Liking the condenser filters. That coated condensate discharge is nice too. Shame they can still sell them so cheap because off the crooked trade deals the government set in place... There goes more American jobs... like you said, at the price of these, this will hurt manufacturing and service.
An over 50% savings in cost is huge. It will likely not do as well as True. But the restaurant biz is hard to do well in, so I can understand why some would use the lower brand for sure.
I think it should be mandatory for health departments should inspect ice machines just about every "ice machine not keeping up " call I get hasn't been cleaned in over a year Yummy stuff Dave thanks for all the info!
@@NorCal-refrigeration Also keep in mind that minerals don't freeze thus the deposits on unit , I agree though some are nasty and auto cleaners are just a selling tool at best.
Looks fine to me, better than that American crap ;-) That condenser fan motor we call a "multi fit" here in Europe, generally 5 watts,10, 18, 25 & 36 watt ratings depending on duty, it's all I carry on my van because the vast majority of commercial refrigeration here uses them. The mounting spacing is metric BTW, I've tried to retrofit them on True equipment (which is the only kit I come across that uses imperial) & they can be made to fit ...just. And those electronic controllers are pretty standard here too, I noticed that a lot of the kit over there is still being supplied with electro-mechanical thermostats. Personally I prefer thermostats but I'm old school ;-)
I have had no problems with the Embraco compressors yet, (4440) equivalent. I see the same quality issues in the household fridges I work on. People mistakenly think if they buy a Kenmore fridge that they are getting quality, but the made in China sticker says it all. I also believe that the Chinese copper tubing is inferior, thinner, and contains more impurities than the old American made copper tubing they used to use in refrigerators.
yeah I'm gonna shoot jim a call he is an awesome tech I learned a lot from his Excellent video's!!!! by the way that unit is CACA!!!! thank's for sharing ...
At my last job on startups the reach in freezers for the ice cream (Hill-Phoenix brand) would come standard with a Dixell controller. We always replaced them with a Danfoss.
Nice video bud, I had the pleasure to work on one of those Atosa.. units today, except the one I worked on was a freezer, with a nice restriction at the inlet of the drier. Drier looked cheap! Unlike those Turbo Air units they threw in good size driers !
I like the pre filter on the condsensor but the real kicker is the quality on that condensate drain YEAH lets just add more money to china thanks dave great job
Just had a customer scrap a eight year old two door prep table due to a failed controller and condenser fan motor, repair cost was half of what new one was and i had my doubts over the compressor as it had run hot. Those square motors are really common here, i keep a load of different ones on the van.
@4:41 looks like the condensate drain on the reach-in may have already been 'repaired', looks like there's grey sealant 'spooge' on the customer's recipe chart stuck fast to the back of the unit above the condensate pan...
Hey man I appreciate you making all these videos. I like how thorough you are! Guys like me need to see how it’s done right! I recently started a refrigeration business as a side hustle. Only have one customer right now till I get all the tools I need. Primarily I cook and on the side I repair and maintenance their equipment. Eventually I would like go full time with my company. My area in Florida is nothing but restaurants and hotels. The training Program I went through focused on residential so I still have a lot to learn. Can you give me any pointers/business advice/books/training materials?
Always in a race to the bottom. I wonder how long before other manufactures move to the same kind of design or just straight up rebranding to be competitive. if this continues there going to have to get the price on parts down to as you say keep them worth fixing
@@NorCal-refrigerationAll industry has gone t*its up for the most part, especially since 2016 but consistently year by year. "The great jelly doughnut" I swear I heard that reference before. Insight on that statement?
I actually embrace all the Chinese refrigeration and HVAC products. We are technicians, we make a living off repairing equipment. I hope we will see Chinese roof-top units and other large commercial HVAC units soon.
I've noticed a real decline in True lately. We cover warranty calls in Ontario Canada. I've seen drain lines factory installed on an incline and creased. The quality of True has decreased in order to keep up with Chinese manufacturers. If this is where the industry is heading. Then bring on the service. There will always be demand for this trade. You just have to keep up with the changes.
Well at the very least they have condenser filters. Sad to see them using cheap metals which rust so quickly. I'm also seeing more of the Mars 807 motors even on the new True and Beverage Air units as well.
Just added a relief vent to a Hoshizaki freezer just the other day. Came with an updated defrost heater, and drain line heater. Drain line heater stays energized all the time, instead of just when freezer was in defrost.
Similar to a turbo air or a Everest. Not a fan of either. I've Repaired a lot of those condensate loops and they are not easy to get to like you said. I've been to the True factory in St. Louis and its impressive. Can't beat the quality of a good old true or traulsen but you can beat the price and sadly that's what most customers care about these days. They all have Chinese components so I guess it comes down to quality of the box itself and buying American. I know our job is to repair them but What do you really think of them?
Chris Bivens Traulsen is solid and last. True is good. Delfield is real good. Beverage air is ok too. I'm not a fan of turboair either but like u said the customer will buy these.
Chris Bivens I really think there not going to last. But for the price if the customer can get 5-7 years out of it then it's a wash. I usually see about 10 years life on a compressor in good units, ( they get abused ), buy 2 Chinese units to 1 good one.
I live and work in jax fl. These things are everywhere, Hoshizaki got into the restuarant Refrigeration reach ins business. They offer low prices and still cant come close to the price of these. They were using txvs but now are going to cap tube to reduce prices. They are using r290 I dont know if that will change either. It just sucks to see companies that have to make all these energy saving changes brought on by the epa, which increases costs. But you can just buy them from a company that distributes them and they get it all from china. The MAXX ICE brand is trying to sell cheap ice machines but so far have been unable to make something worthy. But I'm afraid that's only a matter of time.
The company I usually purchase refrigeration equipment from is trying to steer me to buying this Atosa brand. He claims they have really improved. I somehow doubt it. I'm used to purchasing True and Beverage Air. I do have a newer Turbo air refrigerator with the self cleaning feature and so far it's been fine.
cant beat a Delfield imo but when they can buy 4 for the price of one ya cant blame them. but then again in the long run will they really save $ when it doesnt last? only time will tell. how is parts availability?
I have worked in a warehouse and they had a sub 5 year old Atosa refrigerator in the break room for storing perishable sack lunches that has been on a leaking spree and repair technicians did not want to repair this crap. Glad they got rid of that POS. They should’ve spent the extra money on a True or Traulsen. I have seen much better quality in big box store residential refrigerators than Atosa refrigerators. If you are going into the restaurant biz or want a cold place for your employees to store their lunches in the break room, don’t buy Atosa or you will buy twice.
Good Vid. Good info ! Yep, starting to see a few of these around. i don't know if i like the shrink tubing around the hot gas line, i like the fact that it staves off the corrosion and makes it last longer , but will it still evaporate enough water, plastic is an insulator, dropping the hot gas line temperature significantly, i can see overflowing drain pan problems possibly. we will see.
I have a three door supera freezer, they are junk the heating pipe got same how rust, water went in and damage the compressor, I think that company is not longer in bussines
Francisco Cisneros I know this is old but yeah bro I worked on that supera new unit compressor took a shit. Went to look them up and they were gone lol
These have gotten a lot worse, I tell people not to buy them. They are dying at year and one day consecutively, part department doesn't even know the heating element PN. Ashame. Worry me about the future for food service industry.

FBD had a shit ton of Chinese copper tubing in their Frozen beverage units made in 2014.

I guess we will be like tv repairmen and motor winders one day.I do see somethings I like though.
