Not to be rude but what out of this entire album appears to you. This is like the weirdest shit I’ve every heard
I've lost track of them the past few years, but they toured like crazy for years and years. They used to come through my hometown Ottawa (Canada) every year, when most American bands never come.
Guess the same way you go about your 9-5, when they’re not recording they’re probably touring and when they’re not touring, they’re recording.

going into this album i had the wrong intentions. i was searching for what i considered "music" which like 3 songs in i was reminded can often be (blindly) limited to a much more narrow conception. after sort of realizing how much i was enjoying just sitting here with my headphones on while these tracks do their thing, i genuinely feel inspired in my own life at how much interest lies beneath the obvious, limited concept that we make of things for simplicity's sake. i am by no means saying you have to like this music or anything but that as soon as i allowed myself a larger capacity, i actually felt just this fulfillment in the enjoyment and inspiration this shit gives me
Aspen Lawler literally couldn’t of said it any better with this kinda music. Im a musician myself and I’m finding myself making more and more electronic inspired tracks like this that’s more about vibe as opposed to constant rhythms. It’s pretty liberating as a musician even I never release the music. I recommend any with a synth or a modular key board do the same.
once I realised that pretty much all sounds are made out of the same sine waves that make the music we hear, it really opened me up to the concept of music as a headspace, open to emotional interpretation, rather than a quantifiably enjoyable thing. It sounds really stuffy and metaphysical, but it was so invigorating. and similarly to Panamera, it really informed my own music.

I see a pattern forming. After Always came Angel Guts, after Forget comes this album. Their poppiest albums are followed by their most abrasive. And we all love them for it.

When Xiu Xiu still had Jamie's blog up he'd occasionally talk about being a huge perv but I never really thought that it played a deliberate influence in their aesthetic. But like, the whole design language of this video just screams weird fetish porn. I hope somebody knows what I'm talking about. Just the whole surreal, dreamlike atmosphere

I absolutely get what you mean, a definite theme of pain in places, the entire thing feels like an initiation on an an astral plane with several emotions being worked through. Personally I feel that Xiu Xiu excels primarily in the field of erratic, dissociated pop music, but this has its place too, I suppose. Curious to see how the rest of the album will sound.

I came here reading about Peter Sotos. Apparently this band says he's an influence - I understand why.
Glad people are liking this its a bit too experimental for me though. Really like always, forget and the twin peaks album because the songs are more conventional I guess. Very cool band anyway!

its indeed pretty experimental even for XIUXIU
Im a fan of their very early work as well but Forget was my favorite just because it was nice to see them in a capacity that a whole album listen wasn't challenging. I love their aesthetic and having something I could bob my head to was a nice anchoring change of pace. I'm glad they give fans a bit of both worlds
My favorite part of listening to Xiu Xiu is they always take me out of my comfort zone, and that’s what true art is supposed to do
