Childhood trauma caused me to experience all guilt, conviction, everything 100% of the time as severe and debilitating shame. I literally hated myself and was cruel to myself.
I'm still in the process of saying no to shame. But I've found that even conviction does me no good whatsoever unless God shows me HOW to change, or what to do instead. if I am convicted to have more patience, it does me no good if I don't understand how to accomplish that practically.
sadly, this is where psychology has helped me far more than church. in the example of patience, I learn to do things like take deep breaths before I respond. that gives me the ABILITY to respond differently than I used to.
To have guilt or conviction without the ability to change frustrates a person and reminds me that God says not to frustrate our children. so I don't think he wants to frustrate us.

Are you me? I dealt with shame my whole life. I also turned to psychology, always looking for something practical. The Holy Spirit has taught me that its not me who deals with the shame. I had to be delivered from it. It happened during a worship song at church and i just felt a weight lift off of me and i started crying. Believe that Jesus is your deliverer and that He bore all shame on the cross. Hebrews 12:2. We just need to believe what God has said, and trust that in His timing, His word will be accomplished in our lives.
