I've one question: How did you guys start up this awesome analysis videos? I'm into American and Russian literary themes, books and character arcs and would really appreciate advice and your experience as a starter.
I always felt bad for Janice. So she has an annoying voice? She's an extremely good person who had the misfortune of meeting Chandler when he was too damaged from what happened to him in his youth to commit. It's not like she's Kathy... although she also got dealt a deeply scarred Chandler.
I always hated how badly the Friends treated her... yes she was annoying, but she was sweet, caring and honestly a good person. I hated seeing her excited around them and them laughing at her.
To be fair, they followed Chandler's lead, and accepted her once he did. They're a closed off, codependent group that is tough or impossible to break into. But Janice knew what she was getting into. That's also her own problem, never taking the hint when it comes to Chandler. If people don't like you, you can't force them to.
I think she kind of has negative character progression, she is a bit more of a rounded person in the earlier seasons, in the later ones it's just "oh no it's super annoying woman again".
@@lindthechaoticheretic8708 You're right. That sucks. But they are mean about her even before all that. Am I wrong? Haven't watched the show in years lol.
When my best friend was forcing me to watch the entire series from beginning to end (which I whined about at the time, but am now grateful for, because it's one of my favorite shows) I was really shipping Chandler and Janice in the beginning of season 3. I thought they were fucking adorable. I definitely prefer Chandler and Monica now, they are one of the best examples of a good TV romantic relationship ever, but Janice wasn't bad for him at all.
What you're supposed to understand is that Janice was from the wrong social class. Chandler loved her, but he was ashamed of her. She had a loud laugh, she spoke with a working-class accent, she wore leopard print unironically, and her face was "ethnic". Monica was just as bossy and a lot more crazy -- not to mention a bad reproductive match -- but she was from Chandler's own social class, even if she did have a blue-collar job.
@@AndySaenz924 No. She dated Ross when Chandler is supposed to be in Yemen, and then after a while Ross started to put up all the annoying problema Ross and she piut him In his place. I like her character in friends, she’s friendly and very matter of factly. She has also a good conversation with Rachel When Rachel gabe birth to a daughter, giving her heartfelt advice. Even she dated Ross’ Her advise to Rachel was priceless!
@@abihitchenor5450 he cheated on her too?? Plus he constantly lied to her, ignored her, gave her weird signals, took advantage of her sadness to have sex with her, literally went to Yemen to avoid her.. need I continue?
Jadzebra that’s because she wasn’t self aware enough to see the signs. Once a cheater always a cheater. Also she has way to much baggage. Chandler has enough baggage to deal with.
I've been seeing memes on Instagram that say "Your Chandler is somewhere out there. He's just with his Janice right now." This video made me realize if that's true some Janice out there is gonna be used and seriously hurt for some guy to grow up for the right woman. And that's really sad!
If you look at it from a perspective that life is like a story, yeah you're right. But looking at life as it is, it doesn't make narrative sense and people just do wind up hurt and they learn to grow just like those who hurt them. You know, unless someone's truly a lost cause or lacks empathy completely. Also, let's not forget Janice did cheat on her husband. She's no victim.
I am Janice somehow because I never challenge men, I take them for what they are and when that's not good enough I leave. And have been treated as a backup, though I figured early and left the situation, thankfully. I confirm, it is super sad.
The reason why Chandler was attracted to Janice is because she provided the female affection that he lacked from his *mother* *Toxic* ? Yes. Eventually he actually fell in love with the mother of the group: *Monica* Monica also had a desire to clean/organize everything that’s a mess. Arguably, Chandler was the biggest mess of the group and there’s that!
Great analysis. Do you think the writers purposely wrote the characters to be in love with each other or were just inspired by the characters' own personalities and went with it?
I have no pity to spare for one dimensional characters who are obsessively in love with someone and that is their whole character trait. I know it is a sitcom and he was a funny gag but that is pretty much it for me bucko. I lost all fucks to give when I realised recently that no matter how much Snape loved Lily in Harry Potter, he was still cruel and bullied children. So yeah.
A “soulmate” doesn’t necessarily have to be a romantic partner. A soulmate is just a person that ideally mirrors your values and ideas. The best example of this is Will and Grace. They are perfect together and no romantic love can equal that friendship. Or similarly JD and Turk from Scrubs. I think we can all agree that Carla will never appreciate Turk the way JD does. But the main reason Janice is not Chandler’s soulmate is simple: Chandler treats her horribly. Whether the soulmate is romantic or platonic, there needs to be mutual love and respect. Janice deserves better. And Chandler already has a soulmate, it’s Joey.
Maybe a soulmate is someone who helps or teaches you something invaluable, not just having the same views? I mean, I believe that we each have more than one soulmate, romantic and platonic, and that these include teaching us things even if they don't feel good at the time...
@@elleelle5847 That's a total myth, they were together for less than 5 episodes and there's no evidence of that. There is, in fact, evidence of Chandler doing just that (Worst bad massages) and him stepping up whenever she got too crazy. Monica in season 2 was not a completely fleshed out character too by the way. Richard and Monica as a couple are incredibly overrated considering they had barely 2 or 3 episodes together, and that was the honeymoon phase of it. The children issue is a deal breaker, and they couldn't overcome it. With Chandler, they overcame infertility, long distance, money issue and career changes. These are the real parameters that will tell you if a relationship is rock solid, the rest is just sitcom conventions and exaggeration of traits for comedy's sake. Chandler and Monica are the most solid, happiest relationship of the show by the series finale.
They were separated but legally married so that is why there is disagreement what the cheating was. I think this is why you should not date anyone while you are still legally married even if you are not living together anymore and you think it’s over. It might not be. I don’t think Janice dating Chandler while she was separated but legally married or her kissing (and just kissing) her legal husband are really that bad but it would have been better if she had done neither.
@@Schnukii13 There's a weird disagreement on that, but even if she did, every friend did something bad. Even Pheobe cheated before in the show and it was used for comedy and the friends still treated her the same. Besides Janice voice and laugh, she didn't deserve the treatment she got from the group
you do realize that they needed a plot trick to put her out of the picture withouth damaging "Chandler's tv character". Make her seem like she is the bad guy , not poor Chandler
In Season 3, they have such a loving and steady relationship. Honestly Chandler seemed so happy with her and I hate he went back to hating her immensely in Season 4.
i am such a huuuge fan of all your analyses. always thought janice was just a plot convenience for extra humour but i am in awe at how you guys explore such a deep topic of soul mates and growing in a relationship through her example
I mean, the show is really simple, but it works because its super relatable, each character is a classic archetype. We all know a Chandler, and a Janice.
I always thought Janice was treated really badly throughout the whole series, and, to be honest, she never did anything that really warranted how much everyone else treated her. Yes, she’s annoying and slightly obnoxious, but she deserved way better than Chandler.
She cheated on him with her husband with him, she cheated on him with her husband. While 2 wrongs don’t make a right, she wasn’t as innocent as everyone wants to make out on here.
@@TutorialConspiracy she and her husband were going through some things. He was cheating on her, and they were close to getting a divorce. She decided to give her marriage a second chance, and that is why she ended things with Chandler.
I think the Ross/Rachel comparison just goes to show that Ross and Rachel shouldn’t have ended up together. They brought out the worst in each other and it was Ross idealizing her and not respecting her as a waitress and designer. Joey and the paleontologist lady should have been their endgames because they were their best selves and they were supportive and happy.
Omg you have a point. I was always bothered by the fact that ross and rachel's minds are not on the same frequency. She sees his love for science as dorky, stereotyping him as a boring nerd while he sees her love for fashion and arts as something useless and degrading, stereotyping her as a dumb hot blonde.
Ross and Rachel were terrible. The worst ending in history was the ending of Friends w Ross and Rachel. I mean where did Rachel go professionally after it ended? Ross was BS
Agree about Ross and Rachel not being perfect for each other, but that doesn't necessarily stop people from getting together and/or staying together. They chose each other despite all their incompatibilities, not because of them. This video mentions this too, in passing.
That’s an interesting question because Monica said that she doesn’t believe in soulmates. Then again, what is a soulmate? Is it always romantic? Can you have a platonic soulmate? Someone that you are always drawn to and love so much, but in a platonic way? Wouldn’t that make everyone in the Friends group “soulmates”?
she was in all seasons not because she is his soulmate, but because the audiences loved her and wanted her in the show so they kept calling her. that what she said
two points: 1. I actually always loved Janice despite also finding her voice and laugh annoying so I'm glad you guys gave her a good video. 2. I love Chandler and Monica's relationship more than anyone else so I was ready to fight but I actually find myself agreeing with this video. well done!
youre right on most things but i dont think janice "broke chandler in" for monica. monica did that all by herself. chandler was still very immature and afraid of commitment when monica started dating him. at the end of her relationship janice hadn't fixed him or even begun to. it was all monica. theres that episode with the male nurse that monica was going to date because chandler said that they were "just fooling around". she pushed chandler into realizing he wants something real with her. it was after that episode that chandler stopped acting like a commitment phobic man child. after that he started making big steps with her like asking her if he could move in. everytime chandler pushes her away she calls his bluff and says "well then maybe i should go be with that guy" and he caves realizing he cant lose her because of his commitment issues. it happened a second time with richard. granted chandler was just trying to make her believe he didnt want to be married so that the proposal could be a surprise, but having richard beg monica to take him back, seeing that monica has other viable serious options, always puts things into perspective for chandler and reassures him that monica is who he wants to be with.
I also think that their relationship shows how much influence your friends have on your romantic relationships. His friends found Janice to be annoying and even make fun of her right in front of him this probably causes Chandler to have second thoughts about their relationship
There's an irony on how I see the concept of soulmates. When I spent my youth being single and having one-sided feelings towards various guys, I believed in soulmates-that somewhere out there I'll find Mr. Right. However, after I met my current boyfriend-who I've dated for over 8 years-I actually don't believe in soulmates anymore. It takes a lot of active choosing and compromising to nurture a relationship. Of course, we may have been fated to meet-that I believe in-but to say that we're soulmates is a little farfetched, given the fact that we have to actively make a decision to still love one another.
Alive as Always - I think it differs from person to person (or couple to couple). My other half has been married, had a child and divorced. He did what you did, found a person, dated, married and tried hard to work their love to make it work. Turns out it didn’t work and they separated. Then one day I go for a job interview, I see him and he sees me and we just fell for each other. I didn’t get the job but I found my love. We’ve been together for 7 years and, it sounds cliche, our bond has grown each year because how well we fit with each other and understand each other. Again, love works differently for everyone.
You've been DATING for EIGHT YEARS? And you have to evaluate every day whether you still want to be with this guy? Whew! I agree -- you certainly HAVEN'T found Mr. Right, have you? Or else you'd be Mrs. Right by now. Meanwhile, Mr. Wrong has wasted 8 years of your life.
Tanja Jurgec Nowadays pretty much everything in a relationship that isn’t perfect is called toxic or abusive. It’s annoying as hell. Every relationship is different so if a couple is happy and it works for them, then it’s none of your business whether it falls under your version of “healthy.”
@@tanjajurgec3385 So only healthy people deserve happiness? If they're truly complete, they'd be more like Joey by the end of the series. Maybe the high horse involves determining good & bad based on what one considers as normal.
Well the writers initially intended for them to end up together but decided to have Chandler end up with Monica after seeing Monica & Chandler’s chemistry when Monica was Chandler’s personal trainer
Chandler always considered Janice as a back up plan. Even when he fell in love with her, it's the season he's scared he's going to end up alone. Chandler and Monica chose to be together, and they fit on every level. That's a million times more sustainable and more romantic. Soulmates are a bullshit concept. Life is not signs, it's choices.
Chandler and Monica seemed to just settle for each other and not really love each other to me. I may be biased because I was always annoyed more by Monica more than Janice lol!
@@cheekclappa69 This is absolutely not true. A steady, stable relationship is the opposite of settling down. This is what tv and movies taught you. In real life, people in a dysfunctional rocky relationship are the ones who are settling down because they keep finding excuses to stay together despite making each other miserable. A steady, stable relationship like Monica and Chandler means that, these two people love each other, but more importantly, keep choosing each other, work hard at the relationship, because they value it, that's the opposite of settling down. Action is aiming for more, for the best, passivity is settling down. Plus, Chandler considered always being the luckiest guy on earth to be with her. Ever since they were friends. He said she made him happier than ever before, that he was nothing before her. He never took her for granted, he loved everything about her, even what others consider flaws. To him, she was always that amazing, strong, passionate friend. ("I like maintaining you"), he fully embraced her and celebrated her and never, ever was intimated by her. Monica was a planner, a perfectionist, as such she had all these conceptions about the perfect guy, the perfect relationship, the perfect wedding. However, those were all abstract ideas that shatter when confronted with reality. She didn't settle for Chandler, she discovered that "perfect on paper" doesn't matter. Who you fall in love can't be planned. You can get perfect, you can reach your goals in life by being imperfect, by accepting life's imperfections: she always wanted to be a mother, but life being the unfair random thing it is, she couldn't conceive. Yet, adoption made her happy. Life's best things can still come in imperfect packages. I'm saying this, because for someone like Monica to be with a guy like Chandler, who had his own issues and misfortunes with life and is not a perfect guy, it means her love for him surpasses ideals and fantasies. "I don't care if he's the most perfect guy in the world, he's not *you*" That means, with Chandler she's not falling in love with the idea of a guy, of a dream life, she's falling for him completely, for who he is. She doesn't try to change him or pressure into taking the next step in the relationship. In fact, she pretty much lets him in charge of the big decisions, because she knows him so well, and loves him so much she's willing to wait, to be patient with him. And for the first time in her life, she doesn't have to be perfect too. She doesn't have to fight to get his love like she does with her parents, she doesn't have to hide who she is like she did with Richard because it might make him run away. Chandler completely gets her, and knows her better than anybody. He knows her insecurities because he had the same ones (dying alone, being second choice, not beautiful/attractive enough), he understands being the underdog, he understands being neglected, he understands why she strives for perfection. He makes her understand than she is enough. Who she is perfectly fine, and what if she has flaws, what if she uses cleaning as a defense mechanism? Everybody has a defense mechanism for past trauma. And what if she works hard for everyone and everything? These are not flaws, in fact they can be productive qualities, for work and for interpersonal relationships. She is perfect to him, with all her flaws. That's not something she ever had, she's so used to having to work absurdly hard for anything in her life. When you have a person supporting you, especially if you're as driven as she is, it is freeing to have that one person providing unconditional love. So it doesn't matter that she doesn't have a perfect wedding and a perfect wedding dress, that they couldn't have children naturally, they would find a way and they had each other, and loved each other. This is actually more romantic in reality than grand, unrealistic ideas about soulmates, where you just accept "fate" and don't be proactive about what you want and who you want.
No. There isn't a healthier and more friendship-based relationship than Chandler and Monica's. They are excellent role models for anyone who wants to know what a good relationship is like.
Retseh Steenkamp Chandler and Monica are always my go-to for how a TV romance should be written. There’s not much will-they or won’t they, no toxic partners, or lack of chemistry. They’re pretty great.
@@stonebud Over 7 billion lives living now and the countless previous lives, you cant speak for everyone. Some may have had lives that worked in a similar pattern. Edit: then theres those who have been influenced since childhood by these 'role models' they watched for so long.
Sara Samaletdin They didn't "balance each other out" he treated her like shit and she was a doormat, willing to take him back time after time, even when he left her for other women. He always had an excuse to leave her. It was a toxic relationship. In the second movie, they were both miserable, and kind of stuck in it because they were married. Carrie and BIg were never a love story. She was shallow, selfish and needy, and he was a dick. They were a disaster.
Sara Samaletdin the actual writer (who also represented carrie) said herself carrie and big should have never ended together but because of the audience the tv show made them end up together
MsMilano Exactly. And Carrie was like a child trying hard to be validated by a parent that kept abandoning her. She never learned to appreciate her self-worth. Her self-worth was tied up in fashion and being liked by others. When she was with the Russian, she threw a tantrum. Like she wanted to be defined by him instead of by herself. She had that opportunity with the potential French fan club but she chose him instead of doing something for her fans which was technically for herself. Had a tantrum like she didn’t make a mistake, but instead blame the Russian for being misleading.
Yay...you're doing _Friends_ side characters. Awesome! Janice IS a bad habit for Chandler. He takes her for granted, and dismisses her too easily when she starts to annoy him. That, to me, does not make for a soul mate. So I disagree when you say that Janice was the one that "made Chandler grow up". I think Monica was that person for Chandler...but, also, Chandler was that person for Monica. Chandler & Monica understood each other better than any of the other friends did - way back from the beginning. They accepted each others quirks, and became better friends to each other because of it. They talked, laughed & comforted each other during the whole course of the series. They were meant for each other, they just didn't know they were meant for each other. Anyway, I appreciate your analysis, always. Great insight to Janice, whom I didn't realized I missed, until the last season. 😊❤️
I can't watch Chandler's proposal to Monica and not think that they're right for each other. "Chandler, in all my life I never thought I would be so lucky as to fall in love with my best...my best...There's a reason why girls don't do this." "Okay okay okay. I'll do it...I thought...Wait, I can do this. I thought that it mattered what I said or where I said it. Then I realized, the only thing that matters is that you...you make me happier than I ever thought I could be. And if you let me I will spend the rest of my life trying to make you feel the same way."
I agree. I mean, they only got together because they got drunk at a wedding. Chandler was certainly never her best friend. Usually when people who have known each other a long time finally fall in love, it's because something has happened to change one of them, or something happens to make them see each other in a new light. Apparently in sit-com land, that something is alcohol.
@@artemisstrong5113 Yes and no. Yes, it was alcohol that brought them together "for a one-time thing." But it obviously didn't end up staying that way, as the sex allowed them to lower their barriers enough to see beyond the walls they usually have up (Chandler's sarcasm, Monica's Type A personality.) They must have had a Zack and Miri connection. Zack and Miri never thought of each other as anything more than friends/room mates, but then they had sex one time and everything between them changed. Intimacy and sex do not always go hand-in-hand, but when it does, things reach a whole 'nother level. Chandler and Monica lingering in bed afterwards, talking, shows they've quickly established a comfortable intimacy. They could have rushed to get dressed and away from eachother, agreeing it never should have happened, as friends regretting the decision might do. Instead, they agreed there was nothing to regret "Eh, we were never that close."
The idea of soulmates is terrible. Because it means that you don’t have the heart and the mind control of your love-life. Therefore, your choices if motivated by the idea of soulmates and fate, are not pure to what you want your own will. However if it what makes you happy and you have peace with the plan... by all means sure. It’s just that both parties have to have to same belief.
I believe soulmates aren’t just like a partner it could be your mom your best friend, sister, brother, grandparent. I think we all meet our soulmates at some point in our lives but in a different form
PumpkinEskobarr - maybe it’s worth seeing it at a different angle; instead of searching for your soulmate, which is what it sounds like you’re saying, how about going on ones’ day to day life and they may appear. I agree searching for someone to love you and vice versa is a waste of energy and time. People have their whole lives to live and need to put themselves first before searching for the right person. I believe let love come naturally. Sometimes it will fall in your lap and sometimes you have to work hard for it. Heck, sometimes it falls in your lap and you still have to work hard for it. It’s different for everyone. But for me the definition of soulmate isn’t looking for someone to love me, it’s finding it unexpectedly whilst living the life you love.
Every single one of your video essays are so well thought out. Maybe not as stylish and experimental as, let's say the Nerdwriter, but much more thought provoking.
Like Monica said, soulmates do not exist, you meet someone, fall in love and build work on a relationship, sometimes really hard... Monica and Chandler once they started dating, started to grow up, even if for comedic purposes the writers would have them both revert to some old weird habits, you can see the couple maturing which allowed the writers to make them go through adults issue conflicting professional priorities, she has to stay in NYC, he has to commute between and NYC and Tulsa, he quits his job to find a new career while she becomes the income earner of the couple for a period, and then there is the matter of pregnancy and adoption which lead them to decide that life in the suburbs is what they want for their children... I don't know who is a soulmate to whom, but Chandler and Monica is the couple that latest the longest on the show without a break period, despite going through some challenges that could break a couple and went on to build a great life for themselves...
So glad this video exists because Janice is such a fun person, she was always in a good mood, stood up for herself and was not afraid to speak her mind, she was self confident. She's my favorite secondary caracter and deserved so much better! I mean, I'm all for Mondler, love the couple so much, but Janice did deserve better
Chandler and Monica are meant to be. Not in a destiny, fate bullshit way. But in a trust, love, sexual and emotional connection and wanting the same things out of life. Which wasn't the case with Richard and would always be a big problem.
Richard was a Snooze fest😴, handsome, successful older man. Thats his whole character. 0 room for development. If Anything its Weird to think how much he wanted such a younger woman, who he saw grow up.
@@danielvargas6130 yea I always found that creepy. Remember when Rachel said she'd been kissed by him, on the forehead, after falling off her bike. It just creeped me out that he had sex with a woman he saw go from a little girl to adulthood as an adult. Just weird.
No, Monica is. Part of me liked them sometimes, but I still prefer him and Monica. Wow! This video really gave Janice's perspective perfectly. Great analysis!
Janice didn't "break Chandler in." He was just as much of an immature commitment phobe when he and Monica got together. We saw him freak out multiple times during their relationship. Monica was the one that walked him through that. Come on now.
I think Richard and Monica's romance is also an example of 'soulmate' love. They have the coincidental meetings and the obsessive on again off again relationship. They were also affected by timing - the age gap meant Richard was too old to want more children. Of course, barely anyone wants them together and Monica ends up choosing Chandler instead, supporting the idea that the idea that being with someone you worked on a relationship with is better than a predestined love.
I think it’s great that you mentioned 30 Rock and Liz and Wesley’s relationship. I always thought it was a brilliant take on the “destined to be together” troupe, because things happen in our lives that do not necessarily mean anything until we assign meaning to them. It was clear that Liz and Wesley were not meant to be together and that it was pure chance that they continued to run into each other. it did not mean anything until Wesley started to claim that it did! Similarly to Janice and Chandler, it only meant something to Janice because she chose to look at it in a certain way, as fate instead of chance. I think both relationships show that we get to fully decide how we want to react to certain events and people who come into our lives, and that that will shape our narrative. P.s. Please do more analysts of 30 Rock! It is a brilliant show that I would love to see more breakdowns of. :)
Don't care what people say..... have a MAJOR CRUSH on Janice. So beautiful & sexy. Her personality was genuine. She should of had her own spin off. Maggie Wheeler is a knockout !! ♥️♥️♥️
wow that was beautiful... SO MUCH DEPTH AND INSIGHT YOU GUYS HAVE. I never gave Janice a second thought besides comedy relief.. but wow, you guys. I bow.
That was a refreshing take on her character, she's not as one dimensional as one might think and I feel like I can relate to her a lot more now after watching this.
Great vid, I love the full exploration of the characters and themes you all do. So thorough and without filler content other channels have. Its almost clinical, but not lacking personality in any way, yall are great.
Oh My God!! I am Janice in my relationships!! I feel so sad right now, will I ever get the chance to be the Monica and “enjoy being with a grown up”? Like ever?
Glad Janice found peace and happiness in the end, and grew along with the friends group. Happy also that the karmic/cosmic bond between Janice and the friends group endures. Enjoy your new life Janice. You deserve fulfillment, and the friends will always be there for you.
Not being able to quit being in a relationship with someone who just doesn't work isn't love. It's codependency. Not everything happens for a reason. Sometimes things just happen. If you don't freely choose someone, it isn't love. How do we know that Janice isn't stalking Chandler and pretending to be surprised to see him?
i think janice was less of a soulmate, and more a twin flame. they keep getting thrown into the other’s life in order to show the other something. they learn from each other in some way or another (especially chandler.)
I really loved this. It gave a cool perspective on the Chandler and Janice story line. I can say with all certainty whenever her character appeared I knew I was in for a good laugh! 😊 They brought her in during the most unexpected times but made for great material. Thanks for making this video it was great! 😊 😀 😁
The problem with the show was that they assume our friends *MUST* be friends with our significant others. Chandler was forced to choose a side, and while his choice was one I disagreed with, it was right for him. When a friend tells you to stab someone who loves you in the back, and you do it, you're in proper company (though not good company). Edit: Better to have your *One* and no friends then to just be friends with all the people in the world.
but on the other hand, if your friends are not friends with your significant other, you have either made a bad choice in friends or a bad choice in significant others.
You don't necessarily have to enjoy spending time with the person that your friend is dating. Just respect them and if they mistreat your friend try to encourage your friend to get out of an unhealthy relationship so that your friend doesn't get hurt anymore. If you're with a person who discourages you from spending time with your friends and family, then that's a red flag unless their friends and family mistreat you. Not that they should boss you around, but assure you that you shouldn't be treated like that.

She was FRIENDS answer to Fran Drescher's character in The Nanny

Jadzebra that’s because she wasn’t self aware enough to see the signs. Once a cheater always a cheater. Also she has way to much baggage. Chandler has enough baggage to deal with.
YES MIGUEL, YES!
I hate that they made her a punchline, just because of her laugh/mannerisms. She was sweet and good to Chandler and she deserved better.

I've been seeing memes on Instagram that say "Your Chandler is somewhere out there. He's just with his Janice right now."
This video made me realize if that's true some Janice out there is gonna be used and seriously hurt for some guy to grow up for the right woman. And that's really sad!
Janice kept seeking him out even when he tried to get away from her, or worse, was taken and with someone else. She was part of the problem.
@@sabrinafrni64 Yes it's true but he never quiet made it clear he wanted to get away from her. He just lied to her.
Ikr, since she was annoying, I never really considered her feelings. I actually feel bad for her now
The reason why Chandler was attracted to Janice is because she provided the female affection that he lacked from his *mother*
*Toxic* ? Yes.
Eventually he actually fell in love with the mother of the group: *Monica*
Monica also had a desire to clean/organize everything that’s a mess. Arguably, Chandler was the biggest mess of the group and there’s that!

LMAO not very accurate, but I'd love to see that as a video
The last sentence made me laugh
Maybe a soulmate is someone who helps or teaches you something invaluable, not just having the same views? I mean, I believe that we each have more than one soulmate, romantic and platonic, and that these include teaching us things even if they don't feel good at the time...
@@kerrie6084 Yes, that is also what I believe.
Ppl tend to overlook how annoying, loud and obnoxious Monica is. Chandler has a thing for loud girls. Other than Janice’s laugh, I liked her the best.
PumpkinEskobarr You’re right, Joanna and the girl with the prosthetic leg were loud too.
Chandler never found Monica annoying. He LOVED her quirks.
Monica was better off with Richard. He calmed her down a lot.
Woah true
I love Janice and hate how the friends treat her. She is amazing and deserves better
Ok at the beginning but well she did cheat on Chandler with her (ex)husband at some point...
@@Schnukii13 He wasn't her ex husband, he was still her husband. And she cheated on him with Chandler.
Janice looks like Amy Winehouse.

i am such a huuuge fan of all your analyses. always thought janice was just a plot convenience for extra humour but i am in awe at how you guys explore such a deep topic of soul mates and growing in a relationship through her example
I mean, the show is really simple, but it works because its super relatable, each character is a classic archetype. We all know a Chandler, and a Janice.
I also think that Janice was an addition for extra humor
"You might say Chandler and Janice are a dark mirror of the Ross and Rachel story 😭😭
Idk if they are soulmates, but DEFINITELY Janice deserved a better treatment.

@Laxman Dhotre exactly!!! Like Chandler treated her sooooo well! He treated her like ceap
she cheated on him. why does everyone ignore that?
I think the Ross/Rachel comparison just goes to show that Ross and Rachel shouldn’t have ended up together. They brought out the worst in each other and it was Ross idealizing her and not respecting her as a waitress and designer. Joey and the paleontologist lady should have been their endgames because they were their best selves and they were supportive and happy.
So true. I never like the Ross Rachel.
I fully agree, Ross and Rachel are just not a good couple
GeminiSpiritNB Well, there you go.

Unpopular opinion, she's my 2nd favorite character after Phoebe

Alive as Always I love your comment!

The "you complete me" thing is bad news. Dependent relationship.
Two complete people who add to each other's lives, that's the good one
Tanja Jurgec Nowadays pretty much everything in a relationship that isn’t perfect is called toxic or abusive. It’s annoying as hell. Every relationship is different so if a couple is happy and it works for them, then it’s none of your business whether it falls under your version of “healthy.”
@@tanjajurgec3385 So only healthy people deserve happiness? If they're truly complete, they'd be more like Joey by the end of the series. Maybe the high horse involves determining good & bad based on what one considers as normal.
It is good news compared to being half a person. Not everyone is privileged with a complete life.
I loved Janice. She is beautiful, funny, always kind and patient, and I love her laugh.
"I don't care if he's the most perfect guy in the world, he's not *you*"
That means, with Chandler she's not falling in love with the idea of a guy, of a dream life, she's falling for him completely, for who he is.
@@sabrinafrni64 again, i never liked Monica. So i'm totally biased lol!
No. There isn't a healthier and more friendship-based relationship than Chandler and Monica's. They are excellent role models for anyone who wants to know what a good relationship is like.

They were a disaster.
Sara Samaletdin the actual writer (who also represented carrie) said herself carrie and big should have never ended together but because of the audience the tv show made them end up together
MsMilano
Exactly.
They took each other off the market so no one else would suffer, that's the only positive thing I got from that.
I love Friends but have never thought about Janice and Chandler's relationship from this perspective. What a great video.
"Chandler, in all my life I never thought I would be so lucky as to fall in love with my best...my best...There's a reason why girls don't do this."
"Okay okay okay.
Woah never looked deeper into it damn Screen Prism nailed it again.
Honestly, I liked Janice. I saw more of her own personality when she started dating chandler, I was sad when she cheated and they had to break up.
I always thought that Richard and Monica were soulmates tbh but they were at different points in their life :((
Chandler and Monica are meant to be. Not in a destiny, fate bullshit way. But in a trust, love, sexual and emotional connection and wanting the same things out of life. Which wasn't the case with Richard and would always be a big problem.

Janice has one of the most beautiful smiles i've ever seen
GOD Screenprism, you make watching FRIENDS just that much more meaningful.
honestly if chandler and monica never got together i would want chandler to marry janice and monica to marry richard
Me too
I always thought she was pretty damn cute.
Janice didn't "break Chandler in." He was just as much of an immature commitment phobe when he and Monica got together. We saw him freak out multiple times during their relationship. Monica was the one that walked him through that. Come on now.
I still think a Janice and Joey hookup would have been epic
Our obsession with finding our “soulmates” is why some people stay in relationships that are bad for one or both of the people!
Poor Janice... she was a good person. Janice and Tag (a little bit) were the only exes that I felt bad that things didn't work out
.
Janice was always my favourite side character, and now I appreciate her even more! Thanks!
THIS IS SO BRILLIANT, I loved the way the relationships are deconstructed in this video.
Everytime she starts laughing I just wanna...
....
..
.
Get there faster!!
"Rip my arm off so I have something to throw at her!"
I'm so glad you included that clip of Before Sunset, it's one of my favourite movies
OMG I WAS ASKING MY RESIDENT FRIENDS EXPERT FRIEND ABOUT THIS JUST 2 DAYS AGO
Great vid, I love the full exploration of the characters and themes you all do. So thorough and without filler content other channels have. Its almost clinical, but not lacking personality in any way, yall are great.
You really make me feel better about liking this show.
Poor Janice. I really appreciate the analysis!! Makes me see the relationship in a new light
Oh My God!! I am Janice in my relationships!! I feel so sad right now, will I ever get the chance to be the Monica and “enjoy being with a grown up”? Like ever?
“Maaaan, can’t anything go right with my life?”
This thing always make me a little sad. Janice will always think Chandler never stopped loving her.
I’m actually so sick of the paid spiel about how good Skillshare is
More than a soul mate, a twin flame. Someone you can't avoid, makes you grow and you usually never end up with
9:16 It's so sad that someone's purpose can be to only break someone in only to watch them go on with someone else. What a sad sad thought.
She reminds me of Fran from the nanny and I loved her😂😂
Glad Janice found peace and happiness in the end, and grew along with the friends group. Happy also that the karmic/cosmic bond between Janice and the friends group endures.
Enjoy your new life Janice. You deserve fulfillment, and the friends will always be there for you.
you are so smart! I don't really believe they intentionally put all that in, so awesome how you see those connections
14 years pass and we still not over FRIENDS!!!
OMAYGAAAAD
Janice's video is the longest lol
I actually think Janice is pretty and charming :)
the Janice interjections between the narration is brilliant!
i think janice was less of a soulmate, and more a twin flame. they keep getting thrown into the other’s life in order to show the other something. they learn from each other in some way or another (especially chandler.)
Best "Friends" related video I've ever seen!
I hated when they broke them up. I grew to love them together. Sure, chandler and Monica were great but feel like we missed out on some gold here.
This is favourite friends analysis video. I never thought this way, yet they completely justified it.
I really wish that Janice and Sid got the house in season 10 and they made a sequel series about Monica and Chandler being neighbors with Janice 😂😂😂
Omg I love how Monica and Chandler end together
I always loved her the most. This was great. Thankyou
I loved her positive cheerfully carácter. She was happy and bright and at the same time they shows their dark side with out shame.
Great analysis . I loved it 😅😅😅
I really loved this.
What do you mean?
but on the other hand, if your friends are not friends with your significant other, you have either made a bad choice in friends or a bad choice in significant others.
