Viva Gabfriela, one of the most unique talents in the world today. Her improvisations are second to none.
Gabriela Montero is a great artist and a unique, outsanding talent. I am very happy, she composed "the Latin" piano concerto. Overwhelming talent, yet she is such a humble and loving person. Real talent is above arrogance.
How does she do what she does?
Even knowing "how to improvize", this is very high class!

What an unfortunate omission in classical music education! All students of music should be encouraged to improvise right from the very beginning.

Some musicians are not interested in improvisation, or cannot do it, but are nevertheless great performers. I am always careful not to make prescriptive statements that apply to all people, as such statements are likely to be horribly unfair to those for whom they don't really fit.
Unfortunate is MUCH too generous; its a tragic failing, all the more absurd in that just 100 years ago they all improvised, and even recent masters like Horowitz and Rubenstein did....Worse, i fin its associated with the waay that all too many music "teachers" are intent at killing the joy kids feel for music (alas, all too many teachers in ALL subjects do that)...another connection is that, for pianists at least, a lot of them dont really know their music theory well, watched a master class w/Murry Perhahia and none of the students could describe what was happending musically, only impressionisticaly.
@@david203 in former times all composer were virtuosos, usually on multiple instruments, and in former times all performers could improvise

A wonderful art which 'classical' musician/composer/improvisers practised up until to about 150 years ago as a matter of course. Thank you, Gabriela.
Her playing of Brahms proves her unlimited, infinit musical genius. Brahms has in his music much of the latin music and Gabriela Montero is finely closing a huge circle in time between Brahms and her, and geographically between true German music and latin American music. Gabriela Montero is beyond her musical genius also a great pianist, one of the greatest ever been.

I'm a drummer. The way she keep time from 37:00 to 37:30 is mind blowing! (and immediately followed by a tempo fluctuation!)

I discovered this amazing artist through an article about her in the London Evening Standard newspaper and checked her out on RUclips. I AM SO GLAD I DID! The best find for a long time! I was recovering from pneumonia and soon got better - does lovely music have healing power?

The rapport between you and the audience is great. The improvisations were fantastic as usual. I mostly enjoyed the first two. You practically made a symphony out of the German National Anthem. Even tough Brahms is not my favorite, your interpretation of his pieces made me like his music more. These are really beautiful and romantic pieces. Your Ginastera was overwhelmingly Latin-American, you play it as if it were one of your own compositions. What a great recital. A musical feast. The fact that you try to break the ice and create a relaxing environment so you and your audience feel more comfortable (at home) and connected by interacting with them with a microphone, is great. I have to say though that I honestly think (constructive comment) that the wine thing doesn't benefit your image and it is certainly not a good message to the youngest ones in the audience (or the youngest youtube viewers) ... I love it when the whole public sings to you; I'm not a religious man but you can definitely feel God's love vibrating in the entire hall ... By the way, your hair looks great here. You make our country proud. Bravo!!

Very nice improvisation, no doubt we are in front of a genius.. it's just a pity that, in the first song (Puccini) the first interval would have been a Fifth instead of a fourth. But "chapeaux"

17:30 Improvisation isn´t as spontanious as she thinks. She uses schems too, but isn´t obviously aware of it.
Cierto, a veces usa esquemas. Pero hay algo más, como por ejemplo, el saber cómo integrarlos y embellecer la pieza.
