Hi Matt. I’ve been window tinting for 40 years. Between a 1-10, I’ll give you a 9. Just because until you feel more comfortable, you say you need more practice. My opinion, is not to use the Frankenstein method. It hangs too much over the edges and as much as you try not to, it will touch something and cause contamination. Good technique though, Matt. My only suggestion, is to tape the inside upper part of the windshield on the headliner to prevent any contamination. Also around the upper corners. Between 1-10 my installs are a 9.5. Nobody is perfect. The video showed you mustering on your experience. Job well done. How is everything going on your preparation of your garage? Kumusta po, iyong asawa? Salutations to your asawa. Ingat amping. Kats Auto Tint, 40 years of experience and still learning.
Walang anuman kuya. I’m going to start my own tutorial videos in window tinting soon. Sharing my 40 years of experience and still learning. Beginning in early, 2019. I’ll be retiring soon? So I might be heading in a different direction. You youngsters have the advantage of tutorials showing different techniques in tinting. We oldsters learned the hard way, inventing techniques and self taught. But even I learn from the younger generation. Hope you will subscribe to my channel soon. Sincerely, a fellow tint master. Hurrah.
I use the RRoll method for all of my Windshields and back glass it depends more on what's in the way. Working on a RR video right now and it will be up on my Channel this weekend.
Glad you didn’t cut the vid when u had to get trash out, it happens to the best of us and it’s hard to get a perfect installation. Great job I’m glad you back, I’ve learned a lot from you thanks
Yes, absolutely, and any tinter that claims he never gets even a speck is kidding themselves. After 30yrs I still get the odd speck or hair or piece of lint, the hardest skill in tinting is being able to get the offending item out if it is to big, without getting more in, and being able to hide anything else with the correct technique and not "smudging" the adhesive. Then don't be to proud to pull it off immediately if it is to much. It is better to do it then & there, before the film cures, also eliminating any customer bad experiences or reactions on pick up.
Hi Matt. Great Video. A few things I would recommend is wiping down the leaner side of film before soaking it. If there is any dust wipe it down before opening it up. Like someone commented before I like to sit in driver seat and start peeling from the passenger side. I also tape the top part of the roof and sides. Thanks for sharing.
Really stepped your editing game up here! Great quality video, and as always, informative and concise! Thanks for taking the time to share these tips with us. Even when you're out here asking for input, a lot of us are still learning from you.
Ive seen a lot of tint videos and this guy does a good job but uses soooooo much solution to help it move.... especially when he has it half way on the side windows.
All your videos are helpful! Thanks! I’ve seen in some of your other videos when you’re shrinking side windows, you lift the film off of the glass, hold it there and then heat it to shrink it. can you make a video of that shrinking technique. Thanks!
👍👍👍Thanks for the info. I watchedmany videos on reverse tinting and yours was the best. I was so confused on how clear film ended up on other side until you showed it. Thanks👍👍👍👍
Hey Matt, thanks for the video! I like to mist the air before I release my liners, mist the film to kill static, I peel top corner towards bottom center, keeping the right tension to control the liner, I spray on a downward angle and I don't spray in a way that will push contamination from glass into film. I picked up a couple tips from this video, thanks again!
Awesome video. As a tinter you definitely need to be able to Reverse Roll in certain situations to make help yourself out. I'm going to be uploading a Reverse Roll video soon top.
i use the liner as a pull tab like you , however i normally unroll 3/4's to 1/2 of the film, laying it down on the back dash or front dash and once 3/4 exposed siting on the dashin I then lift and set the first part in place [freinken stein like] I pretty much start right here like like you were at 9:00 and then finish just like you did . . i do this because usually when i dont bottom can bind or the top touchs the head liner. . when first unrolling, also by starting at 3/4 you can ussually have it lined up enought so the films is not touching top or binding at bottom. . . it usually comes out pretty good . . . but like you were always learning!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like to squeegee the liner and wipe edges befor peeling the liner. It is alot easier to do on a peel board just becuse you can avoid the liner sticking to itself. You can also leave a 1 inch gap of unpeeled liner in the middle so it won't shift when rolling. Also some people use a wooden dowel to keep the roll from flopping when applying it to the glass near the end of the roll. I only reverse roll on BG and WS. Looks like you have it down, just need to perfect it. You can also do it vertically from top to bottom if need be, like if you were do do a model 3 back glass by yourself.
An important part that I don't see instructional videos addressing is where and how does that rolled up shrunk piece go for that 1-2 minutes while you're prepping the inside glass one last time? How do you secure it from unraveling, etc? Thanks!
I've always used a 2000w heat gun with a variable airflow dial, something like the classic green Makita heat gun. However any heat gun will work, the thing to learn is the amount of heat applicable before overheating the adhesive, Matt's "point of pain" is a good starting point for settling down of issues, tool choice & technique are important too. For me, if you wouldn't run it across a babies chest, it needs a cloth, or shouldn't be used. Some cheap Chinese tools look the same as professional ones but are of hard plastics & unsuitable.
I love how everyone rips on how much solution Matt always uses... lmao, at least he keeps the boa... car clean man! Keeps at it Brofessor, your vids are the best! Been learning a ton.
Another great video. I'm like you and would use a peeling board normally, but on the road that can be impractical, so the reverse roll is necessary sometimes. From watching there is only one thing that I can see is the material of your jacket is a static magnet attracting detris from the air & the vehicle to you and the film. Apart from that I can't really see anywhere else you can eliminate it, it sort of goes with the territory of that technique. Perhaps you could look at using flat glass dry adhesive films, eliminating the need for peeling, wetting & relaying the backing sheet. Some of the Low-e & night vision low reflectivity films would be suitable, and flat glass film shrinks, although you have to not overheat it or you can cause "ghosting" in the lamination adhesive in the "wet shrink snake pattern"
Thank you! They sell a cropped and uncropped version. Usually can save a buck on the uncropped version. But the benefit of the cropped is it doesn't bump into as much shit lol. Nothing major, just some tighter corners and such
From the vehicles I've tinted, the tint on the dot matrix never fully adheres to the window. It doesn't have enough room in between the dots to adhere to the glass so it will normally dry and leave the dot matrix with a white outline once fully cured. This is just something I've noticed.
I’ve tried my front windshield 3 times in my Silverado similar to this one and every result I get is huge fingers on the sides that won’t squeegee out. What am I doing wrong
From my understanding you need to shrink the curved areas with a heat gun when you have the tint on the outside of the windshield when you’re trimming it to size.
Max Raziel Here a suggestion. I’ve been tinting for 40 years. Tried many heat guns and the cheap ones. Wagner is good but eventually burn out all of a sudden. I recently bought 2 heat guns from SnapOn tool truck. About $125. The best I’ve used and if something goes wrong it’s guaranteed. It also has more air distribution which make shrinking easier. But Wagner is good just keep receipt in case it burns out before a year. Buy 2 in the event the other buns out suddenly.
It's on my moms 2010 sadona ex it's got factory 25 on the rear 50 over factory to be 15 and 30 on the fronts in llumar ctx long story short a llumar dealer screwed up the air blue 80 they creased it In the middle of the passenger side
@@DetroitTintStudio yeah I got suntek cxp 70 right now with 5%strip yeah you wont get this I originally started with the 2 fronts in the ctx 30 and the air blue 80 and then they tried to get out it by sweatening the deal by refunding the money's and letting get the backs done for $80 so they let me keep the windshield tint isent that odd
Ive yet to find a windshield or back glass that cant be reverse rolled better than frankensteined...big fan of the reverse roll! From start to finish, after shrinking, i lightly mist the liner and wipe the edges, then peel the top corner back and lay it back on its self and then do the same on the bottom corner. (Creating a triangle in the middle) then i grab the center of the liner and peel to the half way mark and wet the film. Lay the center of the liner back down, then each corner. Repeat on the other side of the windshield. Then reverse roll tightly and sit in passenger side seat rolling from driver side to passenger side. I leave the liner on the back of the film until the entire glass is covered by the film. Remove the liner then squeegee from top center down and out (quicker the better for a cleaner install) then seal all edges and around mirror button with a paper towel wrapped over a hard card. Done. Hope this helps. You are doing a great job for being new to the method! Also i try to use as little water on the top and sides as possible on the final spray down for the install. 👍🏼
Thanks for sharing how you reverse roll! I'm playing around with the advice people are giving and it's helped improve it. Rinsing the edges before I roll it has been the biggest help so far
I like it a lot. looks really good, blocks a ton of heat and I haven't had a failure with it yet. Like all the nano carbon ceramic films, it had a little low angle haze and it's a little more difficult to shrink. I have yet to find a perfect film tho. Easily one of the best and it's what I currently use.
@UCzJqlobgZyf9tAj-jM-5qxg I think he means he rolls it up and then unrolls the whole thing and takes the liner off inside for contamination put up some videos so we can see what you guys are talking about
Okay great video. One question and I truly would like to know, what do you charge for front window shield? Private message me if need to. I'm very happy I came across your channel. I always learn so much. Thank you
I would have just put a couple strips of wide masking tape across those cup holders of coins to hold everything inside when I positioned the console vertically. I'm NOT down to touch metal money much in general, especially "sticky" coins as you described. Disgusting.

Very cool thank you 🙏
Any tips on removing creases .? And sealing up to the dot matrix. As mine looks bubbly in the outside.

I have a question the tint that you use does it sticks well on to the dot matrix.
No, unfortunately none of them do. You always see the white/silver
Isnt it that you put the glue side front side ?

I did a 1999 F-250 Front Windshield last week.. -Frankenstein Method- My god, my arms are still burning
That's tough for a large windshield. I think the RR method is more safe to prevent contamination.
What heat gun do you use ?
The cheapest Wagner or the Porter Cable
Also, the heat gun in this video was a Porter cable heat gun with a heat tape wrapped around the end.
