    The best way i found to do the line warmup is to do draw a fairly large circle with a dot in the middle and then you can draw dots on the circle and draw lines from the middle to the dots around the circle (or if you prefer drawing from the dots around circle towards the middle). This ensures that you are practicing drawing straight lines at every angle.

    This video is superb.
    Drawing is just a hobby for me, but a very important one because reasons. With what I draw, these principles haven't been too important, but lately I've been feeling hampered by my limitations of not understanding them, and frustrated when I tried to branch out, with the lack of foundation to work from.
    This is hands down the best, most thorough, and most accessible information on vanishing points I've found, after quite a bit of looking.
    As indicated by your previous "long convoluted attempt" at making this video, it is not an easy thing, to create something simple.
    This is already changing my sketching game, which then impacts many more areas of my life. Thank you, very much.
    You have the teaching skill - it is a true gift.

    • @robertlkiss
      @robertlkiss  4 года назад +1

      It is necessary as long as you don't feel confident with your lines and ellipses. Exercises are supposed to help you to get better and confident with the craft you are doing. If you got to a point where you are confident with your craft and you do it on a daily basis the exercise is in the craft itself.

    • @robertlkiss
      @robertlkiss  4 года назад

      It's not really about speed it's about what you want to draw. I usually go for 3 point perspective because that's the closest to reality.

  • @jorexcalamba410
    @jorexcalamba410 5 лет назад

    I have a question , i hope you're still active right now because it has been bugging me.
    In one point perspective is the vanishing point always in the middle?Can you adjust where to put the vanishing point?For instance it's on the right middle-ish.
    In 2 point perspective are the vanishing point limited to rhe sides only?
    In 3point perspective are the 3 VP only limited to left right and bottom?

    • @robertlkiss
      @robertlkiss  5 лет назад +1

      Hey there. Let me answer your questions:
      1: Technically yes you can move the VP around but 1 point perspective is never really used because it is incorrect and gives a very flat end result. It is interesting for some graphic representations and simplified drawings, but you would never use it in product design or realistic drawings.
      2: What do you mean if they are limited to the side only? The vanishing points are always on the horizon line. Here you can move them freely as long as you don't get too much distortion.
      3. The 3 point perspective is the next level of the 2 point perspective. So 2 VP's will always be on the horizon line like before and the 3rd VP will be above or below the horizon line depending on your camera and whether it is looking up or down.

      Marcelo Marcon there's no real time estimation for that. But if you keep on practicing fundamentals and then applying them to real life at the same please you are doing now you should see results within a year or half a year I recon.

    this was a great video. i just don’t get why sketching is so highly valued in the ID community when you can make a rough model in cad and get a perfectly executed drawing from that? it seems like a waste of time to sketch and when i have an idea the first thing i want to do is put it in cad not waste time on sketching.

    • @robertlkiss

      I agree, and I tell this to a lot of people. Sketching is just one tool in a big toolbox that id-ers have, it is a useful tool but not a necessary one. But for some reason, people still view it as a must.

    Hey Robert, I have a question about 1 pt perspective, I hope you are still active since the question was really bugging me.
    So for 1pt perspective, Can there be two different vanishing points located differently? Like, One vanishing point for one cube, and the other vanishing point for another cube, but all in the same canvas. I don’t know if that’s possible since in 1pt perspective the vanishing point is where your eyes are looking at.
    Thank you for reading so far and have a good day! (It really would make my day is you could answer my question:)

      Hey there. I'm not sure if I understand your question. If there are two different vanishing points isn't that a 2 point perspective by definition?

      Robert Laszlo Kiss Hummm... Let me put it this way, In 1pt perspective, do all the cubes have to converge at the same VP, or can there be another VP for them to converge?

      @@abbyxiong3406 pretty much same answer :) as soon as you have a second vanishing point by definition it's a 2 point perspective. A 1 point perspective is usually very flat because it doesn't have a 2nd vanishing point.

      @@abbyxiong3406 its hard to explain in a short message but i think this article does quite a great job at explaining a 1pt perspective:
