This is just great. I'm really glad I found your channel, you have the best tutorials I've ever seen. Also, your speech is clear and steady, makes it really easy to understand, as English is not my first language.
Keep up the good work, and thank you very much!

What a great way of separating colour from detail. I'll be sure to use that in my own workflow.

Never realized the benefits of frequency separation in landscapes. The ability to push the sharpening really far without having to mask out areas by hand is great. Is this the process that the sharpening mask in Lightroom is based on?

Thanks, Jimmy - great examples. I'm familiar with frequency separation, but not competent with it and examples such as these are great for demonstrating how it can be applied in creative ways. It's not just for retouching skin in portraits, although it is brilliant for that as well. Thanks again!

Thanks Jimmy - I've a couple of shots that I think would immediately benefit as a test bed.

You can also use frequency separation to remove all sweeping blemishes found under textures as well as distortions caused by a camera's poorly rendered color and tones within an image. You may not want to do a wholesale a cleanup of one of the seven wonders of the world but if done with subtlety it is very effective with post-processing photos of other buildings and interiors.

I was wondering when you are working on the local layer and cleaning out the dust how is the image on your screen still showing the photo and not the grey one which is the actual local layer?

Those settings depend on if you are using 8 vs 16bit though.

  • @zoe20641

Are there different settings for an 8 or 16 bit image in the apply image dialogue box when forming the local texture layer? If there are, is your action specific for an 8 or 16 bit image?

For some reason my clone stamp tool is not working under this condition, on the "Local" layer, but it is on "normal ones".....
