@Puckman637 I didn't have the money for college and the insane amounts of debt people were comming out with and still going no where in life. Seemed like an astronomical amount of risk for little to no reward.
Education does not have to mean school. Some of the stupidest people I've ever met were very well "educated" in school but not life. What they teach in school you can read in books available to the public. The idea of an educated person has been hijacked by the colleges as a means to push people into going to school so they can get rich and indoctrinate but an educated person is actually just someone who learns about things in any setting.

I love the unapologetic part. When someone is that scathing about the great figures in history that created the world as we know it-they deserve an earful. As Michael said, it’s truly myopic to not appreciate our current state we’re it not for such heroes. How fking brave was Colombus? There’s no comparison today to what he did. Sailing into the unknown, where the vast majority of people thought they’d sail off the cliffs at the edge of the earth. Where any number of sea monsters and creatures and savage natives awaited them assuming they even found these new lands. And that doesn’t even mention the real world problems they faced with 13th century tech and medicine. Flying off to Mars isn’t half as terrifying as what Colombia did during his time.

A brief web search revealed this, many more like it: Like many European explorers, Christopher Columbus encountered indigenous people throughout his voyages. There are three main sources of controversy involving his interactions with the indigenous people he labeled “Indians”: the use of violence and slavery, the forced conversion of native peoples to Christianity and the introduction of a host of new diseases that would have dramatic long-term effects on native people in the Americas. In an era in which the international slave trade was starting to grow, Columbus and his men enslaved many native inhabitants of the West Indies and subjected them to extreme violence and brutality. On his famous first voyage in 1492, Columbus landed on an unknown Caribbean island after an arduous three-month journey.

Silmarrillion123 well bless your heart. It’s a shame you don’t have time to look into contemporary sources that spoke of him. The natives that he first met were friendly with him, and even looked to the Spanish to protect them from the cannibal tribe that had been terrorizing them. The Caribs (as the Spanish called them) even murdered 39 of Columbus’ men that he left there after his first voyage. Columbus was kind and generous. Christopher Columbus was taller than average and as a young man had reddish hair, born in Genoa Italy, he likely had a fair amount of Viking in his bloodline. His name/influence is everywhere, Columbia is how we use it most frequently, the name of the royal Kings College on Manhattan island was changed to Columbia College (later University) in his honor, Washington DC, the District of Columbia, named for two men without which the USA would not exist, even CBS TV Columbia Broadcasting Station, Columbia Picture studios and multiple cities, schools etc. Amerio was the first name of the map maker who was commissioned to servey and draw the coast and islands of the New World so the continents are named America, but they might well have been named North and South Columbia. He was, and should be considered, a good man, a hero.

Where can I find the document that Columbus' political rival? I can't seem to find it on the internet, and I need it for an debate with my English teacher.
I don't know what came before this poor soul's humiliation but if you read virtually any historical record of Columbus's voyage it states that he first landed in the Bahamas then Cuba and Haiti. He was looking for China but never found it. He also never placed a foot on North America. Lief Eriksson was the first westerner to do that in Greenland and Canada many years before Columbus set sail. This is not to say that Columbus didn't achieve greatness by sailing across the Atlantic in wimpy wooden ships, but he didn't discover America and he got himself stripped of his rank and thrown into a Spanish jail for some of his less than exemplary actions.
My response would have been to urge the student to study world history (or at least to watch the Fall of Civilizations channel) from which he will learn that one group of people have been enslaving other groups of people for at least 3000 years, and this it is still being done in certain areas of the world. It is ridiculous to believe that only "white" people living at this time in history and in this nation are racists, and should feel guilty for what happened prior to 1965. A truly intelligent person would say: "I am not responsible for what people did prior to the day I became a mature adult nor will I accept blame or feel guilty for what they believed and did, but I will - as a mature adult - do what I can to discourage racist beliefs and actions."
The truth can be unpleasant, either because it's too unpleasant for you to tolerate or it's not what you agree with. But the truth is far more important than what you want to hear.

She got the go ahead as long as she was inclusive.but When Thanksgiving roled around she put up basic Thanksgiving cutout decorations. A turkey, and some native Americans and pilgrims holding hands. The next day she was confronted by the principal about maybe taking down her decorations do to them being offensive. The principal said they got a complaint that said someone didn't like the "glorification of murder by the pilgrims to the Indians." The teacher said she wouldn't take her decorations down 3days before Thanksgiving, and since when are we bowing down to people trying to molest history. Bravo👏

I remember growing up in the 80s and 90s, when EVERYONE from my teachers, to my parents, all the way to my youth pastor talked about how important it was to get into college and become "educated" Pleased as punch I didn't listen to that bit of advice. These people...yeesh.
@@mortimerbrewster3671 I chose old ass books and the military. Figured the best way to learn what it's like beyond our beautiful shores was to pack up and go. Learned more about people and life in my 3ish years in the military than I ever did from school. Had my mind blown by the things I read and how much the school books cut and edited historical events compared to the real documents, letters, and articles from that time period.
I want to attend university for finance - is that a bad idea?
Tucson Jim What you are being taught and what you learn are more important than anything else. Learning something technical and practical has tremendous value.
Do all universities secretly have a subject called “idiotology”?
No. It’s just taught with most courses.
Perhaps the saddest thing of all is that these are basically children who have a recently left their very feathered nests, desperate to be heard and considered wise, grasping desperately onto something that gives them some sort of meaning and fills the void of their lack of substantive individuality. They need the hive
@@TommyNitro It's not taught. Today, students/people believe what they read on the internet. 15 million pages of idiotology. Whereas 40 years ago, we believed in the books mentioned by Knowles. We really didn't have much of a choice. To refute the facts meant finding a written page of idiotology. lol
I hate that!!! Teachers, and most importantly University professors should shut up about politics!!! Children should never be manipulated into their way of thinking! I was in school one and a half year ago, and all I was hearing was: "Trump is an idiot", "our country’s right wing opposition is incorrect", and "form your own opinions". So I did. I decided to actually fact check a few things and go against what they tried to get me to think. What schools and parents and society’s general should teach young people is critical thinking, researching, and forming an opinion based on facts. Not which political side is best.
I am at the University now, and let me tell you one thing: I’m getting that degree, but I’ll be damned if I let anyone decide for me what I can say or think! Especially not these history ignoring sheep…

Great analysis. Thank you for clearing up this topic.
Its strange to me that Columbus is denigrated for discovering a wonderful new world. But no one speaks out against the Spanish for sending him. Or for the theft of native gold and silver, and the taking of slaves and genocide of Central, South and North American natives. Whole peoples were wiped out by the Conquistadors, yet I hear no outrage.

They made some low wide gallows on which the hanged victim's feet almost touched the ground, stringing up their victims in lots of thirteen, in memory of Our Redeemer and His twelve Apostles, then set burning wood at their feet and thus burned them alive."

Also I think that there were two or three of these gridirons, garnished with the like furniture, and for that they cried out pitifully, which thing troubled the Captain that he could not then sleep: he commanded to strangle them."
4. "After that we were come into the province, one and twenty lords and caciques came to receive us, whom the Captain apprehended incontinently, breaking the safe conduct which I had made them, and intending the day next following to burn them alive, saying that it was expedient so to do, for that otherwise those lords one day, would do us a shrewd turn. A brief web search revealed this, many more like it:
Like many European explorers, Christopher Columbus encountered indigenous people throughout his voyages.

IDK if someone mentioned it (I don't see it in the comments)..."student" is wearing a
"Columbia" vest named in honor of Maestro Cristoforo Colombo, aka "Ammiraglio dell'Oceano Mare",... ("The Admiral of the Sea").

Much respect to these guys who go from campus to campus and challenge these people.
So correct, and truthful.
Yes.
