    Hi my name is Emi. My #vanlife story starts in September 2018. After a long-term relationship that I was trying for more than a year to rebuild, I decided it was time to end this toxic relationship once for all. This is where I decided to move away from this man that I was still in love with. I put all my belongings inside my SUV (GMC Jimmy) and moved six hours from where I was living. I didn’t know where I would sleep, didn’t know where I would work but I knew I needed to make a drastic move. At that time, I told myself I will only sleep in my car for a month while looking for a place to rent. What I didn’t know is that one month became another month and another month. In the end, I end up sleeping in my car for a full year. Even if people will consider this the lowers time of my life, this experience was the best thing I couldn’t have done with my life. I took that year to focus on myself, decide what I wanted, and most importantly what I didn’t want. That year made me also realize that for so long, I was chasing the wrong dreams. I was chasing what society wanted me to be: to have a big house, a steady job, kids, get married… None of those dreams was making me happy. In September 2019, while I was actively looking for a van, I received a phone call that someone had found my cat (Kelly). After, trying for hours with no success to communicate with my ex-boyfriend (who was taking care of her), I decided to drive the six hours to go pick her up. Without going into too much detail, it turns out he wasn’t able to take care of her anymore. So I brought her in a cat kennel for a couple of days until I found a van we both could live in. I put all the savings that I had accumulated while living in my car and bought my van (a 2011 Ford Econoline that I end up adding a hightop) In the beginning, It wasn’t so glamour. My cat and I were sleeping on a mattress on the floor of the van. We both had to adjust. Now, my cat loves this lifestyle as much as I do; she looks at the window while I’m driving and she loves exploring new places. Since then, my cat Kelly and I are have been living full-time in my self convert van.

    If you want to stop any of the joints from spinning on the table, you could just drill a hole through the overlap and put a screw in to lock them together. Its called a set screw. Good Luck!

    • @northbound5493
      @northbound5493 2 года назад +2

      if you cant get a set screw installed you could try clocking (rotating) the base that attaches to the wall so that it reaches the end of the pipe threads in the level position. might work might not but could be worth a try in the meantime. the plate to reinforce the base is a great idea and definite must do

      Question would the threads strip if table is too heavy?

    • @SB-xu8pi
      @SB-xu8pi 2 года назад

      @@spikedodson3194 If your question is directed to me, the set screw could be used all the way through both parts, eliminating any movement, if you decide to only thread the outer fitting, the screw would rely on pressure to hold, but would retain the ability to change angles.

    One of the mistakes in creating a Lagun table is that people put the connector in the center of the table top, when it is off set it works better. Use a piece of cardboard for a template to see which position best suits your needs. Failure is the best motivating of Creativity. Merry Christmas !

    On the pipe just tighten it up all the way and use some "Locktite" The nipple will bottom out in the elbow and locktite should keep the other piece from moving :) good luck :) Merry Xmas :)

    I have just done this same table method as saw that Brian from Adventure Van Man did. He uses a pvc pipe that is attched to the wall and the long pipe fits in it - rests on floor. He can then remove the pipe and table. I have the same method but am leaving the pipe in the pvc pipe and will swing it out to extend my kitchen counter.

    AAAAh, i love it. There are easy things to fix this. You do not need a welder for the Table. Just tighten everything, very well. If you have a drill, just put a hole through one joint which should not move and then put a screw there and it will lock it. You could also just put a rod there without screwing it. Then you can take out the rod when you want to move it. You can also make several holes to lock it even into more positions. Sorry, english is not my native language! Also chrome has a welder now ;-) *hint hint* Hope it helps, happy christmas to you both.

    Loved this video! PS, that's how those water pumps fit on the bottles. Seems like it's too big, but I have a similar one and it sits loose like that too. I thought the same thing at first. Emmy, I have the same pipework system. (1)to get the table clearing the cupboard, just move the under-table fitting a bit..put in one screw and try until right. (2) you can buy a steel weld glue to put on the thread of the lower elbow to stop it swivelling. (3)Also, to stop the table from swinging when you are driving, I attached a cupboard hook and chain to the underside of the table and to the cupboard. (4)Test you can open your fridge lid fully and the 1st elbow is not blocking it.
    Great to see ingenuity at work!

    I saw someone just set it on top! And I went oh! That’s how you use it. I thought it needed to seal to work. It doesn’t tighten! Silly huh? I learned I learned! I thought it was a fail. But just keep your lids when traveling! I’m glad I kept mine, but…. You can’t leave it on. Maybe a silicone ring would hold it on. I just haven’t tinkered with it yet. Great video.

    Those aren’t fails at all, Emi!! As a retired teacher, one thing I would always tell my students was, “Make “mistakes”!! Make lots of mistakes!!That’s how we learn the best lessons. It’s the initiative to do it yourself that is the most important thing. ANYBODY can go out and buy a table or water system, or they can have someone else do it for them, but you are building your own, and all you are doing right now is working the bugs out. Great work so far, and I can’t wait to see your final results!

    I did the same thing in the back of my truck except I mounted it from the floor. It has been an excellent addition to my very small home on the road. Also, I have some extra sized pieces of wood to accommodate different uses. These other shelves are used in other areas as needed. I just keep everything loose for ease of use. When the shelve is removed, I loop a long tie wrap and suspend it so that it doesn’t fly around when I’m driving and the tie wrap supports the weight and keeps everything floating as it were.

    Emi, projects usually don't work out perfectly the first time. What if you use a pipe bracket to hold the pipe to the wall. Two screws - one on each side of the pipe that curves over the pipe. It would hold it in place on the wall. You could then still slide the table in and out and no welding will be required. Probably a dollar at Home Depot. You got this!

    Pick up a rubber ring for your water bottle. Make sure its wide to hold your pump steady. Home depot have all kinds of sizes take your pump into store with you to get good tight size.

    just tighten the threads that you don't want to spin until they stop with a pipe wrench and maybe some loc-tight. Then re-install and the only joints that move will be the one that you left loose

    use red lock tite on the threads to glue it in place

    I made a similar thing for a monitor mount. To prevent the tilt at the wall, I used 1 angle, 1 T, 2 connector threads, 1 6 inch length of pipe, & 2 of the 4 hole mounts like you used. Instead of coming out the side of the mount, I attached the swing arm to the top of the T joint. The tilting was removed with the extra mount keeping it from having any play.

    Or drill a hole thru the base & use a set screw thru to pipe to keep it stable

    Get a wide rubber black bungee cord small one . You might need to wrap around twice. Make sure there is enough room under water spout to overlap onto water bottle. Tight. ( it’s basically taping the two together with a bungee cord)but it will hold pump to water bottle. I hope I explained it well enough.

    SB,, you beat me, I had that idea too. If you get tired of the faucet being loose, a bit of small tubing or rubber inside the faucet connector, when you get the right size,, some glue to make stay.

    Hiya EMI, I think maybe all you need is a pipe wrench & enough strength to tighten the connection between the last thread closest to the wall. It needs to be super tight- just the lower one though. I'm usually not bad at problem solving & thinking outside the box. I really enjoy the challenge. So glad to see you feeling better after migraine & back pain! I know it takes so much strength out of us to deal with these so happy you are good now. Hugs to you & Kelly Kat from this old lady! 💙💜🌹🐈🌲⛄

    The easy solution for your water pump is to add a little piece of cloth around the bottle entrance to add volume and pressure to tigh.. hope you understand me hugs from Cancun Mexico
