I have the same exact car. Was my sister's for the first 5 years. I've had it since 1979. Still runs great. All stock, xcpt for exhaust and external oil cooler.
Thanks for watching Ollie. That is so cool. Give us all a video on that! Until recently I had a 1954 VW Beetle with the original 36HP and crash box transmission. While it showed signs of its age is scooted down the road exceptionally well! Never been rebuilt but smoked just little bit. Pretty amazing that these cars were built to last a lifetime! Everything made today is planned for obsolescence...
We typically restore and recondition 8 to 9 VW Beetles of all years. Currently we have 7 models in construction from early year rag tops to late model convertibles. The majority of the time the cars sell before construction is finished. It is rare to find a car that has found a series of circumstances that make it a wonderful piece of history. Most people will besurprised at the unique pricing...and then there are those few that make the purchase within ten minutes from their iphone! Thx4lkn
Yep! You are actually correct on all counts. We like to keep our cars exactly as they were born, which is not always how they came from the factory. Basically whatever is on the purchase agreement when the car left the dealer showroom becomes the pedigree of the original car. One of our one owner cars has the window sticker, purchase agreement, and loan papers for the new car purchase. Interestingly the car has after market Western wheels, which on the the dealer purchase agreement.
Thanks for checking out the video. This car was sold to the Micro Car Museum within 2 days of when the video was posted. You can visit the museum online with a Google search.
For anyone watching this old video, there is no need to row through all 3 forward gears. Drive 1 and Drive 2 are the preferred gears for everyday driving. So simple. People overcomplicate it. I have to ask you, since your AutoStick has the parking lock feature, can you start the car in "Park", or do you still have to shift it into "Neutral" like the AutoSticks without the parking lock feature?
$21,500 is crazy high for a used '74 SB, even an autostick. it would make a great show car, though. replace the rubber on those windshield wipers asap before you scratch the window! beautiful car.
Amazing car condition, shame about the colour. Nice visual tour of your neighborhood, would have been better if the camera was passenger window showing the interior and maybe some engine startup from outside to hear how it sounds. I have a 72 SB 4spd.
Yes. The shift lever has an internal switch. When you push on the shift lever, it has an internal switch which is activated and engages the clutch. DO NOT leave your hand on the shift lever once you select the gear. This will cause the clutch to stay engaged. When working properly it is very easy to drive.
como se ajusta la palanca ya que ni la primera ni la segunda velozidad quieren entrar solo el retroseso y la low cambie los vacios y el vaccum son nuevos y las mangeras tambien
CG, Overall the autostick system is quite simple. If the hydraulics are OK (the car runs and shifts), then what is key is to be sure there are absolutely no vaccum leaks. I always replace all the hoses with fresh ones as even small cracks will cause problems with the autostick. Once you are confident you have no vacuum leaks, the top adjustment screw on the reducing valve will set how smooth the car shifts.
You are not supposed to put an auto stick into neutral every time you come to a stop it has a torque converter you are causing more wear on the transmission then if you just left it in gear it will idle like an automatic it has a torque converter. When you come to a stop you township put it in first gear and let it idle until you are ready to drive. Read the VW manual driving instructions for auto stick.
Actually there's no such thing as factory installed A/C in a Bug. All A/C (and also the majority of the options for that matter) were dealer-installed. However, dealer-installed options would pass concours in a classic car show.
After watching, I just noticed this video is 11 YEARS old!! haha. If he hasn’t sold it by now? I don’t want it! Lol. ** I have to say, this is the absolute worst “video” drive or “video test” drive in the history of selling cars online! 10 MINUTES long, and the ONLY thing that he videoed, was straight out the windshield and zoomed just enough not to get anything of the car in the video!! Not ONE shot of the dash while driving! Not ONE shot to the left, right, or at gear shift!! Not even ONE second of any part of the car while driving it…. Unbelievable!! Additionally, you keep calling it ‘automatic’. Do you mean ‘semiautomatic’? As far as I know VW never put an auto trans in the bugs. I’ve had 5 and used to be a huge fan of them. They did make a ‘Semi-automatic’ however. Which means you still have to shift the car just like you would a standard shift, except that there’s no clutch pedal… And IF that’s what you have and I think it is, dude, you don’t even know how to drive it properly!! I mean damn! First off, if the speed limit is 40, you’re not gonna drive the car in second gear and just leave it in second!! You’re not supposed to drive ANY standard shift that way. Is this the only standard you’ve ever driven? Perhaps that’s the problem. With ANY standard shift vehicle, you want to always shift to the highest gear possible. Especially on flat level ground! Then when you come to a hill you down shift to the appropriate gear. Understand? Just because a 4 speed bug will run 50 mph in 3rd gear, if the speed limit is 50 or even 40, you’re not gonna keep it in third gear. You go up to fourth! Otherwise you burn a ton of gas, you’re running at excess rpm’s so your motor runs hot etc. Who knows… Sorry man but I couldn’t help but to comment! Really though, this is the first time in my entire 60+ years of life, I’ve watched a video test drive of a car and the person filming doesn’t shoot even 1 second of any part of the car! Instead, you talked about the houses in your neighborhood etc.. 🤔🤔🤔🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

Nice Super Beetle!

How have you avoided the obligatory dash crack next to the instrument binnacle near the windshield?
I had a '72 Super Beetle. I disliked post-'72 Supers because of the panoramic windshield.
P.S. Mine was also a semi-auto.
Hey do you have a clear pic of the engine wiring by chance it's help me alot I have a 70 autostick saved from barn after 20 years
I do have archived pics of the engine bay.
@@vincentleon493 that would work
can you make a video showing how the auto stick works ?
How fast does this car go with the autostick when you use either first second and Low Gear?
It's been awhile since I have had the car, but I do remember is would move 5-7mph faster than the standard 4 speed. Thanks for your comment.
Which is the price of this car?
do we have to shift in a autostick cause i bought one and brought it by a tow truck cause i was scared to drive it

Thanks for your comment. I've had many vintage VW Beetles, but only one autostick. Thanks! I learned something new today.
wow. i guess i'm in the wrong state.
Lets hope someone saves it from its prison and it will be out on the open road someday.
I feel sorry it’s an Autostick lol
