I really appreciate the reviews on this channel. Everytime if i am unsure about a new game i look up if you guys made a review about that game already. Caligula 1 & 2 are now on my Wishlist :)
Wow that's a really high score. Don't get me wrong, this was always on my pickup list, but after playing the first game, I'll have to see it to believe it. I'm happy to hear Noisy Pixel holds it in such high regard though!
@@LAGSAS Just finished the game. The credits are rolling right now as I type this, actually. After finally getting around to playing it, I have to say, it surpassed my expectations. I went from disliking it for the first 10 hours, to liking it for the next 30, to thinking quite highly of it by the end. For a B/C level JRPG (as far as budget goes), the story has a lot of heart, and the combat is very impressive. I'll be looking forward to the possibility of a third game.
The first game didn’t really have me wanting to play any of its sequels but this noisy pixel review like many other noisy pixel reviews is having me now want another game lol 😂🙏🏼 great vid y’all!
This game is the last game my mom got me before she passed. I played it once and didn’t touch it since. This review made me realize I should give it a try, maybe my mom somehow knew this game was a banger
If Caligula Effect 2 truly has improved upon the formula of the first game such as dungeon designs, characters & writing... Then I’m sold, definitely have this on my wish list. The Overdose remaster had so many flaws yet the minor things that stood out from my experience was the Soundtrack. Glad to hear the switch version for CE 2 seems to be a step up from the first game, even though there’s definitely still some jankiness in the character animations just like the first game. Anyways, aside from Caligula Effect 2. Looking forward to the developers other game that’s coming out soon in Japan called ‘Monark’
@@champdancer19 shouldn’t be difficult to choose. If you like trophies, graphically looks better then the switch version albeit not too different. Go with the PS4 version. If you are willing to sacrifice graphical fidelity for portability, then the switch version is where you go.
I'm glad to see they carry strong points and charm from the first game and improve in sequel. Looking forward to play and hope they port to PC like Overdose as well
Even though it fell a bit flat, I thought the CE: Overdose had a lot of potential. Sometimes developers need to fail before they succeed, so I'm glad to see a sequel, and hope the CE2 builds on the first game's strengths and remedies its weak points.
agreed. Thats why other games like Biomutant and Back 4 Blood had so much potential, if a sequel to those happens it could be much much better. However B4B should have had an offline mode and bots only instead of needing ppl etc. tons wrong with it tbh
This looks amazing. I was already interested in the first game but it’s gotten rare and price hasn’t really dropped… so I might just go for this one instead, since it seems to be a huge improvement
I am sick of videos regurgitating Metacritic scores and saying all the same old shit games are amazing. I am a big fan of Ys and Tales of and continually hear their most mediocre entries being hailed as the best and must play games. I love this review and I love how you have introduced me to a series I didn't know about and made me excited to play it. To be quite frank trawlling jrpg reviews and finding the same 15 games every time, usually 13 of which I don't like, reviews like this make my game shopping so much easier. Also you referenced the soundtrack being amazing and OST is much more important to me than graphics.
@@NoisyPixelNews I kind of gave up on reviews, when BotW, one of the worst Zelda games ever made, got 10/10, or 100 scores almost everywhere. BotW was full of fetch quests and that slow trawl across the huge empty landscape to complete them was so boring and combined with the shocking VA (some of the worst I've heard), poor OST (worst of any Zelda) and lack of excitement, poor dungeon's, stamina comparable to a baby who's parent's smoked 40 a day through pregnancy, lame puzzles, repetitive enemies of up turned buckets and trolls, boring enemy design (forementioned buckets) and the failed visual combination of Ghibli meets Valkyria Chronicles just looking like a washed out Ghibli. The fact it got any top scores whatsoever is beyond me. It is a game that is past floored, to the point of complete ruin and I questioned for the first time in my life if companies were getting back handed cash bungs for reviews. I find it impossible to rate it above a 2/10 at £45 for 6 hours of being bored to tears by my favourite franchise of almost 30 years. And I did that twice. I played WiiU first and then foolishly gave it a second chance on Switch. I remember being sat there saying over and over in my head please something just happen, I've waited years for this and want it to be good and it never did and is one of gamings biggest let downs. This seeing games that don't get mentioned getting 9.5 gives me some hope, I have not enjoyed a AAA game since Fire Emblem 3 Houses and hoping that this is maybe the game I've been looking for. I have subbed.
It's disappointing that they didn't have any DLC costumes in the game for the characters, it would've been a nice touch to have "Casual" outfits for them and *Spoilers* Wicked's costume for Marie Amabuki, given the fact that she makes an appearance in the bad ending
I will have to try it eventually when the price drop. I can't believe this is getting a 9.5 ! The first game was so mediocre that I have yet to finish my playthrough and I already drop the game 4 times. The battle system was fun and interesting but every single other thing was a disaster.
So the story in this one can be enjoyed without knowing anything about the original? I saw the bad reviews and steered clear but will def be picking this up!
The first one had great potential...until you realize you could break the battle system buy spamming a single move the protagonist had because of the properties the attack had. A few other characters had similar moves as well. The side quest system was also horriblely implemented.
there's a lot of combat balancing and the sidequest system has been greatly improved. I left out talking about it for time but it's much more streamlined.
I really had some fun with the first game. Sure things could be better (like the dungeons design), but it still gave me a fun time. I would really love to play this second game, seeing all those improvements. But... Yeah.. PC is neglected again... I can only wait and hope there will be a PC version some time, because at the end the first game came to the PC too.
@@TheOwwen Yeah - I know. I already bought it. It's a bit disappointing it's only on the Steam platform, because I have the first game on GOG, so I would have loved to see that second game on that storefront too. But that's a minor niggle, because I am already glad this game has come to the PC.
I enjoyed the first game though combat definitely started to lose interest about halfway through the game. Do you think the new one is different in this?
Combat's improvements combined with actual dungeon design has me thinking you'll stick with this one longer. The limit to 1 on the Imaginary Chain will mean you aren't just using rapid trigger over and over and auto battles can be interesting.
@@LAGSAS that's cool to hear. I finished the last one and loved the story characters and music but the combat got dull later on and that dungeon design was bad lol
wow, didn't see this one coming considering the mediocre reception of the first game. I assume that I don't have to play the first one in order to jump into this one? Great review as always btw
Hey everyone! Great review! I really enjoyed my time with this title back on PS4. Would you happen to know if there are any significant changes made to the PS5 version?
I dropped the first one (Switch) because the game wasn't purely optimized and everything just became annoying and jarring as I progressed. It had a lot of potential. I'll take NP's word for it and pick up the sequel.
@@LAGSAS Thanks for the reassurance! I have been listening to the sequel's OST this past few months. It was the only thing that kept my hopes up in this franchise to do better.
I just wasn't able to get into the first one, the battle system sounded cool on paper but in practice it made every battle frustratingly slow the only way I could be into this game is if it fixed that or has some kind of fast forward toggle.
I'm not going to lie, I'm kinda bummed out that we can't be a musician in this one like we could got Overdose. It seems even stranger when the game gives you multiple opportunities to say you're unsure about going back, and even has companions that feel the same. I like the whole, you go through both sides of the fight element. When I realised that I got 2 major bosses in and wasnt going to be a musician I was disappointed. The dungeons and combat definitely got better though. Except the side quests are boring and stilted still ngl
I guess it sorta makes sense though? The reason for the magician route in Overdose is because Ritsu (Trauma: Social Anxiety Disorder) was curious what the other musicians thought of Mobius - doesn't change the fact that it's somewhat annoying though
My goodness. I don't specifically remember what I hated about the first one, but it's the only game I've ever had refunded on Steam. Now I'm suddenly very excited for this entry. Would you say it's fairly playable without having played the first in terms of story?
