    good work bro. Glad to know that you've changed your outlook on RS and started to focus on personal growth. Changing yourself physically is one of the most rewarding feelings. I was once like you, addicted to RS at a measly 120lbs at 6'3. I had terrible self confidence because I was so skinny that I'd hate to leave the house because I thought I'd be ridiculed. That was 6 years ago when i was 16. I'm now 22 at 192lbs/10%bf, completed an exercise science degree and am more confident than ever. bulk up and get lean mate! all the best!

    I agree with most of your comments on RS and how much time you put into it. I spent a couple months getting 99 Fishing in early 2017 and honestly have no regrets about it, but I also have enjoyed the other things I'm doing with my time now that I haven't played in ~a year. That said if OSRS stays alive for a long time I can definitely see myself coming back, maybe in a year or two when I'm in my mid-20s and finally have my shit figured out. RS is a game I have unconditional love for, and I will always jump at the urge to grind some XP here and there

I'm about the same age as you and much of what you said correlates with my life right now. I don't have as much going on as you currently but, I guess I wish I did. I've been prioritizing OSRS for so long it just feels like the most natural thing ever and it's quite a challenge to see through that. But this and your other videos/streams/general ideas shared have helped me aspire for more in terms of knowledge and self growth! For that I am so very grateful :) I could go on and on with this but will try to contain hahah. Anyway, cheers for being you!

  • @Rek-Lore
    @Rek-Lore 6 лет назад +28

    I fully respect your life decisions, I believe your priorities are in order and you're heading the right direction.
    Exercise, piano and travelling are also 3 of my main interests right now so I can relate a bit to what your doing.
    Also I'm on my first year at uni (studying computer game technology), and will get work experience next year.
    I'm curious what the difference in exp/h is with / without tp, I'm runecrafting on a F2P UIM too (UIM Reklaw) getting over 3.5k exp/h. I'm selling my earth runes for 2 gp each and switching worlds when the shop has 5100. Maybe you could also sell to buy some air and fire runes for the tps.
    It was nice to hear from you again, I hope you share more of your future endeavours. :)
    Side note, I'm curious about your interests such as music: what do you like listening to? What shows / youtube channels do you watch in your free time? Are you interested in psychology, philosofy or politics by any chance?

    • @AutumnElegy
      @AutumnElegy  6 лет назад +15

      Hey, thanks for the thoughtful comment! It's cool that we have some common interests. Best of luck with your studies and other goals.
      Teleports increase the earths rate by about 400 exp/hr, from 3.5k to 3.9k. I don't bother to sell the earth runes because ogresses drop vast amounts of gp (alchables), more than I could ever use for anything, so there's no reason to try to make money from anything else. The lost inventory space would slow down rates a little bit.
      I enjoy a lot of different kinds of music depending on my mood and what I'm doing while listening. I listen to a lot of different metal, but my main metal subgenre of interest lately has been black metal. Mgla and Drudkh are a couple of my favorites. Outside of the metal sphere I listen to many different kinds of electronic music, like trance, techno, drum & bass, and a lot of underground minimal techno and experimental stuff. I also enjoy some more classical sounds like Bach's cello and violin suites, Chopin, Debussy, etc. I listen to hip hop and rap a fair amount as well, mainly old school hip hop like Diggin in the Crates and Big L, and instrumental/lo-fi hip hop. I must admit I also enjoy certain Vaporwave tracks/artists as well. Very aesthetic.
      I still watch a fair amount of RUclips. I still enjoy watching RS videos from high level players in the community. I watch pewdiepie, H3H3, idubbbz, and philip defranco for entertainment / news, and I've been watching a lot of videos lately by an interesting character from the black metal scene named Varg Vikernes (YT ThuleanPerspective). I don't exactly agree with many of his thoughts, but I find them interesting nonetheless.
      Psychology certainly interests me since I'm always trying to figure out what the hell my brain is doing. My gf is a neuroscience major so it's nice to be able to ask her questions. Philosophy also interests me since I think I take a fairly philosophical approach to decision making and life in general and it's interesting to think about ethics, morals, etc. Politics does not interest me very much because it just seems like such a mess and many politicians are such scummy people. The state of the US government really disgusts me.

      Thanks for your reply, I've been trying to listen to more metal so I'll definitely check out your favourites. :)

    • @jcmalone23
      @jcmalone23 6 лет назад +1

      Do be aware that black metal isn't exactly the most inviting music scene, lol. Unless you're more of a baptism by fire kind of guy, I'd recommend checking out some of the more ambient black metal scene. I think American groups like Deafheaven, while a lot of people in the scene like to just say they're posers and not real black metal, are great introductions to the scene.
      As far as more traditional Scandinavian/European black metal goes, you really can't go wrong with the classics. In the Nightside Eclipse by Emperor is an incredible album. Watain is one of my favorite bm groups at the moment as well.
      You're also going to see that there's a lot of fucked up things that have happened in the black metal scene, especially early on. In 1992 a bunch of musicians in the scene burnt down churches, etc. Faust from Emperor murdered a gay man for making advances on him, Varg Vikernes (Burzum) stabbed Euronymous (of the band Mayhem) to death, not to mention Varg's neo-nazism that he started supporting while he was in prison.
      It's a great genre of music, but you also need to be willing and able to separate the art from the artist. Filosofem by Burzum is one of the greatest black metal albums of all time. but if you aren't comfortable listening to music that was made by a convicted murderer and neo-Nazi, that's a philosophical line you have to draw on your own, and that line is different for everyone (Anthony Fantano, theneedledrop on RUclips, just recently made a video about this that I recommend watching). Don't be surprised if you listen to it and hate it though. I hated it at first myself.

    • @AutumnElegy
      @AutumnElegy  6 лет назад +5

      Part of the appeal of black metal to me is how dark and uninviting it is. It feels like the most truly raw and pure metal of all the metal I've listened to.
      Deafheaven is a nice listen. It's certainly very different in its feeling and style from traditional black metal, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Violet Cold is a BM project along a somewhat similar vein that I really enjoy.
      I've read a lot about the early black metal scene in Norway and it's quite fascinating. I don't condone church burnings but I can have some sympathy with the motives for it. Christians destroyed paganism and built their churches upon old pagan ritual sites, and those who burned those churches saw it as taking back what was theirs. It's kind of an eye for an eye, which isn't necessarily good, but is at least understandable. I'm also very opposed to christianity and all other forms of highly organized religion, which might make me a bit biased here.
      As for Varg in particular, I think that people are quick to toss a couple of bad-sounding labels on him and leave it there without looking further. Murderer and neo-nazi.
      He killed Euronymous, but he did it because he legitimately thought that Euronymous was going to kill him. Whether or not he had reason to believe that is up for debate, but from what he says, he learned about Euronymous' plans to kill him and reacted by killing Euronymous first. Euronymous seems like he was a pretty shitty dude from all accounts I've read also. Anecdote: When Dead killed himself with a shotgun to the head, Euronymous was the one who found him. Euronymous thought it was cool, grabbed his camera, arranged the shotgun and some other items around his friend's blown off skull, and took a photo. He used the photo for an album cover.
      As for Varg being a neo-nazi, it's kind of hard to tell. He has said before in his videos that he does not think that any one race is superior to any other, but that each race is adapted for their geographical origin and that he thinks they should stay there. Scandinavians have adaptations that make them better for their colder climate, and Africans have adaptations that make them better for their warmer climate, and so on. He doesn't hate non-Europeans per se, he just doesn't like them being in Europe and inevitably modifying the genetic makeup of the population to make them "weaker" for that region.
      His mindset is very old-fashioned and a lot of things that he values highly simply aren't that important with the technology we have today. The truth is that African people can survive fine in colder climates, even if they may not have been able to a few thousand years ago.
      He also has a strong idea of how people should live and what their values should be, and that's where I especially disagree with him. I genuinely don't think it's possible to really "change" people on a large scale, because people are always fundamentally the same and it comes down to human nature, which is the same in texts from thousands of years ago as it is now.
      He LARPs pretty hard as a kind of survivalist barbarian viking which I just think is cool and he is very true to himself and his values which I respect. But I don't deny that many of his values are pretty hard to agree with and I have some deep disagreements with him.

    Glad you moved on, and also made this update video. Many people look up to you and see you as a role model. It's true what you say, RS steals valuable time from many of us. There are other things in life you should be priotizing more than RS.

  • @delvaarg
    @delvaarg 6 лет назад +1

    I truly respect your life decisions, but I can't hide I feel sad about you quitting RS. I really enjoyed your skilling streams a lot (3t granite & lava rc) and I used your desire and effort to get post 99 xp to encourage and motivate me to learn and do skilling very efficiently. Of course there were other influences, but it was truly you that put me into skilling and made me call myself a "Skiller".
    While watching this video I started recognizing some of those feelings you talked about in myself, such as feeling great about quitting rs or having more time spent on irl shit... I stopped playing RS as regularly as I used to almost a month ago (playing less than 1h/week atm) and I feel good for not being "wasting time" and not forcing myself to play "cause I was supposed to be maxed and I'm a noob". After quitting rs I started going to the gym and eating less junk food, while studying and enjoying more my university (I'm in the 2nd year of dentistry school, 3 more to go). I'm still playing on the PC, but not spending all the hours I did with RS (back to Ragnarök Online for now).
    Having said that, I feel really bad for not missing playing RS and to think that I'll never go back to play with the joy and motivation I used to, just like you said you won't go. Well, I hope the sentence "People don't quit RS, they just go AFK" is real.
    EDIT1: Forgot to mention the Completionist stuff you used to do that I admired a lot, "Totus, btw". I don't know who created/updated the spreadsheets, but it was probably you and Arp. Totus was a great influence to keep me playing and if I go back to it, I'll probably try to tackle some shit from that big to do list.

    Good to see that you are becoming an 'adult/men' and especially getting more confident. Keep on making progress IRL. Trust me, at the end of the day you will love the hours that you put into this game but also in yourself. Getting to know yourself is a difficult but great thing to do.
    Keep up the good work!

    Miss your vids man! Always cool hearing about your life and rs stuff. I don’t play anymore even though I would love to go back. But it just doesn’t seem worth my time anymore. - Thefty

    long time lurker here, just wanna say a few things:
    I'm a D1 college student-athlete so I can understand how hard it is to balance school, life, and relaxation. One thing you should know is that you're a great guy with your head screwed on well, you have a lot of great hobbies and you should always prioritize personal growth first and leave time for runescape last.
    Keep growing! Love to hear updates from you.

    Sorry about Aubury :( glad to see you're doing so well though! I loved catching your streams when you would, your stream is super chill just listening to you talk about random stuff while killing ogresses and listening to black metal. Have fun in Australia! Always enjoy your uploads :)
