For me the big advantage of the Q2 is the battery pack. I also own the SL2 and SL2-S and all three cameras are sharing the same battery packs. The Q2 is my main camera for weddings, so if I am just be able to take 200 shots per battery, this would be not enough. Here is a kind of a tip using the Q2… If you think you are close enough, get one step closer and you will get an outstanding subject isolation. And if you place your main subject a bit more in the middle of the picture, you won’t have any problems with distorion. I love the look of the pictures you can take with the 28 1.7 doesn‘t matter if you are using the Q or the Q2.
I am a fujifilm shooter. So why am I watching two leica camera's being compared? I enjoy listening to Samuel thoughts, and listening to he and his friend bicker about their camreas was actually wonderful. It also made me realize that cameras are cameras, it doesn't matter what brand, all brands have their idiosyncrasies. I also loved the jokes between two old friends, "I learned what you don't know." I need to see more with you two as a pair. Great clip.
I’m a Leica q owner and I have to say you guys made a video that made me so much more confident with my decision to get the Leica q over the q2. To me, the main thing is the fun colors the q gives vs the q2. Yes on paper the q2 is better with more megapixels, and weather sealing being the highlight, but honestly, just don’t go in the rain! I don’t like to be in the rain to begin with 😂. With that being said both cameras are amazing but I thank you guys for making this video and boosting my confidence! Im hugging my q as we speak :)
Just bought my Q yesterday, my reason choosing Q over Q2 is simply Q is $1000 less than Q2 and I never own any Leica before, don’t want to invest too much for my first Leica in case I don’t like it eventually, I also own a Sony A7riv, the Leica feels so different, photos are so sentimental, can’t produce such photos on the Sony’s the only downside of the Q is the EVF, the first time I would rather watch the LCD screen than the EVF, feels so poor performance.
I very much enjoyed this comparison. Here we are in August 2022 and I’m strongly debating getting the Q or Q2 after renting a Q for a week. Thank you for this video. Very helpful.
Great video! Handgrip and wrist strap are great for street photography. My custom configuration is : FN button set for iso, top wheel set for exposure correction and top button set for switch from screen to viewfinder (very important to save battery life). It's always a pleasure to see your videos!
After years using Sony mirrorless (mostly A9 and A7Riii these days), mostly for events, documentary, portraiture, PR photography, I recently bought a mint Q - my first Leica after 25 years of photography. It's a fantastic B camera for events, as long at the light doesn't get too low. I had a Sony RX1R then RX1Rii - both lovely, but somehow just too small and fiddly for work. The Q is so nice to work with, especially once you add a grip and thumb rest. Up to ISO 6400 it can give lovely, very usable files. Somehow the noise is just nicer looking than other brands, so I tend to leave it alone rather than use noise reduction. The AF is snappy and better than you'd imagine for a contrast detect only sensor. Manual focus is just a dream - the best I've used. But, oh, the lens! That's what it's all about for me really, that lens is so perfectly matched to the sensor. Would I get a Q2 if I could afford it? Definitely - just for the ability to crop and to disguise noise on full frame photos. But I'm super happy with my Q, it's such a dream to work with.
Great Fun to listen 🙂 You forgot to mention what sets them apart from almost all other cameras (except X100V): Leaf shutter! Flash syncing at any speed allows perfect daylight use even with a tiny Godox V350 at F1.7 in bright sunlight. Using my Q2 with an Artisan and Artist leather half case made in Japan.
@Wolfgang I have a question... I like the A&A half case but I’m hesitant because the back left top end is made for the Q (the Q2 has a bit bigger EVF), so could you please tell me if the EVF pushes the leather to the left leaving a gap, or does it also fit the Q2 nice?
Two Q-uties on Q and Q2. The Q has some very useful features for faster operation: The ISO key is great for fast setting and the shutter release has also the possibility to go from single shot to continue. I taped both the loudspeaker and the microphone holes to avoid dust or water to get into the body. The battery for the Q is the same as for some Lumix G models. I always carry two or three batteries. I put some anti slip tape into the thumb rest - did the same on my M-P 240 and M 240. I bought my Q second hand with less than 200 exposures on the counter. It's a supplement to my M-P 240, so I have not to change lenses. The anti slip tape is made by TESA.
Lim’s case for the Q2 is an awesome accessory with easy access to memory card and the battery. Enjoyed the nerd talk. Prefer the Q2 since it can used as a 28-35mm camera with plenty of resolution, and weather sealing. Loved the Q colors though
"I uh.. have a .. bigger one.." lol. The random levity at all levels makes these videos especially entertaining. I'm definitely going to pick up an original Q. Used prices in the US cratered after the Q3 launched and then again after the wait times on Q3 pushed back a few months- making people get very Gollum about it ha. I really enjoy this format for camera reviews. No stats nonsense that any idiot can google in four seconds. Just footage of the features in use while discussing their nuances. The focus peaking real-time disable on shutter press is mentioned literally nowhere- and it's ridiculously helpful. Video is full of that stuff. Super nice work!
Thanks for the video! I thought I was going crazy. I definitely noticed the ‘wider feel’ of this lens as well. I just thought maybe I haven’t used 28mm as much and needed to adjust myself. I have gotten use to it though but sometimes I can’t unsee it haha
For a few seconds, I thought to myself... "hmm... Those guys seem like totally reasonable people. Maybe, buying a Leica is totally reasonable." Then I remembered that I'm not a professional and I have other hobbies and, oh yeah, wife and kids. :P

Haha, I know exactly how you feel right now. The answer should be easy if you know what you want from a camera. Especially because the X100V and the Q/Q2 have different focal lengths! If I would enjoy 35mm as much or more than 28mm I would not consider a Q! The 35mm crop function is not the same as using a 35mm lens. But you have to find your answers yourself :) Good luck haha.
I'm normally decisive over camera purchases but as this would be my first Leica, I'm conflicted. Things Id like are the weather sealing and the battery life of the Q2 thing I don't need is the 47mp files. my pref at the moment is the Q but then I'm concerned about buying a used digital so much that could go wrong with them. great comparison vid plenty to think about cheers fellas

Seems like a great Leica option if you only shoot 28mm. It must be nice! Wanted to get the Elmarit 28mm because of Samuel's videos, but got an ZM biogon instead (cheaper and silver option readily available), which I am enjoy using.
As a Q2 owner, some shooting tips I have is while using the viewfinder, the Q2 does have an option to use the viewfinder and drag your finger on the touchscreen to move your focus point. That way you don't have to use the D-pad. I find it pretty effective to use this technique. It's similar to other cameras that have that feature such as the Fuji's.
Secondly, I also use that same Lim's Design Case on the Q2. I actually returned the Leica hand grip in favor of the Lim's Design for multiple reasons. The Lims half case has a leather cover to it which helps for protecting not only the front of the camera so your nails or greasy, sweaty fingers don't cause wear a tear on the front of the Leica textured front but it also provides grip on the back right of the camera. The back right of the camera is very smooth and without some kind of texture there, it can be a bit slippery. The Leica hand grip does provide great grip support, however it does not protect the front texture of the camera from your fingers or fingernails, and it doesn't provide added grip or help minimize wear on the back right of the camera. If you shoot this camera frequently, the back right of the camera's metal frame will start to go from the matte black to ultra shiny. If that's not your preference, then some type of protection or half case would be recommended. Also, the Lim's Half case does have an arca swiss plate on it which assists for using with an arca swiss compatible tripod plate. Also protects the base of your camera if you ever plan on reselling in the future. The Leica hand grip doesn't have an built in tripod plate although it does have a screw mount on the bottom where you can attach a tripod plate of choice. One knock on the Lims half case is the the actual finger grip is very smooth with no texture on it. It may be a bit too slippery for some users as it's like holding onto a slick metal surface. I think the Leica hand grip has great texture on this area. Just some of my findings. Hope this helps someone out who's thinking about purchasing one.
It really annoys me when people say that the Summilux 1.4 is the same as the Summilux 1.7! Especially when they say that when you buy the Leica Q, you're essentially buying the lens, and you get the camera as a gift. But that's like saying the EOS R6 Mark II RF24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM Lens Kit costs $2300, and the RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z costs $3000! So that means you bought almost the same lens and got the camera for free, and even saved money!
The Q-P is just a Q without the red dot on the front and Leica script on the top. There is no functional or image quality difference between the Q and the Q-P.
I finally got my dream camera last week which is the leica Q. I was strongly considering the Q2 but someone offered me a mint Q with low shutter count and clean sensor for 2000usd. the cheapest q2 I found was $4k so it's a no brainer for me. So happy with the Q tho. The iq is really cleaner and give you that 3d look on portraits compared to my fuji shots. Q is still holding up 6 years after its release. The biggest thing I noticed that's showing its age is the lcd, my fuji's lcd is much better imo tho the evf is still quite good on the Q.
Great video, very entertaining and informative. If could get one wish, I would love someone to talk about „How to correct the framing in the rangefinder to get the wanted composition.“
Hi Sam! Nice chill video. To my eye the Q2 colors look like …Sony ;) so glad I went with a Q. Although 28 is still too wide for me and lately I’ve been looking for an M.
Hey Samuel! Thanks for that fun video, still you’re missing out on the main difference between those cameras in terms of ISO performance in low light. Checked my Q against the Q2 and didn’t find any improvement on the new one I even think that in a higher ISO range the old Q is superior. So no need to upgrade here if you don’t need the resolution but who does anyway? Talking about the Summilux 28 1.4 it’s still in a price range above the Q2 and in terms of look even offering a better subject separation. The Q/Q2 are somewhat in between a Summilux and a Summicron.
I have a Q2 mono for about one month now and I love…so much fun…don`t care about colors…just about light….what do you think about the Q2 mono…? …and thanks again for the funny and informative vid…
I would love the weather sealing, better button layout, and battery of the Q2; but the low light and especially the performance below ISO 1600 of the Q2 is almost unusable. Plus the image files of the Q2 are massive and require a newer and more powerful computer to properly process. The fact that a Q-P in excellent condition is only a few hundred dollars less than a Q2 is testimony to how well the Q has held up. I used to shoot Fuji, so I'm no stranger to lousy battery life. Honestly, just buy a few more. (FYI, I would buy a 35 in a heartbeat)
Getting Sony A7C with the 40/2.5 G is saving more money and you get the by far better AF, incl. RTT and EyeAF. I tried a lot of cameras, finally the A7C is the best for street.
It is far superior in AF and cost saving. The A7c isn't cheap but the Leica experience is really superior. Very pleasant to use and it makes you want to keep going out to shoot. Put aside Leica look or its lens, the ergonomics and handling is just a different level. Although, i'd trust the a7c on professional shoots more than the Q or Q2. Battery life on the A7c is also superior and the S-log video.
Buy the lens, get a free camera! 1957 Konica III "The lens alone is worth the price!" $124.75 ($1398.25 today) Basically the price of a X100V. (M3 with Summicron 50 $444, or $5101 today; IIIG w/Elmar 50mm, $234, $2688 today). Camera prices for high end gear have gone up less than we think sometimes, and that for better lenses and more capable gear.
Hi, thanks for the video. I noticed you have different lens hood on the cameras, Witch is better? I was told that the ventilated was big and it shows in the viewfinder? And the square one is prone to get chips in the front like we see in your video?
Agree with Sam's point on the lens a bit wider than true 28mm, i think its the main reason why i sold my Q back then, while the Crop mode i've felt not sharp enough and i guess thats why Q2 boost the megapixel so you don't feel "guilty" when cropping. But man, Q2 is just still out of reach for me, the used price here currently high.
Wherever I can find them. I got mine from place called asgoodasnew (MPB seems to be a good nplace too) but I also buy from ebay. But if you buy something very expensive its good to find a proper store who can give you warranty.
Hallo Samuel, Great video again. I follow your channel for a while now and I just love it. I am also searching for a while now for a perfect camera, which I can keep for the next 5 years. I am struggling between the Q and the M 262. Maybe you can tell me, what made you to sell the 262 and are you now more happy with the Q2? I think this will help me with my decision, since we have a similar approach to photography and cameras. Thanks! Grüße aus Stuttgart:)
I love your videos. Keep them coming, no matter how inane :) . A minor correction: the focus peaking in manual focus mode on my Fujis (XE2 and XT3) does switch off with the half press of the shutter.
about the focus peaking. My fuji X-T2 does exactly the same as you said. When half pressing, the focus peaking disappears. I never experienced other cameras with focus peaking, but I thought this was the norm. hahahaha
Nice video... Best joke is: ... Ricoh has Phase-Detection. --- Yes, you can turn on Face-Detection in Leica too ;) (Sounds same, means different) at 6:10
Hi Sam, just saw this video as I’m searching for Q2 info. I would like to add a Q2 to my M10R for events, wedding etc. I’m wondering how difficult it will be to match Colour’s from both sensors. Using either LR or CaptureOne. Thanks.
Nice video again Samuel I hope more information about the comparison just a little bit quicker than I thought, but I understand the camera recording your video the battery problem hope you do the episode 2 or continuation of it thanks 😅🙏😁📸👍
Yes that was a little short when we switched the topic because the battery died... We will probably not do another comparison because you can see it all in the sample images :) As you can see they are both very similar once you match them. The Q as more red and the Q2 has a more neutral color. I think I actually prefer the Q2 because it is easier to work with the colors.
Hi Samuel! Great video. I am in the market for a q2, and was wondering where you got yours for 3.5kEuro. I'll be in Europe in July, maybe I could get one. Ps: any idea if the prices will drop because of the q3 release?
Hey Joao! I got min eon a website called asgoodasnew. Resellers that offer a warranty a good option and sometimes you can find low prices. And I am sure the prices for Q2's are going to drop because of the Q3. Just got to look out for those who want to upgrade and are unpatient :) Good luck! And enjoy your europe trip
Well I tested it with a tripod and you can see the difference in this video :) it’s not much but the aggressive distortion correction of the Q makes it feel wider as well.
If you’re buying new you might get the 28Cron for a bit less money than the Q2. The Cron is a tiny bit sharper but offers a fraction less subject separation. Colours and contrast are pretty much on par. Pros for the Q? You get a second camera in addition to your M and a Macro Mode that the M doesn’t have to offer. That opens up a lot new creative possibilities. Money to burn? Get the Q.
wow. quite shocked by the colour differences. did you both use adobe color profile in Lightroom ? I would be curious to see if your q2 could have better colours with Cobalt Image profile .. so much better than adobe ones..I use it for my q-p and much prefer it .
@@SamuelStreetlife yes it s a pretty new company I believe .. I find it does give me better true to life colours with smoother transition . I want to upgrade from Q-P to Q2 but I would love to see if it's adobe profile that does make your q2 look a nit greenish and if the colours improve with a better profile .. keep us posted ! 😉 thanks
The difference is, when you lift your finger from the shutter button on the Fuji, the peaking turns on again. On the Q, it stays off, until you manual focus again. Very nice feature.
My acting at the beginning is so good that Hollywood called.

If could get one wish, I would love someone to talk about „How to correct the framing in the rangefinder to get the wanted composition.“
I just had my Q2~ TOO, I will buy the 35mm for sure~~ if they made one!
Next time you’re in Munich, give me a shout. I have the Q2 Monochrom and would be happy for you to review if you want.
Both cameras plus their lenses are very good just go and take pictures !!!
Hi Sam! Nice chill video. To my eye the Q2 colors look like …Sony ;) so glad I went with a Q. Although 28 is still too wide for me and lately I’ve been looking for an M.
I have an M240 for sale!
@@pinmag Thanks! I’m looking more in the direction of a CCD censor, so m9/m8.Good luck finding a new home for your m240!
@@dianakorniichenko I understand that desire haha
Leica Q2 😍Hervorragendes Video wie immer Samuelux und Elmarit! Karincron darf auch nicht fehlen. :D
Was ein kreativer kommentar 🤣 da muss man erstmal drauf kommen haha
great picture quality of video, what did you shot it on?
I have a Q2 mono for about one month now and I love…so much fun…don`t care about colors…just about light….what do you think about the Q2 mono…?
…and thanks again for the funny and informative vid…
Top tier dry humor 😂😂
hehe glad you liked it 😂
I would love the weather sealing, better button layout, and battery of the Q2; but the low light and especially the performance below ISO 1600 of the Q2 is almost unusable.
The A7c has some intriguing aspects, including interchangeable lenses, but the viewfinder would be a non-starter for me. But to each, his own.
Hey, Samuel like your vids!!
I'm ur new subscriber, but do you have any thoughts comparing the Leica M series with the Q2?
As Fuji and Sony user i liked Q colors much🤩
Buy the lens, get a free camera!
Congrats for the video. Question, where do you buy second hand cameras?
Wherever I can find them. I got mine from place called asgoodasnew (MPB seems to be a good nplace too) but I also buy from ebay. But if you buy something very expensive its good to find a proper store who can give you warranty.
Hoping there are side by side shoot comparison. Thanks
Must be nice… even 2nd hand still pricey :( nice video by way. Good to see more new guests.
Hallo Samuel,
Great video again.
Yes, but it turns on again when you lift your finger. On the Q it stays off, until you turn the focus ring again.
Great video. Did you use the filter on the Q2 when compare with the Q?
The intro is hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
What is the little tag hanging off the Q's left strap hanger?
hello the only difference I noticed between the two, the iso of the QP are more efficient than the Q2
great video guys!
about the focus peaking.
My fuji X-T2 does exactly the same as you said. When half pressing, the focus peaking disappears.
I never experienced other cameras with focus peaking, but I thought this was the norm. hahahaha
my favorite Leica Q also love mine, you too?
Yes!
Thanks.
Great Video, could you do a low light comparison please.
They just need to come out with the Q2P already lol
Hey, i hope you had a great time in Hamburg.
If you have the Q then no need to upgrade to Q2 , used that money to get Q Monochrom .
nice! that was very funny & useful!
@@SamuelStreetlife thanks for the response! Keep up the good work, I really like your videos.
@7:12 ? My Fuji X-2s has focus peak disappear with a half pressed shutter 🤷♂️
Nice video as always. See ebay prices are. Crazy used even more than new
What is best website to find used
What's with the different lens shade?
I have both the Q2 and GRIII and I would say they are exactly the same focal length.
Well I tested it with a tripod and you can see the difference in this video :) it’s not much but the aggressive distortion correction of the Q makes it feel wider as well.
It must be nice....
I like Elmar's wristwatch. Is it a G-shock? Do you know the model?
Here it is: G-Shock G-Squad Black GBD-200-1ER 🤝
Dropped as im looking for a Q2
I wish Leica will make a "Q" Camera with 60+ megapixels sensor, 9.5+ mill. dots EVF and Leica M mount !
The video description should’ve been “Leica Q2 vs Leica Q too” for people that still don’t get the joke…
$2000 for a Q? On eBay they are selling at $3500 all day long😂Update: Just got one in mint condition for $2500⚡
I would love to do long exposures at night with my Q but for some reason Leica limits us on bulb mode, did they fix this with the Q2
I was planning on getting the 28 cron for my m10 and m6 but been considering the Q2 for while now. Would appreciate your thoughts on this 😊
If you’re buying new you might get the 28Cron for a bit less money than the Q2. Get the Q.
@@andyjones5192 thank you for the reply. I wish I had cash to burn 😅
Time to pop open a beer and watch Samuel.
wow. quite shocked by the colour differences. did you both use adobe color profile in Lightroom ? I would be curious to see if your q2 could have better colours with Cobalt Image profile .. so much better than adobe ones..I use it for my q-p and much prefer it .
I never heard about Cobalt profiles. I will check it out! Thanks :) Yes I used the adobe standard color profile for each camera.
😉 thanks
Yasss!
Yeah I have Leica Q too !!
Are you sure about that focus peaking when I half press on my X100V the peaking turns off.
Yes but its only off as long as you hold down the shutter button. Once you lift your finger its back on.
The difference is, when you lift your finger from the shutter button on the Fuji, the peaking turns on again. On the Q, it stays off, until you manual focus again. Very nice feature.
Is there an issue scratching the EVF with glasses?
At least not for me 😊
@@Ostblockjunge Thanks Elmer. I’m very curious on this as Others have said it’s a problem
7:15 X100v focus peaking turns off when you half press the shutter.
What happens when you lift your finger? :)
It's a nice combo.
All i need is leica to come out with a leica Q with a 35mm. 28 is too wide for me :D
But you can crop in both camera in 35mm if you want or in post processing
Yes cropping is an option but the image still feels like a 28mm (because of the distortion). Some are okay with that, some are not.
hahah love the intro
“Once you go Leica the world is yours”
You need to offer classes in Bad Acting.
Why should I buy a Q VS a GR 3 ?
Size and viewfinder or not.
It’s not a lens with a free body, bc when the camera dies the lens is useless.
I really still don't understand why the Lola Flores is so expensive...
Ist das eine deutsche Mode, alles mit Aufkleber zu zupflastern?
Man muss nicht immer mit einem Logo rumlaufen
In the beginning you buy a "cheap" Summilux 28, with a body for free and at the end of life of the electronic, you will give away the Summilux 28 ;-)
Das wichtigste an einer Q/Q2 ist: man hat eine!
What is that generic Q grip?
It's one from LIM'S. Google LIM'S leather case Leica Q and you should find it :)
@@SamuelStreetlife yes thats the grip. Try to get it used, much cheaper.
@@SamuelStreetlife The one I have does not have that finger grip. I like the thumb holder. I do have 'Q' uick battery and SD access.
@@SamuelStreetlife Thanks!
The Q and Q2 are more like two different cameras. More like two camera individuals :))))
