    Great video!! I def need to try some of these spots the next time I’m there. I wish you would’ve tried more authentic Haitian dishes. It seems she has adapted her menu to include things from other cultures and that’s what she served you. Only thing really Haitian was the fried plantain, pikliez and the macaroni au gratin. You def should have tried some black rice with sauce. Best thing in the world.

      Myfullfiguredlife: EXACTLY!!!! This restaurant is owned by a Middle Eastern man if I’m not mistaken. David needs to be going to AUTHENTIC HAITIAN RESTAURANTS! There’s NUMEROUS in Miami alone! We don’t have ANY CURRY dishes in our culture NOR JERK. This video is a let down big time!

    • @Davidsbeenhere
      @Davidsbeenhere  11 месяцев назад +3

      Fair points but regardless Naomi's Garden is highly regarded in the area so I think it does fit here. Similarly, I wouldn't say Versailles is a deep dive into Cuban culture in Miami. This is more of a video about the different people in Miami, and a brief overview of the food since we did 5 different cuisines. We are releasing an entire series on the various cuisines of Miami that will far surpass this one over the next couple months. A lot of this is about the people and their stories and less on cuisine deep dives. That said we already have filmed our next Haiti in Miami video which will be out shortly and really shows the good Haitian Food of Miami. Stay tuned!

    Those patties, come on David. Now, to be fair. I do live not that far away from that Jamaican Kitchen joint, I could probably take 2 or 3 buses there (I'm in South Broward, so a bit north of where they are). I'd go there just for the spicy beef patties and that chicken curry patty. Also that fried rice - Jamaican Chinese is very underrated, even if there aren't that many unique dishes to that specific sub culture of Chinese. But jerk fried rice?! Sign me up. And that Haitian spot, looked so good also. wow.

    Our Guyanese friend got it wrong😉 It’s curry chicken, not chicken curry. Curry is the spice that you seasoning the chicken with and describes what you’re doing to the chicken. Similarly jerk chicken describes the seasoning you’re applying to the chicken with jerk seasoning. Chicken curry suggests your are infusing the curry with chicken flavor and that the opposite of what the intention is.
    In any case curry chicken, chicken curry, curry shrimp or shrimp curry all end up tasting delicious😋

      You’re confusing cooking techniques with sauces fried chicken (frying of the chicken) stew chicken (stewing of the chicken). Now chicken cooked in sauces don’t work that way that’s why it’s chicken curry, chicken cordon bleu, chicken florentine,chicken tacos and like a billion others…just saying 😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣

    The elder didn’t comprehend what he asked about Haitian cuisine. Curry is NOT a spice of our culture! We did not have Indians as indentured servants because Haiti had long freed themselves by that time.

    Jerk chicken is a uniquely Jamaican dish not a pan-Caribbean dish. Most probably she adopted it from the local Jamaican community?.

    • @mkesmoke
      @mkesmoke 11 месяцев назад +1

      She def adopted it. Really unusual for a Haitian restaurant to serve jerk chicken when we have our own seasoning spice for meat call epis.

      All English Caribbean have jerk but it originated in Jamaican and exported by Jamaicans to other islands.

    😅 That’s exactly how I’d describe it - curry as an adjective. Curry is describing the way the chicken has been done. Hence curried/curry chicken. Enough of that!
    Would love to taste the
    🥵Spicy Macaroni, the Mofongo with all the secrets…, looks delicious.
    Also Chinese Jamaican fried rice.
    It’s hard to get authentic delicious patties, most times I’m disappointed with them.
    However, there is a man in (a little shop) Edmonton, London UK who makes the most delicious Ackee and Salt Fish patties.💖😘

    Hello David, have you ever visited Trinidad? Trinidad is probably the most cosmopolitan country in the Caribbean and it influences its food. How can you talk Caribbean food, mention a few of the islands and leave out Trinidad? LOL Trinidad got some good food too.

    Tell the Guyanees the most important criteria for judging a patty is the temperature. A patty MUST be consumed piping Hot. if you arent gasping for air to cool your burning mouth and releasing steam, its not really a patty.
