I have the 1959 f2.5 FL version and I absolutely love this focal length. It forces you to frame differently than your ''usual'' 50 or 85mm. Even at f2.5 the background is suuuper creamy; can't imagine 1.8! Great vid!
Congratulations 🎊 i have an (iphone 14) package for you.Message above username for acknowledgment:.
I have that lens as well (i believe the same year if i recall correctly), adapted onto Sony, and also love the focal length. A year or so ago bought the Samyang f2 which is much better in terms of CA and sharpness, yet that lens from the 50's is amazingly compact with a 58mm filter thread and built in sliding lens hood.
Love how you have to move when composing yourself using any fix lens, But moving around finding the right composition using a 135mm is soooo much more fun then composing for any other fixed length. and when you find that right composition at 135mm its an instant million dollar shot.
It is also an extremely capable indoor sports lens for crop bodies (200mm equivalent)...paired with a 30MP crop sensor, it is even more compelling for cropping
I have the EF 135m f2. I don't use it often, but when I do, it is magical! I can only imagine the 1.8 will be nothing short of phenomenal!
A fast 135mm is one of those lenses that you can use for landscape, portrait, weddings, event, street, astro (with a drive), and some wildlife. It is frequently one of the last lenses most people purchase, but one of the most loved when they do.
Not always in the bag, but you know when to take it and nothing else will do quite the same.
the very last...just bought after all primes and zooms :D
The 70-200mm f/2.8 does everything you mentioned, but with more competence and versatility.

Contemporary "photographers" are more consumers and promoters of capitalism than actual photographers. Nowadays it's more a matter of status than photographic composition. I have a friend who bought all the RFs. But he only use the RF 85mm f/1.2. The others are kept by status.
Only ef 200mm f2 will do. Love both
I use 135mm 2.0L for events and it’s so creamy. I don’t mind the little imperfections that the EF has. I feel it gives the photos an artist look. The lens flares is unique when shooting on sunrise and sunset.
1.8 is not far from 2.0 so don’t see a huge advantage other then having IS now. Nowadays lens are made too perfect and having unique artifacts and imperfections is what gives character. The 135L EF is a vintage lens and will not switch over.
The RF lens I’m wanting from Canon is 14 and 20mm L 1.4 coming next year.
If it is creamy maybe you should clean it up and not smear your deserts over it next time.
I was at the cliff edge and saw people hanging to the chains delimiting the car park so they didnt get blown away... our car moved.. so yes, telephoto and stabilisation is really a good point to raise attention for.. excellent video.
The EF 135L is probably the one L series lens I don't yet own. Keen to jump straight in to the RF version. This'll be ideal for shooting esports and video game events while close to, or on stage, to get those awesome close-ups of competitors, where the RF 85L is just not quite long enough.
Congratulations 🎊 i have an (iphone 14) package for you.Message above username for acknowledgment::
I love how everyone’s reviews of this are at an event in San Diego and Pete actually has it in the field.
Congratulations 🎊 i have an (iphone 14) package for you.Message above username for acknowledgment
They’re both being used. Regardless of the location. What’s your point? lolo
@@GhosTigre What do you mean? Ones at a press event with staged subjects and Pete's is not...
One of the perks of having 5m+ subs and being a canon ambassador lol
What's the difference? They are all paid ads.
Dude thank you for dropping videos again you're giving me inspiration again!!
I also owned the EF 135 f/2L. It was an extraordinary lens, sharp and contrasty the images it produced just had "the look". I ended up selling it when the EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS came out with the fluorite element. I that found it performed equally well at 135mm, albeit it was at 2.8.
This RF 135 f/1.8L IS has me contemplating this lens for the RF kit.
In love with the lens🤍 that shots gave me goosebumps ❤
The sony 135mm f1.8 is my favourite lens I use and will never be sold. I’ve captured my most beautiful shots with it!
Ok
That lens looks magical and i remember using the old EF one and this coming to the RF mount is just pure love!
I love the 135 focal. I see to us the 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 for events. Now I use the 28-70 f2 and 135 f2. Love the photos. Works well and I get that different look without switching by using 2 bodies.
Is it better than a Sigma 105mm f1.4 tho?
Sure! What a question!
This was legit helpful in Determining which RF lens lens to buy first as I currently have ef L glass
Daaaaaaam!! The 135 ef was the first lens I used that seem to have some kind of magic in it. Had used L glass before but something about that lens just seemed to be magic. Stoked to see it in RF form!
I wonder if it would have been better to drop the programable buttons and put in a focus limiter?
Been excited for this lens for a long time!
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS LENS FOR SO LONG I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Peter!! That intro is the best, beyond epic! Love the work, keep it up!
u are amazing man! Still inspiring as heck although u so big in this joint, shows allot of heart and fire, thx.
Love your work Peter!!!

I've been waiting for this lens 😭🙌🙌🙌
The EF 135f2 is the greatest lens ever.
I think you mean "was" not "is"
So loved the EF version..... Can´t wait to get my hands on the RF Glass.... So insane pic´s! love them

Thanks PM. ...The EF 135/2L has always been my favourite lens in Canon line-up. However, it became really hard to recommend in recent years due to 100/2.8L Macro and the latest 70-200/2.8. This new RF lens makes up for some of those hesitations. If you love portraiture, lots of bokeh, or just like to be a little more incognito on your shoots, this new 135/1.8 looks amazing. Only negatives: much bigger than the old EF, no distance limiter on focus switch (unlike old EF lens) and so far Canon says "not compatible with Canon teleconverters" which is maybe the only real negative with this new lens. Way to go Canon!
100L macro is not as good a portrait lens, why all these praise? People imagine multipurpose lens would be more useful but more often than not, leaving it at home and pick up an 85L or 135L
Also I love you kept it at 1.8 for all the photos you showed. I have a 50 1.2. I know I shouldn’t but I just love keeping it at 1.2 😂
Nice one. But what about the Sennheiser Mic? Happy with it and good enough to switch to that small one from the Rode VideoMic Pro Plus?
Congratulations 🎊 i have an (iphone 14) package for you.Message above username for acknowledgment:.
Looks like you had better weather at the black sands beach in VIC than I did a couple of days ago. Keep up the good work!
I am sooooo excited about getting this lens
The EF 135mm is my favorite and most used lens! I will absolute be preordering this!
wow I love this lens!!
Thanks for the video.
I have owned and used a 135mm f/2 Nikon lens and a 135mm f/2 Zeiss lens and love them both for weddings, sports, and portraits. However, I would never consider using them as my only lens.
I have the Sigma 135mm and it's the only lens I use

Out of curiosity, what subject matter do you usually shoot with your 135mm?
Hyped for this lens. Amazing vid.

I’m still using my 5D mark 3. I always wanted the 135mm f/2.0 but didn’t get it before it was discontinued. If I upgrade to mirrorless the 135mm f/1.8 will be the first lens I buy for sure!
I have the original, and I really want this. Haven't bought an R5 yet -- hoping to wait until I can get it used at a good price. But I'm excited!
I was stoked for this lens the moment I saw the announcement. Didn’t need convincing and yet you still sold me haha
Steve McCurry is the guy who got me interested in the 135mm range. I’m so stoked about this in an RF. Gonna compliment my R6 nicely.
Wow, I always wondered what kind of lenses Steve used. I didn't know he rocked the 135.
That into is fire 🔥
Got the 135/2L so many years ago, refurbished, and was an instant favorite, instant.
I would love to see Peter's take on the RF24-70 vs RF28-70
Literally the best lens, ever. So underrated, yet the best prime!
It's not underrated - it's just niche focal length for prime lens and it's not suitable for everybody. Though in the terms of image quality and rendering - 135mm primes are probably most cinematic lenses whatsoever.
The 135mm was a main stay of portrait lens use in the 70s and 80s.
I have a vintage Vivitar 135mm 2.8 and it’s pretty unique, I use it on my EOS R all the time.

Nice...I shoot with Sony full frame and come from the film days spent alot of money on the camera body and have a MD Minolta Celtic 135 2.8 it works great manual focus all steel only 6 blades and I get buttery bokeh, precise focus with 270 degrees of focus rotation.
Dream lens ✨️ 😍
You're such a inspiration, keep making Videos

So question….
I’m getting into landscape/street photography and want to know what the best starter camera would be. I know (think) I’m wanting a mirrorless and 48 megapixel. But don’t know what’s the best. Trying to stay under $1000
I'm not even a canon shooter, I just enjoy your videos!
Those pics😳😍😍😍
Hi there, what is your view about the weddings? Can this lens be a top mark like on other your photos? Could it be a A-Z for one complete day of wedding ?
Outstanding F1.8 L IS USM achieves bokeh both for portraiture and sports photography.
Really love it 😊

My fav lens ever still using it on r5 with adapter
I had the amazing GM 135mm but then got the new GM 70-200mm II, which is an amazing piece of lens, and had to sell the GM 135mm but I still miss it.
My vintage 135 is one of my favorites even on apse crop
These views! Loving all the Iceland content. Cheers
awesome.. nice works

Just picked up a mint condition used EF 135 for about 1/5 the cost of the new.RF and I love it. Sure it has no IS and I hear it's a flaring challenge but I love it so far!
Matti’s photo on 5:27 has radial filter?
PS: Love the lens absolutely awesome place to take it 🤩🏕🌄
I’m a big fan of 135mm lenses. It gives great compression and subject separation. Perhaps, one day I’ll get the RF 135mm lens. For now I use a vintage 135mm 2.8 lens that I bought for £16 off eBay. Lol
Love how Peter’s salt’n’peppa hair is coming through! It’s a beautiful thing, man.
Thanks!
I shoot an EF 135mm f/2 on my GFX. 106mm with the medium format crop factor. *SOOOOOO good*
Happy to see a 6 x 7 crop for the exemple photos

Yes!
For wedding videography, would you recommend this over the 85mm? How about the 70-200mm? Thanks!
Dang man you cranking them out!
1.8 looks sooo good. Specially with pictures like in 5:35 ... I'm thinking of giving Canon a try for pics !
Not sure if you have the time right, it is 5:58

Epic photos in an epic place. I definitely want to buy a 135 BUT how good would my photos be in a church or park
I'm excited for Canon shooters. I have this Sony lens and it is gorgeous. Fast, creamy bokeh - if I was a pet photographer, this would be my top lens. Just awesome. Great for portraits as well!
Been waiting for this lens for the last 20 years!!!🥹

Congratulations 🎊 i have an (iphone 14) package for you.Message above username for acknowledgment:
Would like to see this compared to the RF 100 2.8 L Macro
Yeah I'll stick to my Sony FE 85mm 1.8, which cost a fraction of the prices you mentioned
Awesome 👏 Review as always 😎⚡️🤙
I am learning about the manual mode of the camera ,can anyone explain why Pete used higher iso over slower shutter speed ,it can be his personal choice but it's it not recommended to pump iso cause of noise. Also the landscape was in decent lighting conditions.
Because once you're out into telephoto range, it's best practice to keep your shutter speed fast, (even with IS), to avoid shake. Tele shooting is way less forgiving than wide angle.
I'm sure he would have liked lower iso, but it looks like he was doing most of this handheld, which typically means at the bare minimum you want your shutter speed to equal the focal length for sharp images(i.e. 1/135 here). Also you want the higher shutter speed with the many subjects he shot. Hard to tell exactly what lighting conditions were too since all the shown images were post-processing, it does look quite overcast though. At the end of the day though, while hitting native ISO will always be ideal, these modern mirrorless cameras are pretty solid in the 1-2k range, even higher for some cases.
That new flying eagle poking out the top of your shirt is looking dope 🤟🤟
Congratulations 🎊 i have an (iphone 14) package for you.Message above username for acknowledgment
135 is my favorite FL. The Song GM doesn’t disappoint.
I shoot on film, and I appreciate you throwing in the settings used at the bottom. Still crazy to me thinking about shooting above 800 iso 😂 cool to see how and what you do with it!

I would love if they could make them slightly smaller, either way dope lens
What were your biggest camera fails? You should definitely make a video on that.
Could I replace my EF 70-200mm viii with this??
That lens is massive, like the 70-200 f2.8 RF almost
Still dreaming about getting one of these RF 'soup cans' tho. Always epic video! Greetings from Saskatchetoon! 🤣
what was that frame you had on the lens in the beginning of the video?
Not sure if you have come across the EOS M with Magic Lantern. For video seems really cool, but would love to know what you think about the camera as an inexpensive way to start with photography non-profesionally
Pete, I haven't been on RUclips a while so I have to say..the absolute best day this week is today. With a back log of peter mckinnon videos to catch up on. (Enter coffee montage) haha 📸🤙🤙

Watched this while drinking coffee! 😅
Those shots. Iceland. All gorgeous!
Trying to convince me to buy the 85mm Viltrox huh... (127 equiv at f1.8). I see you, Peter. I see you. 😉
How did you strap the camera to your chest like that?
