This was epic. You could tell they loved having J. None back. VioLayne broke a lot of reactors. Layne and J None also play violins in Voiceplay's cover of Warriors. Layne played classical violin for 11 years.
It was actually Tony Waking (former member) that caught the violin and Tony and Layne assistant at Pattycake productions that caught the bow. Layne actually tossed the violin to them. Then Geoff reversed that part of the video to make it look like he caught it.
I think the thing that impresses me the most about Voiceplay is that even with all of the talent and versatility that all of them have they seem to be driven to continually improving themselves. Look back at their work over the last decade and you will see how they have continually pushed themselves as singers, have made huge strides in their arrangements (to the point that I can't really name any arrangers who are putting out as consistently good work as Goeff and Layne do) And then you even have Eli taking it upon himself to learn and develop the art of set lighting (and he has done some amazing work in some of the videos lately) It is just incredible to be able to watch them work.
I am an old school Metaliica fan - Nothing Else Matters is one of my favourite songs - they went beyond doing it justice... and seriously I love when Eli brings out that rock edge *girly sigh*
What a great reaction!! Totally agree. All I know is that this song is now in my Apple Music library and I’ve listened to it more times than I care to count. It’s just so beautiful.

Both you and voiceplay SLAYED it. They weren't singing they were "SANGING". I am a metalhead from way back And I am absolutely blown away by this performance. Geoff's Arrangement is GOLDEN. I really see a Grammy for this performance. I have never been so interested and curious About how a band feels when somebody covers their song.
I want to ask Geoff what it feels like to have the 32' and 64' pipe sections of a pipe organ footpedal imbedded in his chest! Wow! That's off the deep end of a bass guitar or upright bass! Geoff's got a "5 string" voice! hehe

After listening, they contacted VoicePlay and invited them to their Nov 17-18 2024 Chicago and Friends Concert to sing with them. When the stage manager was getting things set up, he asked Eli where did they need the drum kit set up. Eli just pointed at Layne and said, "He's it." Their trumpet player was sitting next to Geoff and his expression said it all. How does he do that? Have you done VoicePlay's In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins), Creep (RadioHead) or Seven Nation Army (White Stripes)?
My reactions were right there with yours! My ears were like, “What’s happening right now?!?!” So pure! So well done. This can’t be improved upon. I will die having completely lived.
This is the 1st video I have watched voice play. I really picked a winner here. If you haven't heard the original it is a must. Originally it was written By 1 of the members about a girlfriend. I'm pretty sure the relationship ended because The meaning of the song has taken on how they feel about their fans

It's interesting to watch the difference in reactions between folk who are / are not familiar with the original for this one. :) VP are a tad too theatrical for me generally, but they did a great job with this. Geoff is an undeniably top-tier arranger. As someone whose teenage self was outside the record store waiting for it to open on day of release to grab my copy of this album, I was worried about what they were going to do to to represent the solo (a cover of this song without the solo would be ridiculous), so I smiled wide when the violin was thrown in from stage left!! #GreatChoice #TellTheAcapellaPuristsToShush :)

I'll be honest for me this was quite underwhelming. Hearing Eli more recently getting these more metal gritty lines to sing I've been living and my expectations for this were high but this was quite tame in my opinion for Eli in terms of grit and the small section he did get to have grit and go true metal it was sorta lost due to post production and harmonies slightly drowning it out. I was just expecting more from Eli in terms of power and grit and I just didn't feel like I got it.
