Edit - Have now finished the game at around 40 hours in, and that's doing near on all of the sidequests and side events that came available. Story was actually pretty damn good with a bittersweet ending to it all - recommend it even more now. And even though the first game is referenced (and spoiled) in this game along with the anime, you can still enjoy this one without experiencing either of them. First time I've done this! Thank you to Koei Tecmo for providing me with a review code so that I could give Blue Reflection: Second Light a try before release! I hope you guys enjoy this one as much as I've been enjoying the game!
You have created my favorite gaming related channel on RUclips. From the structure and pace of your reviews down to listing the music you used, you’re killing it. From one Falcom fan to another, thanks for what you do.
Glad to know that Gust really improving their combat system since the first game, hope they keep experimenting and realesing new titles other than atelier series
I had my hopes high for this; it looked like a vast improvement over the first game and I'm very happy with both the time and money I invested. My playtime was close to the 100hr mark I almost got the True Ending, the reason I didn't is that you need max the friendship with all the girls to get it. It's not imposable to do in one playthrough but when you start crunching numbers like that. I think you're kind of missing the point of of the game itself. In New Game + this process is made a lot easier as the friendship starts at the halfway point for all the girls if you're reached that at least in your 1st run.
Not sure why anyone should be bothered by the yuri overtones unless they’re a raging homophobe! I love Gust soooo much and recommend you look for the first game if you have a PS4 it’s awesome too x
The game is worth it, just got Platinum today on my second playthrough along with the dlc. It's really fun along with the first one, I really hope that a third entry gets made.
I really love this game, I finished hard mode story yesterday so yes I feel a bit sad since their story make me turn to tears My ratings Plot: 8/10 Overall Character design: 9/10 Combat: 7/10 Mechanics: 7/10 My favorite character is shiho since her voice is very sweet and calm, I like her personality for being a good "housewife" xD And that's not all, her Reflector transformation is very sexy and her combat style is awesome since she is a support that can heals your party.
I just got the 1st one for a decent price on ebay atfer loving and buying the 2nd one day one it was soo good and i mloving the 1st one! These are some of my TOP rpgs even over persona 5
I saw this on the coming soon list on Switch but didnt think of much of it, thought it was more of a generic anime visual novel game or something .... but this video has shot this game right up on my radar! Very cool.
@@borgs101 I didn't, and liked it a lot. I will say that it spoils the ending of the first game, and there are definite references to the anime, but they kind of needed to touch on both to contribute to this narrative. You're not gonna get any context though as to how it all happened, so I dare say you could still enjoy the other two just as much.
Looking forward to this game! I'm interested and I think it's good (for now). I've played YS VIII as you suggested, it's really worth my time! Just gonna say thanks a lot for the recommendation! (although I didn't really enjoy I & II Chronicles, and origin), looking forward to other recommendations from you! Cheers!
@@Walamonga1313 might give it another shot later, I only played with Yufa and lost midway, I don't know where to go or what to do there's no pointer (typical early Ys games), but my first few hours are solid hacking n slashing, it was decent, but not my favorite definitely 😂
Your review actually made me wanna get the game lol, but even the standard version is really expensive on ps4 so I'll prob have 2 hold on to it till it gets cheaper or smth
Same, annoying that there's an "early purchase bonus" though ngl, they need to make it free DLC somewhere down the line (Although they won't since this is Koei Tecmo that we're talking about)
@@fierytigergaming8112 I don't mind the bonus tbh tho I can understand why some ppl get annoyed by it, I honestly just hope the game gets cheaper when a standard launch version comes out bc as much as I'm interested in the game I wouldn't pay that much for it
Didn't play the original, but this feels like mostly a standalone story with references to the old. When I played yesterday, there was a very minor nod to the anime, which was cool to hear but nothing that will affect someone who has yet to see it.
I have the first game on my list! I’ll bump it up now I think! Currently playing Sword Art Online Re Hollow Fragment, and not really feeling it so far tbh! Haha
@@TheKisekiNut I’m definitely finding that myself. I hate abandoning games…but I’ll give it another few hours and if it doesn’t grab me…I’ll have no choice. Too many other things to play haha.
I've been interested in the series for a while, but just haven't gotten around to it due to prioritizing other games on my backlog. The anime seems to be the easiest entry point for me at this point and will definitely add it to my queue. Anime are much easier for me to get around to than tackling a full jrpg.
I will say to temper your expectation for the anime. It was fine, but don't expect anything ground-breaking. Not sure what the exact reason was, but I think it was a mix of the animation style and the execution of some of the scenes.
@@TheKisekiNut Yeah, when it comes to anime adaptations of video games my expectations are quite low. Hard to fit the full story in a season or two. Who knows, I may just hold off and play the game when I get a chance.
Nope, only saw the anime. And even without that I'm certain I'd still enjoy it. Story feels mostly self contained, more similar to a later Ys game than Trails.
Yeah that was my bad. Meant to say it was a spin off from the original game, but missed that part out. From what I've played of this though, it seems they're paying reference to both the first title and the anime.
Once done with the rest of my backlog might pirate blue reflection games and go through them (fuck koei tecmo because of their pc ports quality, not to mention them shipping a freaking censorship patch on fairy tail rpg game day one, not giving them a single cent no more)

Congrats for the code man! This game's certainly caught my attention , i may try the first entry after finishing the Neptunia series.
Thank you for the review! I was hoping you’d do one. Now I think I’ll be getting this game!
Definitely worth it if you're a fan of Gust games.
Great review. This game is so beautiful to look at. The OST is in my Top 5 of all time and the combat system is really addictive.
"Odd shading with the game prioritizing hues of blue..."
Well. It is called Blue Reflection...
Never even knew this was a game but it looks like something up my alley especially since I just started delving into the atelier games
Pretty much the same, only realised it existed because I was playing a lot more Gust titles. Looked good, and glad I tried it.
i played the first game and beat it so im getting this , but im glad to see you like this studio and series as well.
I appreciate your review. It reminds me that I need to finish Blue Reflection, I have a couple more chapters left
Never played the original myself, only seen the anime. There are definitely references (though minor) to the previous title.
I bought the first one on impulse and it's the only reason I watched Ray.
Looks good. Will give it a go once I'm done with my Cold Steel project.
