I listened this song so many times, I really got fed up with it. But Angela has such a subtle warm timbre and unpretentious way to perform that it is a real pleasure. Thats why I like the sopranos in the Monteverdi Choir so much.
I have always been a great lover of Dowland, especially his vocal pieces. The quality of this vocalist’s voice is striking and I am not sure exactly why. It is a modern woman’s quality of voice applied to early music which provides an interpretation that transcends time (I really don’t know how else to put it). The lute is perfectly balanced to give a devastatingly beautiful accompaniment. This gives me ideas about how to approach my own playing as a cellist.
The typical "plummy" operatic (back-of-the-throat") vocal timbre and constant wide vibrato listeners have to contend with in all classical genres probably didn't become widely used by classical singers until around the 1820s. Thank goodness there are at least a few singers who are able to sing early music with such a direct, forthright manner of voice production.
I know this marvelous song by heart and heard dozens of performances, but this is so deeply touching it brings tears to my eyes (as it never did!) and it still does, even listening for the third time in a row. Yes, it's that moving. So beautifully done, with intimacy and care coming across to us in the music and even in the video. How would I not thank you after what I was offered this last few minutes? This made the world better, and without a bang. Love from Portugal.
I'm obsessed with this song and I've listened to soooo many arrangements and performances - this is hands down the most impressive one I've ever listened to. Bravo to you both!
This one is my favourite rendition of the ones I have so far heard (many)! Others sound relatively deep that make the lyrics go incomprehensible, but this performance stays natural and easy to pick up the words. Somehow Angela has more clarity than others :)
I having hard time hearing the lute well, its bit low in volume as well, other then that it sounds great, and performance of you both is on spot. I would suggest bit better mic'ing next time. :) Kind regards.

Amazing to think that this was composed in 1596 and was one of John Dowland's signature pieces. And it's still being aired. Beautiful!
Quelle voix d'ange!
Great this is real music. Glad there are young people performing that understand this. No thanks to autotune and blip blop music
I heard Taylor Swift borrowed influence from this...
Angela nomine, angelica voce.

I agree. Custer LaRue took a similar approach with the Baltimore Consort in this recording:

Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said
❤
I think I like this version better than Emma Kirkby's. It's so clear and smooth. Very melodic.
Jaskier (Buttercup) is doing his job alright, he "knows all the chords"... 🙂
Sumptuous
🥺
Soaring.
This particular song is full of eroticism
Dowland? *click*
not bad
I decided not to listen to any other version.
Too young to understand what they're singing/playing. I'm not holding it against them. Lovely pair.
