@hihoe1882 I've been hearing about slavery in my community all of my 51 years on this planet. However, what I wasn't taught was that slavery has been in existence for thousands of years and most ethnic groups have taken their pound of flesh from their own brethren(tribal warfare,pirates,and even kingdoms wanting to solidify alliances through trade and commerce). Maybe, I've grown desensitized to what has transpired since 1865 but to the best of my knowledge no other ethnic is constantly asking for validation or acceptance like my own who seem to base their identity on past atrocities instead of current and future social/economic success. Again this is just my opinion it's just that as a man whose roots stretch across three continents shouldn't our focus be on knowing who we are as a group of people and becoming self sufficient rather than destroying our own people and expecting to be given a pass for acting schizophrenic?

July 4th is not for African Americans' freedom. African Americans were still in slavery on that day. I was born on July 4th, but only celebrate that day because it is my birthday.

We don't need "the spirit of junteenth" if it's inclusive of everybody who were not enslaved.
Junteenth is not about everybody. It's about black people whose ancestors were enslaved. No one but blacks and a few abolishonist helped to free black people from skavery. Everyone can celebrate us as long as they don't try to take credit for our history; or some of us try to give our history to everyone for their benefit, while we celebrate others from the outside. Stop giving our heritage to others. Allow/guide them to celebrate our victory and history, not insert themselves.
