Thanks love! You really listened, and understood the poetic beauty of the song. Even though many of the references are very English, you got it! I love seeing people have those moments discovering The Smiths and Morrissey (the singer/songwriter). Please do more! Just subscribed!
“Your leg came to rest against mine/And you lounged with knees up and apart/And me and my heart, we knew/We just knew” Ugh. That part kills me every time
Got to admit. Out of all of the Morrissey/Smiths Tracks...Summer you do certainly choose the most unique. As obviously the Track is the ultimate love Note too..Come Back, to where you're most Loved & where you belong. Connotation. Love the Song. ❤
This album/track came out when my live-in girlfriend and I had broken up, in a horrible breakup, and it was a few months later and I'd just met somebody else, but wasn't quite over the breakup, and I got this song stuck in my head and for several weeks I was just singing it in my head at the beginning of this relationship that would go on to be essentially a transformation in my life, from young-me to older me. I was 30, unmarried, no kids. And to this day this song just hits me so hard, because it's kind of my later in life coming of age through this mixture of mourning a loss and being hopeful for the future, and not really knowing how to deal with either emotion. But somehow Morrissey summed it up for me.
It was lovely seeing you lost for words, it had that affect on me too, upon first listening. I suggest you investigate Gene. Start with Olympian or Where are They Now.
A very English song. Regret, loneliness, and tea. It's how we live.
Not now we don't
