I bought a first generation T3 about 10 years ago in .308. Not knowing anything about scopes, I took the Gunsmith’s recommendations and had a 3-9x40 Bushnell scope mounted. It’s put a lot of venison in the freezer since then. You can’t really go wrong with a Tikka. I imagine the T3x is even better.

No need to “break in” the barrel. Tikkas rifling isn’t cut in, it’s forged in, therefore no need for breaking it in. Guaranteed to be 1 moa out of the box and they shoot every rifle before shipping it out to make sure it meets their standards. Great guns for a great price.

I have a 24" Tikka CTR Stainless in 6.5 Creedmoor. It is by far the most precise rifle I've ever owned. Last weekend I averaged 0.44 MOA for 5-shot groups with it (shooting 140 gr ELD-M hand loads). That said, the rifle really likes to be shot clean. I usually clean it after every range session. If I go too long without cleaning it, it will average something like 3/4 MOA for 5-shot groups.

So many good things about this video. I noticed you had what looked like a Pachmayr Decelerator. Excellent choice. I like those a little more than the Aerotech. Shooting .308, as I do, or anything bigger as others do on these modern light platforms, Tikka Lite being the lightest, is going to have significant recoil. It is because of that mean, old English guy, Sir Isaac Newton. And his Principia Mechanica (mechanical principles, essentially the laws of physics with the introduction of a new math, known as calculus, thrown in to help explain.)
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Always remember that. Anyway, so, what helps with felt recoil is changing the timing and direction of the recoil energy. You are still encountering the same amount of recoil energy. You change directions of some of it with a muzzle brake, if you have one. This Tikka does not. You could install a clamp on from a company like KahnTrol Solutions but that adds weight. Next best bet, if you can afford it ($150 or so, US,) is a hydraulic from Falcon Strike. It will reduce the felt recoil by 80 percent. I have one. It lives up to the advertising. You are slowing down the recoil with the liquid. This changes the recoil impulse from a jab to a push.
Cheapest alternative and what I have done on my two chassis rigs and my MVP LR 308 is the Pachmayr Decelerator. You can find them and Aerotech at Academy or order from Amazon. And they are by far the cheapest.
Dealing with recoil is, outside of choosing the right ammo, the most important part of accuracy that I can see. You have to not flinch if you are going to be accurate. You must practice with live fire and you cannot get good results if you are going to flinch because you know a heck of a kick is going to happen. Do something about the recoil. And it is not a tough guy thing. I am, in fact, a big and tough guy. It has nothing to do with that and everything to do with physics. Get a recoil management system going.
Secondly, I have also found that Hornady SSTs are good and my best results are with the Federal Fusion mid-weight, such as 165 gr, and heavier. My MVP happened to like Federal Nontypical Whitetail 180 gr to the tune of 1/3 MOA after extended strings of fire. I shoot no less than 40 rounds a visit to the range.
Tikka excels for rugged mountain hunts. You may climb and hike half a day or more to get to the prime roosting spots. Or, if you hunt public land and may hunt a mile or so into unkept woods. The less weight to carry, the better. Especially if you harvest a 140 pound buck. Certain weekends where I hunt, you have to dress the deer and bring the rest of the carcass out intact and take it to the deer check station. They will weigh it and add an average of 35 pounds for guts removed and that gives live weight. Then, they will take bone samples to check for CWD and beasties. And blood samples for general herd health.
Then you can use their rack and gambrel to finish skinning and quartering, if you want. Maybe you have a processor that can do all of that and you just bring the whole carcass. Some places may have a system in place where they can ship the trophy to a taxidermist for you. You just order the cuts and sausage varieties and they call you a few days or weeks (depending on how long you want it aged) when your order is ready.
That last bit is a big reason I have changed from an economy sedan to a truck. I had a truck a long time ago and I really missed it. Now, it is great to again have something to make hunting easier and to go fishing, which I once did all the time.

Far superior to leupold, an old hunter once told me to be prepared to spend as much on the optics or more than the rifle, that’s good advice because last n first light is extremely important in deer hunting, also you have very little cheek weld on the stock which is very important on 308, sorry for being negative but I have to be honest

thanks bro my honest opinion is it's too heavy for hunting and 7-08 is a great caliber but I would go with 7mm rem mag it has more energy, shoots flatter easier to find the ammo and able to shoot all medium to large animals. I could recommend Christensen Mesa in 7 mrm and I did a review on this rifle shooting .25" at 100 yards and I shot my 1st elk at 580 yards also have that vid on my channel.

@@vameathunter2771 I'm sorry to ask, but what are you referring to when you say it's too heavy for hunting? It's same gun as yours (308) but only difference is it's 7mm 08 (308 casing necked down to 7mm). Also should have stated going to Kansas whitetail hunting. I know it shouldn't kick as much as 308. Thanks

@@briankeith922 I'm so sorry, I thought this was regarding the Seekins rifle I uploaded yesterday 😂😂😂. Yes, Tikka in 7mm-08 would be a perfect choice, it will be flatter shooting with practically no difference in the recoil. Now, only down side would be finding the ammo compare to 308, but my friend in Montana reloads 7mm-08 and he love it. Best of luck and let me know on your Kansas hunt.

You forgot something. That Scope has the CDS Ballistic Turret. Did you have Leupold manufacture a CDS Dial compatible with any of the ammo you tested? If not, you are not fully realizing that rifles accuracy potential. 🎯

    • @vameathunter2771
      @vameathunter2771  Год назад

Yes, you are right. But I preferred to practice different distance and know which crosshair to put the target. It's faster and more reliable and for hunting I limit my distance to 500 yards with 308. Thanks for your comment brother, I'm sure it will help many shooters and hunters.

    • @PatriotNJ-qj8fv

Leupold makes the best scopes. I have been leveling the crosshairs with a new tool. The Fix it Stick “Scope Jack” really gets those crosshairs perfectly level. That also makes a big difference accuracy wise. 🎯
