“It’s easier to find a sugar cube on the moon than delete an internet meme”

Ever heard of Behind the Meme?
Hadley Kennedy This quote is incredible, it goes along with such greats as "What?" -Tom Cruise
Hadley Kennedy that destroyed me
Hadley Kennedy
Meh, it’s a few billion dollars to send a few tons, manned or unmanned, to the Moon; add a few more fro equipment able to distinguish glucose from Moon stuff (plus keep in mind Ralph said *ON*, not *IN* - ‘hear they, Ralph ! ‘Hope you were as specific as you wanted it to be ! -)
And to delete a specific Internet meme, you’d need an AI powerful enough to skim through AAAAALL the Internet, and hack through private servers of any kinds (so including things like personal accounts), plus iCloud or things like that (I’m not an expert in informatics), etc... AND able to determine what constitues as the target meme, as well as all the references made to it on the Internet through any sort of medium (if you want to delete THAT part of the meme, too), AND FINALLY you have delete the modified versions of the meme (‘cuz I’ve heard a meme gets modified a lot as it’s reused by other people)
And you’ll probably need a non-human to man the operation, ‘cuz human nature days “absolute power corrupts absolutely”.
So.... yeah, it seems like a dilemma... gut we’re more advanced in one thing than another
@@nicholasleclerc1583 it also has to delete everyone's memory of the meme

When they say set is the Egyptian God of death but he's actually the Egyptian God of chaos and Osiris is the God of death
And of course Ra never gets any screen time in these kinds of films despite being *the sun*
Nobody ever gets Egyptian mythology right
Osiris is god of the underworld, not the god of death. That would be Anubis.
I heard just listened to that part, I hadn't been watching the video intently before but the inaccuracy made me snap my head toward the screen and replay it to make sure I heard her correctly. Ugh.
kman rocks Osiris still symbolizes death. Anubis assumes various roles according to the texts you read. Osiris usually overshadows him.
I was all for a "dark universe" but not a "dark (marvel) universe". I want The Wolfman and Dracula, not The Iron Wolfman and Captain Dracula. Making horror movie monsters into action movie monsters is a losing game because action movies usually have big stakes. The Wolfman or Frankenstein's monster are at most a city wide issue and should be treated more subtly.
TheInfiniteGlitch Huh. It never occurred to me how understated the monsters were now that I think about it
I agree, I wanna see a horror cinematic universe, where these monsters...(wait for it)...are Monsters! We don't love these monsters, because we see them as action heroes, we love them for being monsters, creatures we can't help but admire, even though they're trying to kill innocent people. Don't have a plot, where the city or world is at stake, follow the KISS (Keep it Simple Stupid!) Principle, and just have the story be our (likable) human characters in a life or death situation and pray they survive the night with one of these badass monsters.
Dracula can control weather. That can be a city problem.
TheInfiniteGlitch the doctor Jekyll movie is going to be the Ang Lee Hulk with tape over the name.
TheInfiniteGlitch as someone who has never watched the originals, I wish this went well. It could've been great.

For me, I always hear smth more like: “[Insert good things people with good tastes want to see in a movie here] is _phe-NO-menal_ [Insert meliorative, connotative adjective here]”
I mean, they sound like me when Idk what to write in an answer for a school test question with a development, where I’d keep putting and adding adjectives, virtues (uk what I’m saying ?), and they do the exact same thing, and adding on top of that things society deems as better, like character development and good cinematography, gna gna gna, while in reality (yes, we DO want these 2 things more than anything else), *_but-you-don’t-provide-that, you hacks !_* You frauds !

I think Dark Universe could have gone quite well if they'd tried to make it more horror based; come away from the action film universes like Marvel and DC and definitely away from the slightly campy black and white films
if this one had been a lot darker and cut the establishment of a universe, like Iron Man for Marvel, it could have worked, if they'd introduced a number of monsters and then had a film about containing or subduing them or something
in some ways I'm sad they did so poorly because I love the classic monster films but they'd destroyed the essence of them now :/
I didn't dislike the movie as much as I thought I would but you're right: Tom Cruise punching Mr. Hyde like Captain America would punch Red Skull was really silly!
Also I know Cruise was supposed to be an unlikable asshat so he can change at the end but my oh my! He was just plain dumb. Everyone was dumb!
Still... I was entertained. It wasn't the the slow, dull ride I expected.
@@anikmonette2140 Yeah, me too. To me, it's like one of those "it's so bad that it's good" movies.
@@b3nl555 I think it is. I had fun because it was a dumb, expensive schlock with actors I liked. I wished it was a good flick but it failed in such ab entertaining way that I might rewatch it with friends and alcohol. 😜
I mean,, Imagine Frankenstein depicted in an accurate translation of the original story.. where the creature is an abandoned victim who grows to resent humanity because of the hubris and negligence of his Creator.
I think there are enough movie adaptations of all of these monsters, to be honest..
If they changed these stories into a horror series, it’d just feel like the conjuring and we all know how well _that’s_ going nowadays
I don't even necessarily need horror, as I think the original Mummy nailed its tone: mostly light-hearted action adventure comedy with some small sprinklings of horror mixed in, camp turned way up. It's a crazy movie because it comes off like a 30's adventure serial with 90's special effects, and I love it. I think the sequels tipped the balance on the goofiness, and so aren't as good.
Also, you will never be able to convince me that Nathan Drake from Uncharted wasn't at least slightly modelled after Brendan Fraser's archetype (himself modeled after Indiana Jones and other popular adventure stories).

I usually don't laugh at a dead baby but the fact that she needed all the power of Satan himself just to kill a baby and a guy in his sleep makes me laugh so freaking hard.
The movie would have made so much more sense if she had made the deal with an evil god after she'd been caught killing them and been sentenced to mummification alive.
Personally, I found it equally dumb that she spends the whole movie trying to tab Tom Cruise with a magic knife in order to achieve her goals, only for Tom to stab himself and that somehow makes him defeat her?
*Sand Satan
“The Mummy is made for a dummy” that line made me laugh harder than it should have.
You know you're in for shit when film makers can't even do the quick Google search to figure out Set is not the god of death, that was Anubis, and Osiris would become involved after his own death.
Now Set is an evil god who represents disasters which no doubt cause death, but that's not the same thing, and I knew this shit when I was 10, who learned about Egyptology as a hobby.
TheRoflcer Thank you. Thank you for this comment. I'm obsessed with Egyptology.
My school taught us this as a fun side project. It was really interesting.
TheRoflcer I thought the exact same thing. That irked the shit out of me.
Huh, I learned that from Age of Mythology.
Instead of spending $125 million trying to make some safe PG-13 action movie with A-list actors and aiming for mass appeal, they would have been better off spending $10 million and just focusing on appealing to a niche audience of hardcore horror fans. Sure, it wouldn't have made _Avengers_ money, but it would have at least broke even and with enough profit to justify a sequel, and they might have even sold some merchandise. I mean, these Universal monsters are some of the most recognizable characters in the history of film, so if they would have just stayed true to the spirit of them instead of trying to water them down for the taste of the mass market who already has a dozen superhero movies to choose from every year, they could have turned a profit.
Bottom line: if you're going to make a movie with a pre-existing fanbase, _make it for the fans_ and don't just copy what the most popular franchises are doing.
With what you said they could have used that same amount of money to make 10 simple horror movies based on these monsters and even if each movie only make $100 million that would still be $1 billion in the end.
that'd be so much more effort and take way longer to get a roi
Dr Shaym e
Also, maybe start off with something a bit more grounded. I get that magic would've been imperative to selling this Dark Universe, but this's a bit too much right out the gate. It almost seems clichéd at this point to advise studios that fail to establish a cinematic universe to do this, but just follow Marvel's example.
Marvel knew that they couldn't kick off their universe with, say, Dr. Strange or Guardians of the Galaxy, because magic and cosmic stuff is a little too much for the audience to swallow right away. That's why they started off with a more grounded character; Iron Man. Then, they gradually went weirder and weirder with their concepts, until there was enough weirdness in their universe already established to justify throwing in basically anything. After all, is it really so hard to accept a talking raccoon in space or an actual wizard after we've had Norse gods (who're really just aliens with magic, but whatever) and a gamma irradiated behemoth?
I respect and like your ideas, but it isn't going to happen, especially not with any of these big studios.

To be honest a cinematic universe with monsters wouldn’t be so bad in my opinion, but the way it was executed was pathetic
Yup, especially if they would make each film taking place between the 1800s to 1950s, making each of them a time period piece that forms a historical pattern to an alternate view of history. Though, I would highly encourage making these incidents subtle and isolated, instead of out in the open and having a city or world at stake. Basically, make each film a horror film, that the main characters try to survive their encounter.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Anubis the god of death? Set is the god of evil and chaos, which would still make sense if you're making a sacrifice for power, I guess, but he ain't the god of death as far as I've heard.
Anubis is guardian of the underworld if i remember correctly, but according to someone else in the comment section the actual God of death is Osiris. Small difference but close.
@@Raptorworld22 so Anubis is like Hades, Greece's Lord of the Death.
Conrado Javier Probably, what little I know of from either pantheon is from games like age of mythology or AC Origins, or pop culture like the Percy Jackson novels I'm about to read. I think Cerberus could be a slightly more accurate comparison but as long as the basic idea is the same, they could very well be exchangeable with each other.(Like exchanging one expansion pack for a game with another expansion pack for a similar game at gamestop or something)
Yeah, Anubis is the one who takes the souls of the dead to the afterlife. Osiris is the ruler of said afterlife. Set is the god of chaos and the desert, and kind of a dick.
Anubis is kind of like Charon. The person who leads the dead to the afterlife.

Personally, I thought the Dark Universe wasn't a bad idea. Sort of a League of Extraordinary Gentleman setup. If they'd have gotten some really creative and imaginative people to make the movies, or gotten someone with a clear vision to manage the whole affair, it could have really been something great. I had thought all this but then I saw that trailer. You know, THAT trailer. Where they cobbled together footage from the old moves and put dramatic action music over it. Serious, WTF.
peace is overrated I think a lot of ideas for movies can possibly be decent at least, for me I almost always blame the execution.
And that sucks because now no one can make that idea great with their own creative genius because some bimbo torpedoed into a fucking mountainside.
Exactly. That's even worse because now no one in their right mind would try this. Well, maybe in a few decades when this whole debacle is forgotten Universal might have another crack at it. Then again, they would likely have also forgotten the horrible mistakes they had made.
Seriously, think how awesome it could have been. Start of with gothic horror, add elements of the spy thriller, maybe with a bit of the 60s Bond charm. A bit of speculative fiction, how would people react to finding out that magic is real. How would science adapt to this new field. Is it something like Shadowrun, where advanced technology and magic coexist in a world on the constant brink of chaos.
You know, I don't think this is a case of good ideas, bad execution. They had no ideas. Like Ralph said, these people were just here for a paycheck. I look over all this speculative crap I just pulled from my arse and I think "No, these cocks did not fail in execution." They could not fail because they had no vision. And that makes it all the more disappointing.
Watch penny dreadful if you haven't already. Pretty much the Dark Universe done right as a TV show.
I mean even the whole genderswap thing isn’t completely stupid, at least the design was kinda cool...too bad it had to be attached to this.

Troy Schulz is this a regular thing with kurtzman? The island he and orci wrote was a blatant rip off of clonus: the body horror, which I’d be fine with if they cited their source more openly, but I think he thinks he can rip off B-movie plots like clonus and life force and get away with it! Ugh!
@@LiquidArmProduction IIRC the Clonus people wound up learning of it and got a settlement or something? I know it went around the MST3K people for a bit.

@@DeepEye1994 at least with that Logan's run (which to be fair I haven't seen, but I've heard the comparisons before) is a well known movie, so I can assume they knew people would realize they were inspired by it, but I know kurtzmen and orci saw clonus, and just ripped it off assuming no one would notice cause it's a 70's b-movie no one remembers. There's an alternate timeline where Ralph actually bit into the tide pod. Too bad it's not our timeline
Abed much
Just the Flash messing up the timeline again
I won't let Nelson Mendella send me to another universe.
Dude, I was thinking that same thing. Alternate timelines have really messed with how I see things.
Irah Redhead Ling I’m mad that the flash response got more likes than urs
Tom cruise is the next Nick cage and I'm not okay with it
At least nick cage is entertaining to watch. Tom Scientology cruise is just pure shit.

warystatue33 I meant Mission Impossible 6
+God isdeadandi'mheretorule dude, tom cruise is awesome. you can keep acting otherwise and pretend your opinion is the actual truth but he is awesome and will not stop being awesome even if he does 10 more mummy movies.
“When is Hollywood going to stop using this violin”?
*cello clearly playing in the clip*
When is Hollywood going to stop using this Cello?
The trilling during scary Russell Crowe sure sounded like a violin to me.
Wait? He wrote Star Trek The Wrath of Khan? That's a classic. Oh
Wait...
He wrote into Darkness? Oh no...
Ralph got a haircut
Gay boi looks goood
DatK9 ɪs ʜᴇ ɢᴀʏ?
Well his smile is more feminine than Amanda Seyfried's......i'm not sure if that's enough proof.
I wish my girlfriend would look at me the way Ralph looks at his friend at around 1:30. You can tell Ralphie is soooooo in love, I hope his partner feels the same way about him.
Don't worry. She (He? They? It?) does not.
He does look very attentive, almost like a good friend or something
Damn, you made that super depressing. "Hope his partner feels the same way" like...wtf? Lol
1:20
This is the best scientology promotional I've ever seen. I'm going to go get audited today.

Don't do it, man! Don't give them ideas!
Man I love the "Tom Cruise kills himself"-series.
Talk about some Netflix originals-good or bad
*Stop! What* the hell happened to your hair?
Maybe he lost a bet?
It has been bANISHED!!
it's called direction-hair resting, basically there's a line on the top of your head, left falls to the left side, right to the right side, coam the hair that way and you get a bald looking spot.
tiagovalen ikr
Oh hey it's Tom Cruise!
What about the Guilermo Del Toro Cinematic Universe
SmolRemblingClosetWeebtrash ngl I would watch the hell out of it
Now THATS a great universe!!
Tales of Arcadia technically counts as a cinematic universe.
What abouth Hideo Kojima's
Wait, wasn't the 2014 movie "Dracula: Untold" their first attempt to start this "Dark Universe"?
yes
Major Benson Winifred Payne Yes, and ironically, it was better than the Mummy.
What ever happend to the Untold Universe?
@@Narutass43 why isn't this Mummy a part of the Untold Canon?
I agree with you except for one thing. A monster cinematic universe could work, if it was made up of smaller scale monster films. This tried to be an action movie for some reason instead of a horror film. Also, it's plot was stupid and made no sense. With the right people at the helm you could make these films for $100 million a piece and gross $500 million worldwide easily.
I would honestly be all over the idea of a monster cinematic universe, yeah. But I'm the sort of loser that reads books like Dr. Jekyll meeting Dracula... This movie didn't interest me in the fucking slightest because the second I saw the casting (well, just Tom Cruise tbh) and the trailer, I was put off in an instant. If I want to see another big budget, flashy action film with Tom Cruise running around getting shot at every 2 seconds, I'd just watch Mission Impossible, I don't need a monster movie pretending to me MI. I honestly think they'd have done better going smaller scale, like you mentioned, and taking themselves waaaaaaay less seriously. Monster Universe would be great if they embraced the hammy side of it.
Just Some Guy Ok They want these movies to make a billions not half a billion
a pretentious douchebag True. But I figure if they made the movies for less (horror costs less than big budget action) less gross could still have a similar net. Hire me Hollywood! I've got ideas! I can turn this cluster-fuck around!
I'm so glad you finally reviewed Tide Pods. I mean The Mummy.
Both made my stomach eat itself and made me shit blood.
BON JORNO

Everyone
It’s Joey Stiles
Joey stiles mystery consumers?
Macon is my favorite character in the RSCU (Ralph Sepe Cinematic Universe)
Omg that blonde chick is playing a role in Peaky Blinders, and they tried so hard to pump up her character to be likeable, but it just made it...cringy. her acting was awful, her Irish accent over the top. And not to mention that they tried to portray her as this powerful free woman who needs no man, but she turned out to be backstabbing, cheating sugar baby. The whole plot around her was just garbage.
Maja Henriksen Wait, that accent was supposed to be IRISH!?
Maja Henriksen Wait that was an Irish accent?
i love the part when russell crowe calls tom cruise a younger man when he's a year and a half younger than him
Daddy is back bois
Not dad, daddy.
Ti My done
juan matias O'hara gayyyyy
Garbage Pail Kids cinematic universe sounds awesome.
Yay I get to watch an Italian make good
Tom Cruise is good in a movie where the entire focus of the movie is on Tom Cruise. That's why he did so well in Mission Impossible because the plot is pretty much just Tom Cruise being a badass for an hour and a half.
Tom Cruise as Tom Cruise in Tom Cruise produced by Tom Cruise
"HUUUUARGH"
I love the laughing in the background at the "pissing in his own mouth" joke
The Mummy? More like The Dummy! OOOOOOH!
I love that the game is widely considered better than the movie it's based on. How often does that happen?
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Funny how 2 of the worst movies (the Mummy and X-Men Origins Wolverine) spawned such epic video games.
i didn't find my mommy in this movie i want my money back
I didn't find my money in this movie i want my mommy back
That joke is horrible
