..
I've seen this man a bunch of times and everytime he gets better. So underrated.

This artist I've followed for 25 years @ least since his incredible 1st album! Love Rahsaan...seen him live a couple of times. Once I was in the front row of his gig and I was harmonising with his backing singers...Rahsaan acknowledged, smiled and clapped. That made my night! Best concert for sure
I love Rahsaan music for years. His speaking voice is seductive. What a gift he is to music
His music is so creative and funky! Being "gay" just means "attracted to the same sex". Why does that have to be labeled with a word (gay) which originally meant "happy"? Maybe it means one is happy being that way. I have friends who reside in that "category", so I had a feeling that he also was "gay" because of some words in his music. That's fine, and I would say that is just part of "who he is" - he is very talented musically and he appears to be a smart and passionate brother. Anyway, I love his voice/music and I hear influences of Prince and Chaka Kahn in his voice. Peace and Love!

@@marciarandolph9659 I meant what I meant. RASHAAN spent most of his career in the closet when he could have been a trailblazer. Everybody knew he was gay. I could tell by his videos and styling he was gay. "Stop by" screamed it. So he gets no points now that no one who pays attention to mainstream music knows his name. When he had our attention that was the time. There were other artist before him that did the same concealing of their sexuality to hit a broader audience, and then later revealing...he gets no credit for that.

Those lyrics were written to and for women...he even says "girl"...( spend the night) no where does he say "boy" no matter how ambiguous he tried to be he clearly was not making his sexuality clear. So again, he gets no points for being a trailblazer. I admire him as an artist but for me it is too little too late on that "gay legend" train.
Omar Hudson that was every artist in the 90’s. There were no artists in the 90’s with that lyrical content. We are just seeing Billy Porter and Todrick Hall singing to men on record in the last couple of years
Dude stop Sylvester was the first
Sylvester (who was a great artist in his own right) was an openly gay artist in a genre of music (disco) where being gay was considered "acceptable" by the music execs and fans. What makes Rahsaan's situation so impressive is that he wasn't willing to pretend to be a heterosexual artist in a genre (in the 90s) where being openly gay could hurt the success of your career. Rahsaan stayed true to himself, and i couldn't be prouder of him. Not only is he a great musical artist, but clearly he's a man of integrity.

People are still going to be authentic searching their soul for validation before God, as God knows all our paths. Someone may start off in one (gay) direction and end up doing something different later as mind set evolves. This is not big polarism. The weather changes doesn't it.
