Let people co-design their neighborhoods, and you get walkability: the case of Freiburg, Germany.

Housing and urban planning are where car-centric cities become especially unpleasant. Citizens of Freiburg are forming "building groups" (Baugruppen) and "rental housing syndicates" (Miethäusersyndikate) so they don't have to build all the parking spaces requitred by the city.

Housing is very important for mobility. I live in USA and there are a lot of single family housing take up so much space.

Energy prices in Germany are heavily affected by the war in Ukraine. But those who walk, bike, and take the tram should be much less affected.
It would be an interesting video to compare German families' transportation choices during this energy crisis. Perhaps more people will choose sustainable modes like the people from Freiburg, and this is a period in which the German government should encourage the mode shift as much as possible in other German cities through similar policies and infrastructure...

It's the federal building code, which cities have been allowed to interpret loosely:

The German word "Mietshäuser" ends with "er", therefore the following associated word is capitalized! For street names that end in "er" you will find the word "Straße" as a single word and capitalized (e.g. Freiburger Straße vs. Freiburgstraße)...

@@petiteplanete Hey, I don't make the rules here! 😂 The "-er" is used here to clarify the affiliation to a specific named place or to a specific place-related thing. The "-er" in children (your example) is just the plural of "child"! The syndicate in the video refers to specific apartment buildings located in Freiburg and not to any apartment buildings in general. So this is about locality. The founders of the syndicate probably wanted to emphasize this fact...

"Mietshäuser Syndikat" is not specific buildings in Freiburg, but an organization -- see de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mietsh%C3%A4user_Syndikat?oldformat=true. According to the rules of German, which you indeed do not make, "Mietshäuser Syndikat" should be written as one word.
"Freiburger" in "Freiburger Strasse" is not the plural of "Freiburg".
