That's a very good point about the use of engineering to make the most of the available power rather than just adding a motor that would suck away the range and tyre life.
Another positive review of the A290. I like that it is not as overtly a boy racer as some hot hatches and there is more emphasis on overall driving enjoyment than raw speed. Price is obviously going to determine the level of interest but at least the leather interior of the GTS model helps justify it as not just a sportier R5 but a premium one as well. The big test is how it will compare as a driver’s car against the benchmark Mini Cooper SE. Personally I think it will be a better choice for many because of its greater practicality and more sensible controls with less emphasis on accessing everything through one large dinner plate screen.
I prefer the cleaner exterior of the standard car but that interior looks usefully improved leather seats aside. I like that Renault group show Apple Maps on driver display as I think the only other one to do this is BMW . As an original R5GTT owner I really want to like this but the range is just too short for an only car. As for price if it is 5k over standard top spec they will sell but if they are north of 10k I think they will struggle
Need to remember that the MG 4 Xpower is a power up grade of the trophy there top of the range MG4. Xpower was built to beat almost everything on the road and mean roads not track.
If only they could find a way to fit the higher power hybrid system from the Clio....love this though but a real world range of 180/190 miles isn't good enough for me, but as I said, this is a stunning car!
Looks very nice design, first EV I’ve liked, this stupid obsession with ridiculous high BHP has gone far enough, 99% of us will never use it but pay a heavy price in range and insurance premiums, 178 or 216 is fine and plenty to give us pleasure driving it, range is the big problem, you have to half it and that’s what you get, Silverstone for me is a 260 mile round trip, no chargers in muddy field, certainly not 500, that’s the problem, but a great looking car, pity not a hybrid, X (formally Twitter lol) spot lights a bad idea, very naff boy racer look definitely not needed, good review as always, thanks.
No!!! You need the X 's to warn left lane drivers that you want to pass... While we're at it, can I suggest everybody, without exception, keeps clear of the left lane? Thank you all, it makes my journey's that much more fun! 😉
I notice Alpine sells cars in the Czech Republic but not Slovakia, which is a shame. I hope Alpine will open some dealers on Slovak territory in the near future.
Looks a nice design but probably spend most of time watching it charging. No where near the old GT turbo legend. Be good if an approximate price and performance mentioned
actualy, you'd pay less. You can have both power outputs in both versions. The GT and GT performance have fabric. The GT premium and GTS are with leather.
It should have more power. Never mind the MG4 XPower, the Alpine has less power than an MG4 Trophy extended range. You are going to get spanked by your neighbour taking their dog to the park I also think the gear change buttons look a bit naff. I'd rather have a lever and a cup holder
@718YellowSubmarine being RWD, the MG4 is a lot of fun around roundabouts and twisty stuff. I think the XPower is more of a straight line brute, but I'm not thinking about that one. My point was just to illustrate why I think the Alpine is a bit weedy
My partner drives a 320e touring, which has a 12 kW battery. Over 60% of all the miles so far were on electric. It's a great car for her. But if I do the math, it consumes a vast amount of electricity. You have to be very careful to do 40 km on a charge. So that's 30 kW / 100 km. In reality, more like 33 kW if you dare to use the aircon. Which is double what the A290 will consume, while being slower. But I know which one we will take to go skiing in Les Alpes, no not the Alpine! But that's only a couple times in the car's life.
Used to follow her on instagram but I had to stop because she’s convinced that Elon musk is the devil and Tesla’s are so bad god knows what musk has done to her. I will also be unfollowing her on RUclips and sticking to the better car reviewers on here like carwow and electrfying.
@@LBEAR73 good riddance ❤️ I haven’t the breath to list every negative impact Elon is having. I’m sorry we have different differing opinions but glad we can continue with our lives.

4:28 D N R = Do Not Resuscitate! 😂
That's good to know if it breaks down! 💔
I have always been a fan of Alpine I think this could be a winner if priced correctly 😊

with first comment, hope i can get a copy of that hot hatch :))
That’s better Tish, audio perfectly synced! Great review and car, although I doubt the boss will let me get the Alpine over a standard R5!
Thank you, I don’t know what I did but the audio was A MESS! Every clip was out by a different amount 😅
Excellent review ! Thanks !

A hybrid Turbo version maybe. Not a full EV. Looks good at least. Great review Tish.
Lovely little car👍 but needs an ICE with twin exhausts until then nah!
Need to remember that the MG 4 Xpower is a power up grade of the trophy there top of the range MG4. Xpower was built to beat almost everything on the road and mean roads not track.
True, but have you read the reviews? The chassis of the MG4 is not capable to handle the power of its motors.
I love it
Thanks from Sweden!🇸🇪 Great review. I have choice the Renault 5....better range👍

Love it
it could use a real limited slip diff some say. I like this concept but it costs a hell of a lot money
I want one so much :-)
Just switched up here from Tish does travel 😅😅

Don’t like those silly X spotlights they look really naff can you remove them? Otherwise everything else looks great

Alpine doesn't sell anything, Renault does, it's the Renault importer for Slovakia that's decided not to offer it
@ Then I think the distributor of Renault should bring Alpines over there.

bachelors car 😎🍻
A110 future is uncertain though
39k apparently
Shame about the interior options; I'd actively pay more to not have to have leather seats.

@ going by the alpine website the only uk options are GT, GTS, or some sort of Premiere edition.

Great car as long as you do not drink coffee!
It’s an odd omission. Defo a deal breaker for many.
Such a shame these are EV’s and not hybrids
Hybrids are a joke. I will stick with my EV, much faster than any average hybrid.

@@AutoSocialUKso you won't review Teslas because it would take away their "safe space" 😂
I thought this was a car review channel, hmm.
I am with Tish on this one! Musk is a fascist and Tesla Y is the ugliest car on sale IMO.
