- Here is a recording modes comparison, samples, and sound test video of a portable Zoom H2N Recorder. The recorder has 4 different recording modes.
The main difference between 2CH, and 4CH is the file saving method. The 2CH mode uses all 5 Mics and save it on a single file. The 4CH mode uses all 5 Mics and save it on two different files. One from MS Mics, and one from XY Mics.
XY = Basic stereo recording - point front of recorder toward sound source.
MS = Mid-side recording ideal for film audio - point rear of recorder toward sound source.
2ch [4ch] = Records in surround. Ideal for recording meetings.
XY MICROPHONES
The X/Y technique provides a great way to cover a wide area while still capturing sound sources in the center with clarity and definition, making it perfect for all types of live stereo recording.
MID-SIDE FOR VARIABLE STEREO WIDTH
Mid-Side recording is an incredible technique that allows you to actually adjust the width of the stereo image after it has been recorded, while maintaining perfect mono compatibility, making it especially useful for film, video and television projects.
The three microphone elements in the H2n MS mic are set directly on top of one another. One faces forward and the other two face to the side.
SURROUND SOUND FOR LIFELIKE REALISM (2CH & 4CH)
The H2n allows you to combine the signals from both the X/Y and MS microphones in order to create surround sound recordings of everything you hear-not just those sounds coming from in front of you, but from all directions.
Enjoy!

You have to re aim for mid side recording. Point the side lit up at the source.
Thank you for the info!
You’re the ONLY VIDEO that has a voice test. I’ve searched lol

Ahhh this is exactly what I need, thank you very much!
I'm so glad!
Thanks for this vid
Thanks a lot for doing this. Does the hiss come from the recorder though? It seems pretty extreme...
Not sure. Maybe I increased the gain too much??
What's the name of the Song you played?
Song title is "A Kiss For Amanda - DJ Williams"
@@PTITBROTHERGravenhurst Thanks a lot :)
Beautiful isn't it
Hello P&T, sorry to only come today, when your video was recorded 2 years ago.
But I purchased recently this zoom h2n and I could not find the answer in your video or in the q&a of the comments.
What would you recommend to record my acoustic guitar or my acoustic guitar + my voice. I understand that the XY position should be appropriate, where I can check the level of recording on the screen when playing/singing. Is it the correct recording approach?
Then, do I need to set the auto gain on solo? Or is it better to put if off if I can control the gain on the screen while playing?
Or should I use the MS microphone? Then, how can I check the gain if the monitor is on the other side of the microphone?
And what about the settings. I did not understand how to manage the RAW settings? In fact, what would you recommend to easily start?
Sorry for these simplistic questions, but I just start to use my zoom h2n...
Thanks for this video and I hope you can give me some advice for my recording.
All the best, thumbs up👍

Hi, we understand that you are having hard time recording, but to be honest, we are more like a PC guys. Not really an audio experts. You should ask the questions on an audiophile forums or something like that.
hello, my H2n STOPPED TURNING ON ITS SCREEN, I CHANGE BATTERIES AND NOTHING, IS THERE ANY LOCATION OR WAY TO REPAIR IT?
That is too bad.. Contact Zoom and see what they can come up with
How many hours can it get with 2CH recording mode?
www.solidstatesound.co.uk/pdf/zoom_H2n-brochure.pdf You can find recording time in this manual
It's very good with battery life. Phenominal actually, and the sound is awsome...SBN RESONATE
