- Опубликовано: 1 окт 2024
- He's HUGE & he's super loyal. He'll guard you and your family as well as snuggle on your sofa with you. He's France's best loved French Mastiff and Lionel Messi's dog of choice - The Dogue de Bordeaux - targeted by Hitler in World War 2 as he guarded his French owners so well, German soldiers were ordered to kill them all. This left this breed almost extinct but he recovered with a vengeance and he's back and one of the most popular guard dogs out there. Find out his history, life expectancy, how he behaves with other dogs and also with children.

Thank you for covering them. I am a proud father of a 3 year old DDB, he weighs whopping 150 pounds. They are laid back when they are around family but very active when it comes to guarding their territory. Have been keeping dogs for 28 years now but they are my favourite so far because of the experience he has given me.
BUT, don't let ANYONE tell you they don't drool that much. BELIEVE me they DO! My TV and furniture get hit daily! And you'll step in it too!!
Ha ha 😝
My first Love 💕💕 for a dog breed
This is my dream Dog.
Love you 💕💕 from India Himachal Pradesh
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ours didn't
@@pissant7867 you're lucky!!
This breed just makes you want to cuddle at all times.
So does Anneka
DdB´s will always have a place in my heart !
My Dogo Argentino grew up with a Bordeaux Dog, they were the best of friends.
Beautiful dog... I think I'm going to watch Turner & Hooch now😁
You should!
Thank you Anneka for featuring the Dogue de Bordeaux. What a wonderful dog breed, would like them to be more healthy though. Keep up the good work.
Absolutely gorgeous French De Bordeaux
As someone who had some of the only working Bordeaxs in the UK (premise guarding) I love this breed with all my heart, sadly since the French breed standard did away with the upper weight limit it has become harder and harder to get them with a good life expectancy meaning I will no longer have them(thanks show breeders)
I now with the aid and exposure to the episode you did with BoarBoel I now have them in training and they are incredibly similar in so many of the best ways but “hopefully” with a vastly improved life expectancy.
That’s reason why we have a x between DdB and Boerboel , we had two DdB and died at 6 and 7
@@keeeeesie 👍🏼💔
My girl is 8 and still going strong. Kennel Club put life expectancy at 10yrs but mine has ancestors that made it to 12 for a dog this size that's not bad. It will break my heart when I lose her she is the best. 💖
❤I have a nine year old ♥️ He's been doing great! Can't imagine life without him
This gives me hope, I have a 4 month old girl and can't bear the thought.
I had a dogue de bourdaeux named Bikini. We lost her last november, she was 7. I miss my baby :(
Imagine being fully grown by age three only to pass away two years later. I could not deal with such heart break, especially with my dog turning six in a few months
I've got a 4 month old one and it breaks my heart to think about it.
Did it twice. First 4 years from the second 1 wk before his 8th. He had cardiomyopathy n so so wanted him to make to 8 but ultimately that was just love n my selfishness n he died in my arms at home n the pain of loss was truly unarming lost a part of me truly. Couldn't get a dog for 4 years. Always had a dog n he (Tyson rescue name) went everywhere with me, work, toook my van seats out passengers went in the back, he loved the pub had that place locked down for perperami's, n on the bench like a stone lion guarding the pub. They never leave you love n talk about him still, he knew everyone I was just his side kick.
My favorite Breed
My wife and me have a 2 year old female Dog De Bordeaux and she does not drool but she is stubborn ,lazy, loving and the worlds fussiest eater
Same. I have a 2-yr old male that is also an incredibly picky eater. Meanwhile the food he eats is better than some humans. Every day I hold my breath to see if he eats.
I have learned that stubborn dogs are actually super intelligent!!! I had a bunch of German shepherds that were super stubborn but man were they smart!!!
Dont, whatever you do, go and look at a puppy. Wonderful orange coat, no drool as yet and bright blue eyes. You will NOT walk away!
I know!!! 😭
Love your vids , amazing work keep it up ❤ , also again pls do a karelian bear dog one 😅
I’ll try to find one
@@Animal-Watch I'm excited thx 😅
I’m sorry but “ don’t walk your dog till 6 months” is not good, I’ve have 60kgs + mastiffs and they all got walked plenty since 3 months, not mad long hikes but good decent walks with plenty of play, all have been fine..
Best dog ever !
Miss mine so much !
👍👍👍💕🇸🇪😎
Sorry for your loss
Aww I’m
Sorry
Very nice video Anneka. Have you heard of the Danish Broholmer? It's a mastiff breed but without a brachycephalic muzzle and not prone to drooling. Thought I'd suggest it to you for your channel.
I will check it out
@@Animal-WatchYes, Broholmer is a beautiful dog with a noble history. Can you also please do one on the Mastador (English Mastiff / Labrador mix). This is a mix growing in popularity. If you need a good breeder to showcase, checkout Melissa Bieber in Minnesota. Thank you for the excellent video.
I’m going to look them up right now.
Here in the Netherlands I was looking for the Broholmer. Only 2 breeders here. And it is really really really hard to get one! If you do, than you have to go to Denmark etc. You can't have them just as a pet. I beleave you have to be in a breeding program etc. That is what I saw on the websites of the breeders. I don't want that. I just want a sweet pet dog. A family friend. Now we are looking to get a greater swiss mountain dog. I love the movie Turner and Hooch! That got my attention for the Bordeaux dog. 5 to 6 years is way to short for me. We had a Rhodesian Ridgeback. He was a sweetheart. But I would love to have a dog that is more relaxed.
@@sonjaruiter6663 I'm sure there are Broholmer breeders who breed dogs for human companionship. I think it really comes down to what they find out from clients and what their intentions are. Maybe, and I could be wrong, there are clients who want dogs so that they can start their own breeding program but I don't think that's always the case. Nice you are looking for a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog - they're beautiful dogs. Good luck.
These dogs will touch your heart. So deeply, we've had 2 of them. Their lives were cut very short. We got 6 years with Clyde. ( Cancer) and 5 with Max ( Heart Arrhythmia). It was an absolute gift being around this breed.
❤❤❤
Oh no 😢
AWWW! there just big sweethearts!
They are ❤️
What a stunning dog
They are aren’t they?!
I love all dogs even though I got bitten in both of my legs by 2 large dogs when I was 12 years old. I was playing and running on the street and the stray dogs might annoyed to see me like that. Luckily my mom was there, so she quickly save me. She even told me not to run in front of dogs and she didn't even blame the dogs because most of the people in my country knows the dogs don't like someone strangers running in front of them. There are a lot of stray dogs in my country but most people including me love them. One of the good things about the stray dogs is they can alert you at night by barking when some thief come near the house or some strangers who are not from the quarter/village entering the area. That's why most people feed the stray dogs and let them live as they please.
They are a beautiful breed ❤
They are
Intersting thing about the short lifespan - Beasley (the dog that played Hooch) actually lived to be 13, so it shouldn't be a given that they"ll all die very young. Perhaps they need some other breed(s) bred in for a few generations to help get that lifespan up and expand the gene pool. If you look at 'Hooch' he looked to be a lighter, leaner dog than these guys and some others you see. Those historic photos also showed these dogs to be lighter framed and have longer muzzles which would make their breathing better.
My girl died at eight, she was slim and agile
I think the older dogs in history were healthier
This is so reassuring thanks for sharing. Agree on keeping your DDB slightly leaner. 13 years would be a dream.
14 actually
I always loved this breed and wanted to get one for the longest time, just a shame about their life span.
My neighbour across the road from mr had 1 but she got rid because she couldn’t handle him. When I introduced myself to him he was so soft and then a few days had gone by and I spoke to her again and I says I’ve not heard Zeus and that’s when she told me . I said I’d have had him but my partner has a cane corso so don’t think it would go down well. The lady in this video sounds like she comes from Stoke on Trent my home town .
& there was one on a very obscure TV series from the very early 90's Tequila & bonetti animal watch. 😉
I have one spiced up with 1/4 of Great Dane, I can tell ha´s a pretty special boy three years young now
Chocolate chip cookies and beer is all they need just kidding that was only hooch 😂
Thank you for letting us have the information that we need about these dogs we learned a lot they are cute dogs
I had one in the 90s and yes, they drool everywhere but he was the best dog. He was so good with my kids when they were younger and his best friend was my potbelly pig.
Aw 🫶🐺
Thank Anneka.
Always look forward to your next one.
Lot of info I didn’t know about the breed in there, very good
Haha they looked adorable when they were sleeping
Best dog ever.
I bought my boy freddie from her he's amazing she's a great breeder
I took on a rescue pup of a Bordeaux who was beaten and no hair from very bad mange. Took me a year to earn her trust but turned out to be such a beautiful dog. Just be ready to mop the walls as well as the floor.
And the ceiling
Beautiful dogs my wife and I have two 11 months old so friendly and loving. ❤❤❤❤
Wonderful
Saw one in battersea dogs home, once. Couldn't believe the size of its head. Massive, easily bigger than me
Beautiful dog, but breeders really should focus on life expectancy
Bonjour
Love this breed!

I like what she said with children SET RULES and BOUNDARIES,,,,, this need to be giving to families who think of getting a dog breed
Absolutely
I love these dogs! ❤
I like this breed alot, but you cant tell the difference beetween the dog in the movie and this show type dogs, and that is the problem they want a guarding dog , but they dont want the temperament and the work and teaching that is necessary to have a balanced dog, therefore it is easier to create a couch dog, wich becomes fat, with is nose tucked in, more docile and which will last less time, because they already remove from the dog the characteristics that made him a guard dog.
🩷🙏
Cool, always wondered about this breed. Having a French parent, we used to vacation in France but I don’t recall seeing them, (my French relatives had giant schnauzers and labs). Would probably be great as part of a mix, but as they are, short lifespan would be a deal breaker for me.
Best Dog I’ve ever had ! Hands down .
Oh! These are beauties! I LOVE them.
beautiful dog. Love them since Turner and Hooch,,,,, wish they had better health
Me too x
As a former Dogue de Bordeaux owner, I can say everything that was said about them in the video was correct. Their short life span is due to the fact that the gene pool the current Bordeauxs began with is so small. One thing about them that I wish were emphasized more before I got mine (and would be helpful to any prospective owner) is their heat intolerance. They are not suitable for hotter climates and can die from heatstroke due to their inability to cool themselves because of the shape of their muzzle and palette. They must not be outdoors for extended periods during high temperatures.
Oh gosh poor doggies. Great advice
Yes very good point. Extremely susceptible to overheating and their breathing gets very labored even in mild heat so avoid walking.
Makes me miss our Bordeaux pitbull boxer mix we had. His dad was a Bordeaux pit, and mom was a boxer pit. But he took his dad's traits on, and yes, the drool is real lol. Dum dum drooled uncontrollably and i miss that. Bordeaux's are such an amazing pup. Can't wait to get a full blooded Bordeaux
I am a really! Very big dog lover and puppy lover forever and ever ❤❣️💌💟💝💖💗💓🩷💜💚🧡💛🩵💙💕💞🐕🦴
I have a really! Very big dog lover and puppy lover
Since I was 5 years old
Best breed ever!!!

Can someone please answer this, I'm trying to find a dog that's got a ENORMOUS head, I heard this ones got a big head, but I see pictures and stuff in comparison and it just doesn't look as big as the bull mastiff, I just want to know if someone has seen both bull mastiff and French mastiff males and tell me witch is bigger please
I've had 3 of these beautiful creatures. They are absolutely beautiful dogs. They adore and love the family and people in general. They are stubborn and devout. Gorgeous dogs. I just wish they had a better life span
Killing me.watching this just had to put my boy down after suffering with seizures. Reminds me of my baby boy.
They are really a giant bulldog, they may call them mastiff ,but more on the bulldog side
Haha I’m soaked in dribble. beautiful dogs. If you can’t afford to buy one then you probably can’t afford to feed one.
my favorite breed.for everything.they are adorable.all dogs are but ddb have everything❤
It's a beautiful breed of guard dog, however it's not easy to grow in small places and needs open space s as it's very large and heavy. Thanks so much Anneka for sharing another very interesting video!🙏😍🫶🫶
Great advice x
We said goodbye to our DDB four months ago. Miss him dearly. Truly a protector of our children and a gentle giant in general. Don’t think I will ever own a more balanced and lovable dog than him again. But I will for sure not miss the daily house cleanings though.
Nick Carter and his family have a Dogue De Bordeaux a female and her name is honey bunny
Can you please do the tosa inu
The Tosa is one my favorite breeds. Too bad not too many good Tosas out there.
I will when I fly to Japan
I am a current today owner my boy is of good stock you can find many good breeders in Europe and some in North America
Tosa Inu owner
Love love love my ddb..female about 1 year old 100 pounds of the smartest and most loving dog we have ever had..
I've had Bullmastiffs that were fairly long lived why would these dogs be that different?
Mastiffs are completely different than molossars
Bordeauxdoggen sind ganz tolle Hunde, ich hatte meine Dory 11 wunderbare Jahre 🥰🥰🥰
♥️
That's the Cane Corso the Italian Mastiff.
It’s a shame a lot of these dogs now are not true to there original working form, taller more athletic and less stubby noses, I don’t know why people love to accentuate the bad parts ie stubby faces and shorter and stocky bodies, not healthy for the dog really.
Just read the comments and see how many times the word "cute" appears. That word is the problem for dogs - we want dogs to look a certain way and we are so selfish that we will sacrifice our dogs health for a certain look. Humans are so, so sad.
Heartbreak breed 💔 as with bulldogs 😓
My Tumbler lived for 9 years.
Alano , spanish mastiff many missing
I love that dog since also turner hooch lol i did not understand where was that place because of the accent but woow so beautifull
Longevity 5 to 6. Or maybe 9 wtf..
This was an excellent video that I’ve watched 3 times. I’ve had 6 DDB in the past 20 years and would never think of getting any other breed. They are extraordinary. Thanks for sharing.
Thankyou so much 🙏💙
I’m so happy that you know dog breed is well-known for Disney’s 1989 film series Turner & Hooch with Tom Hanks and not to mention its recently Disney plus television reboot with Josh Peck.
Thankyou x
Nice rugged looking dog
I wanted one as a kid so badly thanks to Turner and hooch, they seem perfect. But I hear mixed things about their lifespan, some sources say it's six years, Wikipedia claims it is eleven years. Even if I got one and it died young, I'd want to know it had a reasonable chance of growing old.
I think it’s on the lower end of this scale sadly
Stunning personality. Genuine caring hero's
They are
I am happy to say since my last post. We picked up an eight week old boy ( Clifford). We're hoping for a full and happy life with him.
Wonderful news
Had one when i was young, they are very easy going , a bit wary at strangers ( but once ok , they are friendly and stable. They will guard property, even when they may look kind of aloof . Problem is their massive structure so what this lady tells is 100 correct , jumping , even un - controlled running can be bad for them especially in their grown state. I never found them stubborn , actually i found mine very obedient , just slow , they do everything slow . Just do not underestimate them when angry , they will not easily back down when challenged and this breed , maybee more then any other breeds, read people like a book . If your one is not liking you or even accepting you , then maybee its time to take that as a note to yourself to improve your state of being. They can and will give you the most human look ( their eyes ) that aint be seen in other breeds .
These dogs really have some kind of 6th sense .
I experienced it , and other owners confirmed this.
The deep red ones with their yellow / green / hazel eyes can stare right into your soul. Mine was a female , very powerfull , compact and pretty low to the ground , once in the summer time my frontdoor was open by accident , nightime .. because next morning i woke up , door open , and she was laying their just on the floor guarding i know for sure it was not the average beauty sleep .
They connect extremely deep with their owners .
A truly amazing breed .
Aw you describe them so beautifully
Mine is very sassy and loving. Very different than my cane corso was, corso wanted to please me and DDB is much more stubborn and independent. Love both breeds.
Very interesting remark as I heard similar before
The most loving breed you could be lucky enough to have in your family❤... life expectancy is the only drawdown as it will break your heart when they leave you😢
I know! That’s why I couldn’t have one!
Wow😊 Beautiful breed. Can u do episode with boxer dog?
My first dog ever, now 6.5 years and a great dog he is. But he has a lot of health problems, my advice take an insurance for these dogs.
Great advice!
I'm on my second, my first died in April and it broke my heart, he was truly man's best friend but I'm so smitten with DDB's I got another one
That’s so sad
Would not have a dog that lives to five or six years old. I love the looks, but the pain of losing a much loved companion would be to much to bare.
Very heartbreaking
Her name was Magda 💖💖💖
they are almost red
I watched a trainers thing on mastiff breeds he put these at the top of the stability list even above the English mastiff which was interesting
That is interesting. They were lovely dogs
I wish people knew my Tumbler. My Bubba Dub.
Aww
Is there life expectancy less then other mastif breeds😢😢
BTW this short life expectancy could be due to very small breeding stock after ww2
Thank you for finallly doing a vid on this breed!!
Easy water 48
I hope for a bright future for that breed to because they deserve a longer healthier life ❤
I agree
You should do the Norwegian Elkhound!
It’s definitely on my list
Stand 5 meters behind the dog and tell everybody how big he is😂
This dog breed is huge and you know it
Agree with almost everything said about the personality and temperament of a DDB, powerful, gentle and loving dogs. Stubborn and wilful too. Mine however was a pretty rubbish guard dog! My DDB lived until he was 10 years old, and I am thankful of all that time that I had with him. A beautiful breed of dog.
Rubbish guard dog 😂 Thankyou for sharing x
Second this... I have come in the house before and she has been absolutely out for the count. Snoring. She is the sweetest, most gentle dog I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Broke the guinea pig cage at 6 months old and was laid down with them eating their food, whilst they played around her. Absolutely loves the kids. Is so gentle with other puppies and people and considering she was 45kg at 14 months, was not small.
love the breed, most loving Dogs to owners. I have 3 love them all.
I’ve heard they’re addictive
Their history sounds similar to rottweilers. But they are so cute lol. They dont look intimidating they look like big stuffed animals.
We use breed DBD . So beautiful all of our where dark red with just a white blaze on chest . You can purchase slobber cloths definitely a must . Our all lives over 10 . They really are great with kids and love getting dressed up ours always went to sons football matches with their own jersey 's . Such beautiful cuddly dogs but they do try and get on your knee for cuddles.
