I love your emphasis on the mental side of fishing, and you do such a great job educating. One of the things I could do better this year than last is definitely speed. I need to speed up, particularly as the water warms over the summer. Last year I did great on pike in June and then less so in July and August, and looking back, I didn't adjust my speed enough. Thanks for all of the info, I love your videos!

Hi Thom had a few near doubles and decent Jack's fishing ricky roach with the lip in roach or Rudd pattern on the Thames along deepish banks and under trees that hang in to water ,also loads of micro pike from k and a canal on light gear, stanley doing the best.good luck mate .

Tom! Nice to see back in front of the camera. Hope all going well with the family.
Great story by the way. I’ve only been to Chew Valley once. Wow, I felt a little intimidated by the size! Massive. I was in a boat. Great fun and I didn’t catch a thing either! That’s really useful info about the female pike resting up. I wonder if that’s the same for perch and other coarse fish? I shall await the next tale. Regards as always
    Dave

    Hi Thom!
That is good observation and deduction.
However did You try the same or slower retrieval with slimmer lure? If this also worked out ? Or the speed up was essential?
    All the best!

Yes tried slower retrieve with the slimmer lure but it was all about speed that day!

Hi Thom. There are so many typs of baits on the market. Rubber fishes, crankbaits, spoons, spinners, spinjigs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits etc. Now what's your first type of bait that you always start with when fishing for predatory species like pike, perch and zander? How long do you fish a certain type of bait and when do you change it? Greetings!

      @Thomhuntfishing  3 года назад +1

It totally depends on the species and the circumstances. Warm water for perch my favourite is crankbaits, pike in the spring time I love chatterbaits…. If it’s really cold I fish a dropshot a lot.
I’d have to say a jig head with a soft plastic Shad would be my most versatile bait though

Hope they decide to allow lure fishing for pike on Blagdon lake as there's rumours that a record pike was caught from there and never fished chew valley even tho i live 10 mins away 😭 its just so expensive!

Piers and jettis on lakes for me are working out very well when perch fishing, I live in Ireland and a 40cm perch is very rare, but me and a friend of mine are getting decent size fish every other cast at these areas, with a few of them being around the 1lb 30cm mark, which is good for us, dropshotting with small Berkeley nymphs in orange, also a lot of luck on cheb rigged creature baits (which I prefer for keeping away wasps) and I think scented lures make a big difference, pike have been impossible to catch, on boat or on shore, with very few fish 3 lb jacks if any, any tips on locating large perch shoals ? I have a basic fish finder

Hi Alex, where are you fishing? I’m coming over to Ireland myself soon in September to fish Louth Derg!

On a boat, large perch shoals are usually going to be in/around deeper water. Scan areas that are 15-40ft deep and often they will be suspended midwater 👍🏻

Hi Tom, I'd like to hang my rods (rigged) upon the wall as you do. Do you know the name of the holders you're using?

Yep will eventually get round to that one day….. I’m just so focused in tournaments that I barely end up taking pics of fish we catch

Hi , Thom I remember that day. That was also one of my start taking part in comps ;). I also had same tactic like but we did not know this lake enough. I remember I caught 3 Jacks and make a movie from this comp -> ruclips.net/video/Tf3zrUW4pg8/видео.html
